Ep. 001 : (Un)Learning That I Had to Be Good at Math to Be Enough

We’re not born believing we’re not enough—but over time, we absorb stories that quietly shape how we see ourselves. In this first episode of (Un)Learning Out Loud, I share how my journey of unlearning really began—with one quiet belief I picked up as a child: that I wasn’t smart enough, and because of that, maybe I wasn’t enough. Growing up, my brother was seen as the smarter one. Naturally gifted. Sharp. Capable. I wasn’t compared out loud, but the unspoken message was there—and I carried it with me. Over time, that belief shaped how I showed up, how hard I worked, and how much I tried to prove myself. It wasn’t just about being smart anymore—it became about being worthy. In this episode, I reflect on how that belief was formed, how I internalized it, and how I’m learning to unravel it. I also share a 4-step process that’s been helping me gently unlearn what no longer serves me: Becoming aware of the patterns Investigating where they came from Practicing self-forgiveness—for ourselves and the people who shaped us Relearning new truths that feel more honest and aligned This episode isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about being honest with the beliefs you’ve carried—and giving yourself permission to set them down. What belief did you absorb that might no longer be true for the version of you today? Thanks for listening—and welcome to Unlearning Out Loud. I'm so glad you're here.Want to keep unlearning together?
