Everyone likes a good movie, for entertainment, excitement, and exposure to new ideas. Several pieces of cinema caught my attention for their portrayal of motorcycle culture and although this podcast only covers three of them, I have a few more in my pocket for another episode. Enjoy a conversation about three iconic motorcycle movies. The Bikeriders (2023) The movie starts in Chicago in 1965, following the story of Kathy, a woman who gets involved with a motorcycle club. Benny is her love interest and she quickly learns the "bike life" in this club is harsh, strict, and merciless - albeit, if the order and respect required to hold the club together starts to waiver. Several fights brake out in the movie, people die, judgements are passed, and folks ride without helmets... the good old days... Stream on Amazon Prime or Peacock TV. Biker Boyz (2003) Two decades before The Bikeriders released, but 40 years after in history, Biker Boys features club life from a different angle. The movie starts with a scene of how Kid (protagonist) loses his father, Slick Will, in a motorcycle accident. Slick Will is the mechanic for the club leader, Smoke or "King Smoke". The movie follows the growth of Kid alongside his friends, showcasing what street drag racing was like in SoCal in the early 2000s. Tattoos, racing on a bet, hard-to-get love interests, and the founding of a rookie club the "Biker Boys".... Stream on Amazon Prime. One Fast Move (2024) The movie sets up the main character, Wes, as an ex-military personnel who got dishonorably discharged for squid crimes. Faced with rough employment prospects, he decides to be a pro motorcycle racer. He goes to EchoPark Speedway looking for his father, who he knows road races and gets told some harsh truths. His journey to race as a pro is told over the course of the following 75 minutes. Unlimited (free(?)) track time, flirting with the diner waitress, going faster and harder all the time, and a series of questionable decisions...
