The Murdaugh family was one of South Carolina's most powerful legal families. Three generations of Murdaughs held the position of solicitor in the lowcountry for almost one hundred years. In February of 2019 a boat crash killed 19 year old Mallory Beach. Paul Murdaugh, the son of prominent SC attorney, Alex Murdaugh, was charged with three felony counts of boating under the influence, including causing the death of Mallory Beach. June 7, 2021 Alex Murdaugh found his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, brutally murdered, shot to death on their property known as Moselle. On March 2, 2023 Alex was convicted of murdering Maggie and Paul. Between the murders and the convictions many other crimes came to light. No one could have expected the twists and turns the story has taken and it is not finished.     South Carolina Death Row Inmate Wants To Be Executed

    Jimmy Robertson has been sitting on death row in South Carolina since 1999. He was convicted of murdering his parents in Rock Hill, SC. For years Robertson has appealed and fought execution, recently Robertson has told the court he is ready to face death. There are legal complications that come with an inmates decision to be executed. Those will be discussed in this episode. Plus, you will hear the closing arguments from the trial in 1999. In November of 1997, two days before Thanksgiving, Earl and Terry Robertson were brutally murdered by their son, Jimmy Robertson. The story captivated the nation. The story of a well off couple being murdered by their math genius son caught the eye of the country. The trial was covered gavel to gavel on CourtTV.     Alex Murdaugh Fights Back: Refuting Evidence And Alleging Tampering

    Alex Murdaugh’s defense team has filed a 79-page response challenging prosecutors’ efforts to block his request for a new murder trial. His lawyers argue that the state’s opposition is flawed and maintain that Murdaugh was denied a fair trial due to alleged jury tampering by Colleton County Clerk Becky Hill. Although Retired Chief Justice Jean Toal denied a retrial—despite finding Hill not credible—Murdaugh’s attorneys insist that key evidence was ignored, forensic findings were misrepresented, and irrelevant financial evidence was used to distract from the lack of proof tying Murdaugh to the murders of his wife and son. In this episode we discuss the defense team's strategy and the possibility of Murdaugh getting a new trial with attorney Matt Siembieda.     Nancy Mace Update: An Arrest Made And A Case Dismissed

    In February, South Carolina US House of Representative, Nancy Mace gave a "scorched earth" speech on the house floor. In the speech she accused several men of serious crimes, including rape, physical abuse and sex trafficking. None of the men Mace accused have been charged with any of the crimes she accused them of and all have denied her allegations. In this episode aan important ruling by the judge and an arrest has been made. Four previous Impact episodes have been about her February speech. In the August 7 episode, a Jane Doe lawsuit has been filed and a you will hear what was said in a deposition given by a former Mace colleague.     Attorney Says "The Integrity of The System Is At Stake" On Alex Murdaugh Appeal

    Attorney Albert Wunsch was a prosecutor and is a defense attorney. He has strong opinions on the State's response to Alex Murdaugh's appeal. Wunsch co-hosts the Tangent true crime podcast with V innie Politan. The State filed their response to Alex Murdaugh's appeal of his double murder of conviction of his wife and son. In their 182 page brief they laid out their case that the evidence pointing to Murdaugh's guilt was so overwhelming, that Clerk of Court, Becky Hill's "fleeting and foolish" comments would have had no effect on the verdict. The State made their case for why all the other reasons Murdaugh's defense team hoped would overturn the conviction should be ignored by the Sc State Supreme Court.
