What Matters To You? with Julia Hotz

Prescription drugs have long been relied on in all areas of healthcare, and while modern medicine can have incredible benefits, we also need to start looking at the bigger picture when it comes to our physical and mental health.  In this week’s episode Niall sits down with journalist and author Julia Hotz to explore a growing movement in healthcare: social prescribing. Julia’s book, The Connection Cure, delves into the science, into the science and stories behind this practice, where doctors prescribe activities like art classes, community groups, and outdoor exercise to improve physical and mental well-being. Together, they discuss how our healthcare systems reached a crisis point and what changes could help us heal in a more holistic way. Julia also shares inspiring global examples of social prescribing in action and offers insights on how we can incorporate this approach into our own lives—starting with a simple question: What truly matters to you? Power to the People with Declan Power

We, like many of you, have been deeply affected by the atrocities playing out everyday in the Middle East. It can feel overwhelming—too complex, too distant, too painful to fully grasp. In this week’s episode Niall is joined by Declan Power, an independent security and defence analyst, former career soldier, UN peacekeeper and author of ‘Siege of Jadotville’. Having spent a large portion of his career in the Middle East and as a renowned expert in international security, negotiations, crisis planning and intelligence, Declan brings a deep and informed perspective on the history of the region. He shares the realities of life on the ground, the positive impact of Irish peacekeeping forces, and the dangers of apathy in a world flooded with information. Niall and Declan discuss the importance of seeing past the politics to have compassion for the people who are suffering—and recognizing our responsibility to keep telling their stories.  For more mindfulness content check out Niall’s Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/niallbreslin Follow Niall on IG @bressie, TikTok @niallbreslin, FB @whereismymindpodcast and Twitter @nbrez and visit his website: www.niallbreslin.com. (Hu)Man Up with Logan Cohen

If you’ve been here a while you’ll know masculinity is something we find both fascinating and necessary to talk about, and more so as the worst kind of men are finding power in society.  In this week’s episode, Niall is joined by Logan Cohen, a therapist, clinical supervisor and author of ‘How to (Hu)Man Up in Modern Society’. Logan believes men have lost their way in modern society, particularly as we are still stuck in the traditional roles that have not evolved to suit our current world. Through his own difficult experiences with trauma and addiction he wants to help the modern man embrace their social being and reconnect with what really matters. Niall and Logan discuss how ‘toxic’ masculinity is leaking into our culture, along with how we can raise healthy boys through non-judgement, curiosity and leading by example.  This podcast discusses some sensitive themes, please take care when listening.   For more mindfulness content check out Niall’s Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/niallbreslin Follow Niall on IG @bressie, TikTok @niallbreslin, FB @whereismymindpodcast and Twitter @nbrez and visit his website: www.niallbreslin.com. Saving Grace with Robin Grace

Sometimes you hear a person’s story and wonder how they have not only overcome but transformed their pain into something positive to help the world.  In this week’s episode Niall is joined by Robin Grace, a Garda who has turned his own difficult experiences into helping others in their crisis moments. While travelling India in his early twenties, Robin had a flashback to a traumatic event from his childhood that would change the course of his life. It was also at this time that he found a passion for Buddhism and meditation that would help him for many years to come. Having come through an intense processing of trauma and his own dark night of the soul, Robin took a chance and applied for An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s police force, where his passion for suicide prevention and intervention grew. He’s now hoping to develop an app that will use technology to support people in their most difficult moments.  This podcast discusses some sensitive themes, including sexual abuse and suicide, please take care when listening.   For more mindfulness content check out Niall’s Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/niallbreslin Follow Niall on IG @bressie, TikTok @niallbreslin, FB @whereismymindpodcast and Twitter @nbrez and visit his website: www.niallbreslin.com.
