Dachner vs Landers: A deeper look into the lawsuit against Rocco Landers {S2 E43]

Hi All, I did my best to report on actual news (yey?). Although I did my best, I wasn’t able to convince Mr Flyer, Dachner’s attorney, to join the podcast conversation. I spoke with Michael Gougis, fellow journalist and motorcycle rider (racer & test rider) to talk the basics about lawsuits and similar cases. I then spoke with Mr Assanti to find out details behind his claims from the Roadracing World Article and the reality they face with this trial. Finally, I spoke with a third party attorney, Scott Adrian, to talk about leftover questions and discuss some of the things from the plaintiff’s claims. I am not choosing a side, but I represent motorcycle enthusiasts when I say:  we shouldn’t be suing one another for track incidents that are bound to happen. It sucks, actually quite a bit, since Dachner had a medical injury. But it also sucks to have bad sportsmanship. I’m hoping this continues the conversation towards a future we can all enjoy to the capacity that we are able. Should racers be separated from regular track days or grouped separately from hobby riders? Should we advocate for riders insurance on track? Should we advocate for tracks to recognize users by lap times to help prevent collisions like this from happening? Tell me your thoughts in the comments. Motorcycle Movies Part 1: The fast and the frustrated [S2 E42]

Everyone likes a good movie, for entertainment, excitement, and exposure to new ideas. Several pieces of cinema caught my attention for their portrayal of motorcycle culture and although this podcast only covers three of them, I have a few more in my pocket for another episode. Enjoy a conversation about three iconic motorcycle movies. The Bikeriders (2023) The movie starts in Chicago in 1965, following the story of Kathy, a woman who gets involved with a motorcycle club. Benny is her love interest and she quickly learns the "bike life" in this club is harsh, strict, and merciless - albeit, if the order and respect required to hold the club together starts to waiver. Several fights brake out in the movie, people die, judgements are passed, and folks ride without helmets... the good old days... Stream on Amazon Prime or Peacock TV. Biker Boyz (2003) Two decades before The Bikeriders released, but 40 years after in history, Biker Boys features club life from a different angle. The movie starts with a scene of how Kid (protagonist) loses his father, Slick Will, in a motorcycle accident. Slick Will is the mechanic for the club leader, Smoke or "King Smoke". The movie follows the growth of Kid alongside his friends, showcasing what street drag racing was like in SoCal in the early 2000s. Tattoos, racing on a bet, hard-to-get love interests, and the founding of a rookie club the "Biker Boys".... Stream on Amazon Prime. One Fast Move (2024) The movie sets up the main character, Wes, as an ex-military personnel who got dishonorably discharged for squid crimes. Faced with rough employment prospects, he decides to be a pro motorcycle racer. He goes to EchoPark Speedway looking for his father, who he knows road races and gets told some harsh truths. His journey to race as a pro is told over the course of the following 75 minutes. Unlimited (free(?)) track time, flirting with the diner waitress, going faster and harder all the time, and a series of questionable decisions... Building the Supermoto Championship: Inside the Vision with Bronson Pearce [S2 E40]

Ever wondered what goes through the mind of a world-class racer when everything is on the line? How do elite athletes make the right decisions at blistering speeds and under immense pressure? In this episode, I’m joined by Bronson Pearce, AMA Flat Track and Supermoto racer and former Team USA representative at the 2023 Supermoto of Nations. We dive into the mindset, preparation, and split-second decision-making required to compete. Bronson also shares the story behind why he started hosting his Bakersfield race series, the Supermoto Championship, and reveals a bigger mission: creating real opportunities for American riders to train, race, and compete locally for national and world stages. Whether you’re a racer, motorsports fan, or someone fascinated by elite performance, this conversation pulls back the curtain on what it truly takes to race at the top. ......................................................................................... Alaska Roadracing to MotoAmerica Team: Thomas Davidson [S2 E39]

Last year, I found out that my home state, Alaska, has its own road racing series - on a local airstrip that was built in 1943. Known as Tanacross Track, this special race series was made possible in 1987 by the Carter Family and Glen Gillette. Now the torch has been passed on to Thomas Davidson and several others to help run the organization. Known for his technical skill in tuning motorcycles, Thomas /joins me on the podcast to talk about how he grew his interest in tinkering on bikes into a career that led him to be the first Ducati Master Tech in AK then go on to be a team leader with MotoAmerica for teams such as M4 ECStar Suzuki. Listen to us discuss the "lower 48", moto mechanics, then have an Alaskan Thai food debate. Many thanks to Thomas for joining me for his first podcast interview. Many more thanks to the listeners of Monki Moto Pod and Patreon supporters! .........................................................................................
