EP41: Five Things My Father, Bob Proctor, Taught Me

I had something most students of my father never had. I got to watch Bob Proctor when there was no stage, no seminar, and nobody taking notes. I saw him at the kitchen table. In the car. On phone calls. During ordinary moments at home. And, ultimately, during the final days of his life. In this episode of Born to Win, I want to share five of the most important things my father personally taught me—not simply lessons I studied, but principles I watched him live for more than sixty years. These five ideas have profoundly shaped the way I think, make decisions, handle difficult situations, and live my life today. My father was one of the most decisive people I've ever known. When I brought him a big idea, he rarely started by asking me how I was going to accomplish it. He would ask: “Brian, do you really want this?” Because if the desire was strong enough, he believed the way would begin revealing itself one step at a time. I also watched him deliberately choose where he placed his attention. He looked for what was good. He practiced gratitude. He refused to allow people who had hurt him to occupy space in his mind. And perhaps the most meaningful lesson came near the end of his life. Dad told me to keep talking to him after he was gone. Ask the questions. Get quiet. Listen. He taught me that intuition would continue guiding me if I was willing to hear it—and courageous enough to act on what I heard. None of these principles are complicated. That may be precisely why they're so powerful. My father didn't simply understand these ideas intellectually. He practiced them. Again and again. Until they became part of who he was. I can't hand you my father. But I can hand you some of what he handed me. And I hope you'll take these five lessons and make them part of the way you live your own life. EP40: Stop Wishing. Start Aiming. How to Set a Goal That Changes the Direction of Your Life

Do you have a real goal right now? Not a wish. Not a “someday.” Not something vague you hope happens eventually. I mean an actual goal — written down, specific, dated, and clear enough that you could recite it right now if I asked you. In this episode of Born to Win, I explore one of the most important ideas my father, Bob Proctor, spent more than fifty years teaching: Your results are not random. They are closely connected to the way you are using your mind — intentionally or by default. Most people do not actually set goals. They have wishes. They want to make more money. Get healthier. Build a better relationship. Create a different life. But without a clear target, the mind simply keeps repeating what is already familiar. A real goal changes that. It gives your thinking direction. It gives your imagination something to work with. And it gives your daily actions a reason. In this episode, we explore: • The difference between a wish and a real goal • Why your results reflect your thinking and self-image • The connection between purpose, vision, and goals • Why a worthwhile goal should excite you and scare you • How to write your goal in the present tense • Why you do not need to know the entire “how” before you begin • The six-step process for choosing and committing to a meaningful goal • How to create and use a simple goal card • Why repetition and emotional involvement matter • How to recognize resistance from your existing paradigms • Why persistence matters more than occasional intensity • How your environment can either support or weaken your goal One of the biggest mistakes people make is waiting until they know exactly how they are going to achieve something before they commit to it. You do not need the entire path. You need a direction. Then you take one step today. And another tomorrow. The way begins revealing itself through action. My father’s instruction around goal cards was incredibly simple: Write your goal. Carry it with you. Read it several times a day. See it. Feel it. And keep impressing that idea into your mind until it begins becoming part of who you are. So here is the question I want you to think about: Are you living by default... Or have you consciously chosen where you are going? Stop wishing. Start aiming. Write the goal down. Put a date on it. And take the first step. Simplified Success in 15 Minutes or Less. EP39: Act As If: Becoming the Person Ready for the Success You Desire

What does it really mean to “act as if”? It does not mean pretending to be successful. It does not mean ignoring reality, performing for other people, or acting like everything is fine when it is not. “Act as if” means beginning to think, choose, and behave in harmony with the person you are becoming. In this episode of Born to Win, I share what my father, Bob Proctor, truly meant by this often-misunderstood phrase—and why lasting success begins with identity before it ever shows up as a result. We'll explore: • Why acting as if is not the same as “faking it until you make it” • How behavior gradually reshapes your self-image • Why identity comes before lasting results • The difference between pretending and practicing • How repeated choices reinforce the person you are becoming • Why successful people build habits that match their desired identity • How imagination and will work together during transformation • Why discomfort often means growth is underway • The question my father used instead of simply asking, “What should I do?” • A practical exercise to help you embody one new quality this week People often believe success changes a person. But more often, the person changes first—and then success becomes possible. Every thought, choice, habit, and standard becomes another vote for the person you are choosing to be. And one day, you realize you are no longer acting as if. You have become that person. Simplified Success in 15 Minutes or Less. EP38: What Do You Really Want?

What do you really want? It sounds like a simple question. But for many people, it is one of the hardest questions to answer honestly. In this episode of Born to Win, I explore why so many people become busy maintaining their lives without ever taking the time to consciously decide where they want those lives to go. We respond to emails. Attend meetings. Pay bills. Take care of responsibilities. None of those things are wrong. But there is a difference between maintaining your life and creating it. My father, Bob Proctor, asked people this question for decades: “What do you really want?” And almost immediately, people would begin describing what they did not want. They did not want debt. They did not want stress. They did not want to feel stuck. But knowing what you want to avoid does not give your mind a destination. In this episode, I explore: • Why clarity gives your life direction • The difference between maintenance and creation • Why busy does not always mean productive • How a worthwhile goal organizes your thinking • Why desire must be stronger than fear • The difference between wishing and deciding • How a clear goal expands your awareness • Why the real purpose of a goal is who you become while pursuing it • How imagination, will, and belief work together • A simple exercise to help uncover what truly makes you feel alive You do not need to know every step. You do not need to see the entire path. But you do owe yourself an honest answer to this question: What do you really want? Because once you choose a direction, your thoughts, decisions, and daily actions can begin moving into alignment with it. Your future is coming. It is time to become the director. EP37: Hold the Image – Why the Picture in Your Mind Determines the Direction of Your Life

What does it really mean to "hold the image?" Growing up with Bob Proctor as my father, I heard those words almost every day. "Hold the image." "If you can see it in your mind, you can hold it in your hand." They're inspiring statements—but they're much more than positive thinking or visualization. In this episode, I unpack what my father truly meant by those words and why the picture you consistently hold in your mind quietly shapes the decisions you make, the opportunities you notice, and ultimately the life you create. Every meaningful achievement begins twice—first mentally, then physically. The challenge is learning to remain faithful to your vision long before the evidence appears. Inside this episode, we'll explore: What it really means to "hold the image" Why every great achievement begins in the imagination How Imagination and Will work together to create results Why so many people abandon their goals before success arrives How elite athletes use mental rehearsal to improve performance The connection between focus, emotion, belief, and achievement Why your subconscious responds to the images you repeatedly rehearse A simple daily practice to strengthen your vision and stay focused on what you're creating I also share personal stories from growing up with my father and explain why, even today, I still hear his voice reminding me: "Hold the image." Because when you choose your vision instead of reacting to your circumstances, you begin creating your life on purpose. Simplified Success in 15 Minutes or Less. EP36: Belief – The Invisible Force Behind Every Result

What if the greatest force shaping your life isn't your circumstances... but your beliefs? In this episode of Born to Win, I explore one of the most important principles my father, Bob Proctor, taught throughout his life: people don't necessarily get what they want—they get what they believe they deserve. We all have goals, dreams, and aspirations. But beneath every goal lies a deeper question: Do you actually believe it's possible for you? Because wanting something and believing in it are not the same thing. In this episode, I'll show you how your beliefs influence your decisions, your habits, your self-image, and ultimately the results you experience. We'll explore why people stay stuck in familiar patterns, how limiting beliefs quietly shape everyday life, and—most importantly—how you can begin changing them. We'll discuss: Why belief is the invisible force behind every result The difference between desire and belief How paradigms quietly keep you living the same patterns Why your brain constantly looks for evidence to support your beliefs The connection between belief, self-image, and lasting success Why action strengthens belief—and belief strengthens action A simple practice to begin replacing limiting beliefs with empowering ones My father often reminded us that "The only limits on life are the ones we impose on ourselves." I believe those limits are, at their core, beliefs. The encouraging news is this: beliefs are learned—which means they can be changed. So if you've ever felt like you're capable of more, but something invisible keeps holding you back, this episode is for you. Simplified Success in 15 Minutes or Less. EP35: Stop Drifting. Start Deciding. The uncomfortable move that changes your life.

Today, I’m sharing a powerful message because I believe someone needs to hear it right now. The heart of the message is simple: Stop drifting. Too many people already know what they need to do. They know the conversation they need to have. The dream they want to pursue. The decision they need to make. But instead of acting, they wait. They wait until they have the perfect plan. They wait until they feel ready. They wait until fear disappears. I’ve learned from my father, Bob Proctor, that life doesn’t change when you finally figure everything out. Life changes the moment you decide. In this special edition, I share personal stories, lessons from my father, and practical ideas that have transformed my own life—from building our dream home to learning how to move beyond limiting beliefs and stop letting "the how" keep me stuck. Inside this episode, we explore: • Why drifting quietly steals years from your life • The power of making a committed decision before you know every step • Why clarity follows action—not the other way around • How limiting beliefs keep you from pursuing what you really want • The importance of entering into the spirit of your goal • Why your self-image determines the results you create • How to stop waiting for certainty and begin trusting yourself • The difference between knowing these principles and actually living them More than anything, I want this episode to encourage you to ask one simple question: What do I really want? And then... Take the first step. Because one decision can alter the trajectory of your life. Simplified Success in 15 Minutes or Less. (Well... almost. This special edition is worth the extra time.) EP34: The Spirit of Life

Spoiler alert: This is my favorite episode of Born to Win so far! In this episode, I explore a powerful idea that influenced my father, Bob Proctor, and many of the great thinkers he studied throughout his life. It comes from the writings of Thomas Troward and centers around a simple but transformational question: What does it mean to enter into the spirit of something? Because many people go through life physically present but mentally absent. They show up. They perform the actions. They complete the tasks. But they never fully enter into what they are doing. And that changes everything. In this episode, I discuss why two people can do the exact same thing and have completely different experiences—and why the difference is often found in the spirit they bring to it. Inside this episode, I explore: • What Thomas Troward meant by "the spirit of life" • Why presence is one of the most powerful habits you can develop • How focus increases your effectiveness and energy • The difference between doing something and fully entering into it • Why gratitude is more than a practice—it's a state of being • How self-image influences the spirit from which you operate • Why goals, affirmations, and visualization only work when you emotionally engage with them • The connection between authenticity, conviction, and results • How distraction pulls us away from the richness of life • A simple exercise to help you bring a new spirit into an important area of your life I also share personal observations about my father and what made him so impactful—not just his knowledge, but his ability to be fully present and fully engaged in whatever he was doing. Here's the key idea I want you to remember: Success is not only about what you do. It's about the spirit you bring to what you do. When you enter fully into your work, your relationships, your goals, and your life, everything begins to deepen. Your focus sharpens. Your energy changes. Your results improve. This episode is about moving from participation to presence—and discovering what becomes possible when you are truly where your feet are. Simplified Success in 15 Minutes or Less.
