The Darkest Web: 3. The hidden child

US Special Agents Greg and Pete are desperate. Somewhere in America a twelve year old girl, who they have called Lucy, is being sexually abused. Her abuser has been sharing images of his abuse for six years on the dark web. They have to find her - and save her. They were convinced that Facebook would be able to help them using its facial recognition technology, but the tech giant is unable to help. So they go back to the start, examining every single thing they can see in the room she is being abused in: the sofa, the bed and then finally they wonder what they might discover if they look at the room itself, specifically the exposed brick wall. Is there any way someone could identify these bricks? And could that person help them to find Lucy? Season 11 of World of Secrets, The Darkest Web, is a BBC Eye investigation for the BBC World Service. This podcast includes some upsetting scenes, discussions of child sexual abuse, and there’s some strong language. The Darkest Web: 1. Meeting a monster

US Special Agents Greg Squire and Pete Manning work together to track down people who sexually abuse children and share images of their abuse online. They thought they knew what they were dealing with but they’ve just discovered they have no idea. In a prison in Amsterdam they meet a prolific paedophile, Robert Micklesons, who reveals to them the vast online world created by paedophiles to share images and video of child sexual abuse. When they get back to the US they get an urgent call. A police officer in Denmark has found images of a girl in America who appears to have been sexually abused for six years. But no one has any idea where she is. Their job is to find her. But how will they do it? Season 11 of World of Secrets, The Darkest Web, is a BBC Eye investigation for the BBC World Service. Undercover Cop

Britt Elmore, former undercover narcotics detective, spent years embedded inside the operations most people only see in crime dramas — building cases against dealers, managing informants, and navigating the moral gray zones that define modern drug enforcement. In this episode, he pulls back the curtain on how undercover operations really work: the mechanics of infiltrating criminal networks, the fragile trust between officers and informants, and how drugs move from international suppliers all the way down to local street corners. He traces the full supply chain of the underground drug economy — and explains why it continues to evolve faster than law enforcement can keep up. Learn more about your ad choices. Drawing on decades of academic research and teaching at Oxford, Goldman argues that much of today’s debate about empire and slavery is driven more by politics than by historical evidence. The discussion explores how slavery existed across almost every civilization, why the British Empire is often singled out despite broader global contexts, and whether the Industrial Revolution was actually built on the profits of slavery. Goldman also explains why many historians reject the idea that modern societies should pay reparations for events that occurred centuries ago, and why such policies may deepen division rather than resolve it. Along the way, the conversation touches on the Arab slave trade, the economics of abolition, the dangers of judging the past purely through modern moral standards, and how technological change helped make slavery obsolete. Goldman also reflects on the idea of Britishness, the legacy of parliamentary democracy, immigration, national identity, and the cultural tensions shaping Western societies today. This is a deep dive into the historical arguments behind some of the most controversial political debates of our time. #history #reparations #britishempire  Join the 30k heretics on my mailing list: https://andrewgoldheretics.com  Check out my new documentary channel: https://youtube.com/@andrewgoldinvestigates  Andrew on X: https://twitter.com/andrewgold_ok   Insta: https://www.instagram.com/andrewgold_ok Heretics YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@andrewgoldheretics Chapters:  0:00 The Reparations Debate 5:00 Who Is Responsible for Slavery Today? 10:10 Slavery Was EVERYWHERE in History 14:30 The ARAB Slave Trade Explained 19:00 Why Britain Developed a Unique Social Culture 23:20 Did Slavery Fund the Industrial Revolution? 27:40 The Problem With Judging History by Modern Morals 33:20 Would Reparations Actually Work? 39:00 The £18 Trillion Reparations Claim 44:00 Is British Identity UNDER ATTACK? 49:10 What Does “Britishness” Really Mean? 53:00 Immigration, Democracy and Cultural Change 59:50 A Heretic Lawrence admires Learn more about your ad choices.
