AHC podcast: A Total Story Revisited [part two]

What can the "golden age of television" of the 1980s tell you about belonging, desire and anxiety today? Quite a lot, according to Taiwanese artist Su Hui-Yu, who sees the variety show (perhaps the most universal of all TV formats) as a lens to mark the ideological tensions of the present.  In this second and last podcast episode we are diving deep in to the life of Su in search of what has formed his signature method of 'reshooting': Making art works by revisiting films and narratives form the past to bring forward the untold stories and forgotten tales that bubble right underneath the surface. Through crisp and highly aesthetically films, museum-scale productions and collaborative performances around the world, Su Hui-Yu have already drawn international attention, from the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, and the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art, among others. Now the curatorial team Martin Wendelbo and Regen Li, who is behind the trailblazing art platform Tofu Collective, have invited Su to extend his research into a Scandinavian exhibition for the first time with Vroom Vroom: A Total Story by Su Hui-Yu. AHC Podcast: A Total Story: A Total Transmission [Part one]

Since the turn of the millennium, new media artist Su Hui-Yu (b. 1976) has used mass media as a critical interface to surface narratives we have forgotten or suppressed, or those that need a redo to actively rewrite our present. This podcast series is a deep dive into the worlds of Su Hui-Yu and the exhibition that in 2026 turned a Copenhagen gallery into a fully functional, psychedelic television station. Across two episodes, we go deep into Su Hui-Yu's works, what has shaped him as an artist and his collaborative method of 're-shooting' to add transparency into the world. His museum-scale productions, staged from the Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei, to the Bogotá Museum of Modern Art, have made Su Hui-Yu one of the most closely watched artists working with new media today. This year, in collaboration with Copenhagen curatorial duo Martin Wendelbo and Regen Li of Tofu Collective, Su brings his practice to Scandinavia for the first time transforming the exhibition space Room Room into a working TV station with Vroom Vroom: A Total Story by Su Hui-Yu. Here, existing films, live performances and real-time filmmaking all unfold as a living archive, staged in dialogue with Scandinavian television history and the clichés of the genre, the variety show. Tune in on this episode for a sonic deep dive into the opening of Vroom Vroom: A Total Story by Su Hui-Yu, recorded live in Copenhagen in late spring 2026. ~ You are listening to A Total Story: A Total Transmission [part one]  This podcast series is brought to you by Art Hub Copenhagen in collaboration with Tofu Collective, and with support from Statens Kunstfond (2026) Narrator: Stis Andersen Production: a sound Credits: Video works used in the production of this podcast from By Su Hui-Yu are: The Trio Hall (2023).
