    Anxious attachment fires fast. Your body senses threat, a protector part takes the wheel, and you reach for quick relief that repeats the negative cycle. The Wise Pause is the first step to rewiring. It interrupts impulsive moves, gives your nervous system time to settle, and brings your wise Self back online so you can choose connection that lasts. The simple roadmap is PAUSE → REGULATION → CLARITY → CONNECTION.  Try it: Name it: “Something in me is activated. My protector wants to act.”Anchor your body: give yourself physical support - hand on heart or hold your own hand.Step away if possible.Breathe: in for 4, out for 6, three times.Speak to the part: “Thank you for trying to help. I am safe. I can handle this.”From there, identify the need, ask cleanly, or wait until you are truly available for connection. Over time the protector relaxes because it trusts you to lead.     A Couples Therapist Overcomes Her Own Anxious Attachment

    The story I used to hide as a couples therapist: while I spent years helping couples repair - my own marriage ended. Anxious attachment does not change with just  knowledge. I could not shift with insight alone - not even couples therapy did it for me. I knew something was missing because I saw the same wall in about 20% percent of my clients who pursued hard but stayed stuck. After my divorce I sought different support, and started to figure out the missing links: I learned to calm my body, take ownership, and practice small secure reps that changed everything. This episode traces that rewiring and the difference between protest and true vulnerability. It is also the origin story of the Healing Anxious Attachment program, a shame free, psychoeducational bridge that helps anxious partners make EFT gains stick at home. Calm first. Clarity next.
