Meta Faces Landmark Trial; Peptides for Pets

Meta faces a landmark federal trial brought by 29 states over allegations that Facebook and Instagram were deliberately designed to addict young users and that the company improperly collected children’s data. The case could expose Meta to substantial penalties and potentially more consequential court-ordered changes to how its platforms operate. Also this weekend, pet owners are spending money on experimental treatments they believe will help their pets live better and longer lives, including peptide injections, red-light therapy, and nutritional supplements. Some pet owners are giving their pets rapamycin, a drug that has shown promising anti-aging properties in studies with mice, despite the lack of official results on its effectiveness in dogs and cats. On today’s show, Lisa Mateo, Joe Mathieu, and Carol Massar speak with: - California Attorney General Rob Bonta, on how the landmark youth safety case against Meta is a “tobacco moment.” - Anna Edney, Bloomberg News National Health Care Reporter, on the pet owners spending big on anti-aging drugs and peptides. - Amanda Mull, Bloomberg Businessweek Senior Reporter, on the backlash against influencers who seek to achieve physical perfection. - Olivia Ferney, Luxury Travel & Event Expert, on planning events for a roster of ultra-wealthy clients. President Donald Trump downplayed concerns over conditions for sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, amid an uproar from service members' families as its deployment to the Middle East approaches nine months. Numerous relatives of the sailors and Marines aboard the aircraft carrier have voiced outrage at reports of food shortages, water contamination, moldy showers and long shifts in wartime aboard the vessel. Also this weekend, Madison Square Garden Sports is proceeding with its plan to split the NBA's Knicks and the NHL's New York Rangers. The US Senate confirmed Todd Blanche as attorney general, elevating President Donald Trump’s one-time personal defense lawyer to lead the nation’s top federal law enforcement agency. Republicans closed ranks and supported Blanche, 52, in a 50-49 vote even after two GOP senators joined Democrats in opposition. Governors Talk Affordability; AI Complicates Dating

Governors from Oklahoma, Maryland and Delaware say states remain the nation's laboratories of democracy, sharing policy ideas on housing, education, child care and energy while arguing that affordability is the top concern for voters across party lines. They say states cannot control inflation or global energy prices but can lower costs through housing supply, consumer protections, child care investments and policies that encourage economic growth while managing the impact of AI and data centers. Also this weekend, AI is dividing people not just over what the technology can do, but what kind of future they want to live in. A survey of 3,500 young people in the US conducted by dating app Hily found 64% of Gen Z and 56% of millennial daters said they wouldn’t date someone who relies on AI for everyday decisions. On today’s show, Bloomberg This Weekend hosts David Gura and Christina Ruffini speak with: - Heads of the National Governors Association - Governors Spencer Cox (R-Utah), Wes Moore (D-Maryland), Kevin Stitt (R-Oklahoma), and Matt Meyer (D-Delaware) - on the relationship between state and federal leaders. - Bloomberg News Contributor Josie Cox, on how AI is complicating relationships at work and home. - Bloomberg Pursuits Global Luxury Editor Chris Rovzar, on whether it's acceptable to wear shorts to the office. India's Cockroach Protests; Netanyahu's Challenger

The Cockroach Janta Party, which led India’s biggest student protests in years, wants to build a nationwide movement to hold the government accountable for its promises to young people, one of its senior members said. The “Cockroach” party, which was created by a Boston University graduate Abhijeet Dipke, helped to channel youth anger over repeated exam paper leaks and other failures in the education system. Last week, the group drew tens of thousands of protesters onto the streets of New Delhi, with demonstrations quickly spreading to other cities across the country and opposition parties rallying behind its demands. Also this weekend, Gadi Eisenkot, a former head of Israel’s armed forces, has emerged as the main challenger to Benjamin Netanyahu in upcoming elections. Eisenkot is seen as a stark contrast to Netanyahu in style, and his background and policies have given him a degree of support among Israelis, but he will face tough challenges in forming a stable new coalition. On today’s show, Bloomberg This Weekend hosts David Gura and Christina Ruffini speak with: - Dan Strumpf, Bloomberg News Senior Reporter, on the Cockroach Janta Party's influence over young people in India. - David Remnick, Editor of The New Yorker and Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author, on Gadi Eisenkot emerging as a challenger to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. - Randall Williams, Bloomberg News Senior Sports Reporter, on FIFA President Gianni Infantino abandoning a controversial plan to create a commercial entity that would have opened the door to outside investors for the World Cup. Plus, Christina, David, and Tim Stenovec play Pointed: The News Quiz for Risk Takers. US Pauses Strikes on Iran; Miami vs NYC

The US paused an almost two-week run of strikes against Iran for a second night while the Islamic Republic signaled it was refraining from any retaliatory attacks and held talks with Oman over the Strait of Hormuz. Skirmishes between Yemen's Houthi militants and Saudi Arabia have ratcheted up tensions, with the Houthis firing missiles and drones at Saudi facilities and the Saudi-led coalition responding with strikes on Houthi military positions. Also this weekend, Miami's ultra-luxury real estate market is on track to shatter records in 2026, outpacing sales in New York City and the Bay Area as wealth continues to migrate to low-tax states. In the first six months of the year, 24 condos and single-family homes closed for over $30 million in Miami-Dade county, nearly double the number sold during the same period last year. On today’s show, Bloomberg This Weekend hosts David Gura, Christina Ruffini, and Lisa Mateo speak with: - Becca Wasser, Bloomberg Economics Defense Lead, and Chris Kennedy, Bloomberg Economics Economic Statecraft Lead, on the US pausing strikes against Iran for a second night. - Mark Lawrence Schrad, Author of "Vodka Politics: Alcohol, Autocracy, and the Secret History of Russian State," on how vodka is hard-wired into the Russian political system. - Mike McGlone, Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Commodity Strategist, on how the Miami metropolitan area is becoming more expensive than New York City. Trump Headlines White House Correspondents' Dinner; Measles Cases Rise

President Donald Trump headlined a scaled-down White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Friday, three months after the original event was cut short by a gunman who allegedly sought to assassinate the president. Trump, in a long speech, at times criticized several reporters by name — sometimes in searing terms — while also saying he had respect for journalism and the press in the room. Also this weekend, US measles cases in 2026 have already outpaced last year’s total and have reached a level not seen in more than three decades, with 2,318 confirmed infections reported. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says vaccine policy under the Trump administration has been upended since Robert F. Kennedy Jr. became secretary of Health and Human Services, with thousands of career scientists at the CDC fired and funding for local health departments frozen. On today’s show, Bloomberg This Weekend hosts David Gura, Christina Ruffini, and Lisa Mateo speak with: - Jeff Mason, Bloomberg News, White House Correspondent, on President Trump headlining the White House Correspondents' Dinner. - Stephen Stapczynski, Bloomberg News, Energy & Commodities Reporter, on renewed Houthi attacks in the Red Sea threatening a key alternative route for Persian Gulf oil exports. - Dr. Amesh Adalja, Senior Scholar, Johns Hopkins University Center for Health Security, on the rise in measles cases. - Emily Wilson, Classicist & Translator of “The Odyssey,” on how her translation has seen renewed interest with the release of Christopher Nolan's film.
