Most Companies Go Global. Very Few Are Built For It. | Talia Baruch | GlobalSaké & LocLearn | LFC Ep. 210

Talia Baruch is back on the Localization Fireside Chat for Episode 210, and this one covers serious ground.   First, a firsthand recap of GlobalSaké 2026, the sold-out Global-First AI Roundtable held at Adobe HQ in San Francisco on April 30, 2026. Talia shares what made the event unique, why attendees refused to leave, what came out of the five expert-led roundtable tracks, and why the content could have filled a two-day conference.   Then we shift to LocLearn and Talia's newest course: AI-Powered Geo-Culturalization of Visual Assets, taught by localization consultant and AI trainer Dorota Pawlak. This is not a "how to generate pretty images" class. It is a practical, applied training on creating and adapting images and videos that actually resonate with local audiences, using AI as a precision tool rather than a shortcut.   Topics covered in this episode:   - What happened at GlobalSaké 2026 and why it sold out a week early - Adobe HQ as venue and five years in the making - The Adobe Japan case study and why cherry blossom templates were the wrong move - What product geo-fit really means versus product global readiness - LinkedIn's China launch strategy and why they built an off-stack mobile app - Understanding user intent across markets and demographics - Why building for adaptability beats building for a fixed solution - Gaming industry and geo-cultural pitfalls from Track 5 - What the LocLearn visual geo-culturalization course actually teaches - Tools covered: Midjourney, Nano Banana, Genspark, Leonardo AI, Ideogram, HeyGen, ElevenLabs, Synthesia - Video localization: when to use subtitles vs. voice vs. visual changes - Why AI cannot yet do geocultural nuance without human judgment - LocWalks global expansion and the origin story - What every product leader must understand before hitting launch   🎓 LOCLEARN COURSE: AI-Powered Geo-Culturalization of Visual Assets Starts May 28, 2026 | 3 live Zoom sessions on Thursdays | 9:00–11:00 AM Pacific | $500   Use code VisualTeam20 at registration for 20% off — valid for groups of 3 or more. Mark's story begins at age 11 when he lost his father suddenly with no will, no life insurance, and no financial plan in place. That experience became the engine of his entire career. He Healed Bipolar 1 and PTSD Without Medication. Then Built an Emotional Operating System for Leaders | Thayne Martin

In this episode of the Localization Fireside Chat, Robin Ayoub sits down with Thayne Martin, Founder and CEO of itspurelove.com and creator of ELAH eqOS, the Emotional Operating System for Optimal Human Performance. Thayne spent over three decades as a top-performing sales executive across automotive, SaaS, finance, banking, and logistics. He earned President's Club six times and consistently ranked in the top 10% nationally, all while silently managing DID, complex PTSD, bipolar 1, and ADHD resulting from childhood abuse by a religious cult. After a near-death drowning accident that put him in a coma, Thayne walked away from corporate America, invested $250,000 and two and a half years, and built a science-backed system to rewire emotional behavior at the neurological level. Key topics covered in this conversation: Why 95% of thoughts are subconscious and how self-limiting beliefs formed in childhood show up in the boardroom decades later. The difference between training and installing behavior, and why 90% of culture change programs fail when the consultant leaves. The 0.25-second window between an amygdala trigger and a destructive behavioral response, and how to intercept it. How gratitude is not a soft skill but a neuroscientific tool that quiets the amygdala and strengthens the prefrontal cortex. The accidental discovery of the gratitude cocktail through a stranger at a fast food counter and the vagus nerve activation that followed. Thayne's partnership with Workplace.io, which uses NLP to monitor 1,200 signal points across communication channels and deliver a real-time burnout score, executive decision-making score, and psychological safety risk score. The 101-experience deck of cards that employees complete over time to build awareness, emotional regulation, and human connection. What burnout actually looks like at the frontline versus the C-suite, and why healthcare has the worst mental health rates of any industry. How leaders can use gratitude to de-escalate an angry employee in real time by intercepting the amygdala before it executes the wrong behavioral script. Thayne closes with a challenge to every leader: lean into empathy, listen to your people, and remember that the employees showing up to work every day are also parents, grandchildren, and people carrying things you cannot see. The Psychology of Freelance Burnout — What Nobody Warned You About | Meytal Raizes

Meytal Raizes is an occupational psychologist with a background in neuropsychology and over a decade in psychological assessment. After eight years as a freelancer — four fully remote — she burned out. Instead of quietly recovering, she asked the question the psychology field had largely ignored: what does burnout look like when you work alone? In this episode, Meytal and Robin explore the structural gap between employee and freelancer burnout, the role of shame in keeping it hidden, and why classic recovery advice — take time off, set better boundaries, work less — fails freelancers completely. Meytal introduces her five freelance burnout conditions framework, her ocean metaphor for freelance life, and describes what it actually felt like to spiral — including the park moment when her daughter noticed she had slowed down. The conversation also covers the psychological impact of AI on language professionals, how identity disruption compounds burnout risk, and what a practical first step toward recovery actually looks like. When AI Gets Culture Wrong | Melissa McMahon | Acclaro

What happens when AI generates content across dozens of markets and cultural intelligence is missing from the pipeline? In this episode, Robin sits down with Melissa McMahon, a localization veteran with 20+ years of experience, to unpack the concept of Cultural Intelligence and why it is becoming a strategic necessity for global marketing teams. Melissa shares her journey from financial translator to building a 40-person multilingual team at SDL across 55 source languages, and what she has learned about the gap between translation and true cultural resonance. The conversation covers how AI amplifies cultural missteps at scale, where human oversight must sit in an AI-powered workflow, and how teams can start embedding cultural awareness into their content systems today. He Built a $1B Unicorn. Three Times. | Sreedhar Peddineni

What does it take to define an entirely new software category, not once, not twice, but three times? Sreedhar Peddineni co-founded Host Analytics (now Planful) and helped CFOs escape Excel hell, co-founded Gainsight and coined the term "Customer Success Manager" turning support from a cost center into a revenue engine and building a $1.1B unicorn, and now in 2026 he is building GTM Buddy to fix what he sees as a broken sales enablement industry. Robin and Sreedhar cover systems thinking as a founder superpower, the economics of net dollar retention, why companies keep cutting the wrong functions when times get hard, how AI is reshaping the revenue team, and the one piece of advice Sreedhar would give his younger self across all three chapters of his career. Joining them is Mugais Jahangir, CRO of LIC and Head of Sales at memoQ, the Hungarian language technology leader whose platform powers the LIC product stack. Together they cover: how the localization industry has transformed since the early days when translation was not even a recognized business term, the strategic thinking behind building a joint venture rather than an organic startup, what the "bring your own LLM" design philosophy means for enterprise clients who cannot afford data exposure, the launch of Fluent as LIC's first product, Canada's window to lead the world in sovereign AI, and an open invitation to the upcoming LIC event at the Economic Club of Canada.
