Your Motherhood is Only as Powerful as Your Personhood - Revisit

People will tell you: a baby changes everything. What no one tells you is how much you change — and how hard it is to love yourself when you don't quite recognize yourself anymore. In this conversation, Dr. Becky sits down with poet and author Cleo Wade (Remember Love) to talk about what it actually feels like to lose yourself in early parenthood — and what finding your way back looks like. They go deep on postpartum depression, the guilt that masquerades as gratitude, why the hard thoughts hit so much harder than the hard moments themselves, and the small, unglamorous practices — a walk, a shower, two words on a post-it note — that can become a real turning point. Cleo's line has stayed with so many parents who've heard it: your motherhood is only as powerful as your personhood. This episode is a reminder of why that's true — and a guide for how to actually live it. We're re-releasing this episode to celebrate the launch of Rattled, our new podcast for the early years of parenthood, as well as a whole new home for the baby stage inside the Good Inside app — with sleep support, lactation expertise, workshops, and tools built around one belief: a parent who feels held can hold their baby. Subscribe to Rattled; new episodes every Thursday. Learn more about Good Inside Baby. Good Inside is growing up! Listen to The In-Between Years with Dr. Sheryl, for parents of teens and tweens! Emma Grede: "Your kids don't need you to be their everything"

“Your kids don’t need all of you. They need a fully expressed version of you.” What if the pressure to be everything to your children is actually the thing making motherhood harder? In this powerful conversation, Emma Grede (entrepreneur, co-founder of SKIMS & Good American) shares a radically honest take on ambition, guilt, and what it really means to be a “good mother.” This episode is a permission slip to stop doing it all and start doing what actually matters. 💡 What You’ll Learn in This Episode Why you don’t need to live up to anyone else’s version of motherhood How to let go of guilt (without letting go of your ambition) Why life isn’t about balance - it’s about seasons How to stop micromanaging everything (your kids, your partner, your life) Why putting yourself first is not selfish - it’s essential You don’t need to do it all. You just need to decide what actually matters and let the rest go. Watch every full episode on YouTube and subscribe.  Loved this episode? "What If I Hurt My Baby?" — with Leah Smart

What if I hurt my baby? If this question has ever run through your head — even once — you are not the only one. Dr. Becky sits with writer, executive coach, and mom Leah Smart, who opens up about living with perinatal anxiety and the intrusive thoughts she didn't know had a name. They unpack what intrusive thoughts actually are, why they happen, and the reframe that changed everything for Leah: your fears are almost always about what you love most. Plus, a therapist assignment she almost couldn't bring herself to follow through on, a laundry moment she'll never forget, and why getting help isn't about how bad things have to get first. Rattled is a new podcast from Good Inside, made for the third trimester, the foggy newborn weeks, and the thoughts new parents don't say out loud. Each episode starts with one of those thoughts — and ends with you feeling a little less alone. The Funny Kid Becomes the Dad: How We’re Raised with Kenan Thompson

We all grow up playing a role in our family — the responsible one, the easy one, the funny one. For Kenan Thompson, that role started early. In this episode of How We’re Raised, Dr. Becky talks with Kenan about how becoming “the funny one” shaped the way he connects with people — and what it looks like to parent with more intention today. They discuss: The connection between humor and emotional survival; What made Kenan’s childhood feel grounded despite early fame; Why he’s choosing a different approach to discipline with his daughters; Why he chose to write his new children's book, Unfunny Bunny; And what he hopes his kids will one day say about how they were raised. A conversation about identity, family patterns, and raising kids with both warmth and boundaries. Dr. Becky's 4pm Dread

In the early days of new parenthood, there are moments no one really prepares you for. For Dr. Becky, it was 4pm. Every day, as the light started to fade, a wave of dread would roll in—heavy, confusing, and hard to name. Along with a thought that felt even harder: “I can’t do this.” In this deeply personal solo episode, Dr. Becky shares her own early postpartum experience—the identity shift, the crash from “I can handle anything” to something entirely different, and the quiet reframe she wishes she had back then. If you’ve ever had a moment that made you question everything, you’re not the only one. And what feels forever… isn’t. Learn more about Good Inside Baby.

What’s Really Going On: Why Screens Never Satisfy Kids

Lots of us think screen time is a discipline problem.“My kid just wants more.”“They don’t know when to stop.”“I need to set better limits.”But what if that’s not actually what’s going on?In this episode, Dr. Becky talks with science journalist Michaeleen Doucleff, author of Dopamine Kids, about the brain system driving kids’ behavior around screens—and why more screen time rarely leads to feeling satisfied. You’ll learn: Why dopamine isn’t about pleasure—it’s about wanting Why kids often feel worse (not better) after screens Why willpower and strict limits don’t work on their own What actually helps kids feel more regulated, fulfilled, and “done” This conversation will shift how you see your child—and give you a more effective, less stressful way to respond. If you’re ready to make changes around screen use in your home, Dr. Becky shares simple, practical scripts to help you get started—covering everything from removing devices from shared spaces to handling your child’s protest, whining, or tantrums.
