From the Battlefield to Building Wealth: A Conversation with Brent Bowers

For many veterans, the toughest mission begins after they hang up the uniform. Transitioning from military service to civilian life often means finding a new purpose, building financial stability, and creating opportunities for the future. While many pursue traditional careers, others choose the entrepreneurial path—using the discipline, leadership, and resilience they developed in uniform to build something of their own. Tonight on HomeFront SitRep, host Willis and Gunny Deeds welcomes former U.S. Army officer, real estate investor, entrepreneur, and founder of The Land Sharks, Brent Bowers, for an insightful conversation about military transition, entrepreneurship, and achieving financial freedom through vacant land investing. After serving more than eight years as an Army officer, Brent realized he wanted greater control over his time, more opportunities for his family, and a way to build lasting wealth outside of traditional employment. That journey led him into the world of real estate, where he discovered a niche many investors overlook—vacant land. Today, Brent has built a thriving business and has helped countless aspiring investors learn how to identify opportunities, evaluate land, negotiate deals, and create recurring income through strategic land investments. His mission extends beyond real estate; it's about empowering people—especially veterans—to build financial confidence and design a life with greater freedom and purpose. During this episode, David and Brent discuss: The challenges of transitioning from military service to entrepreneurship. How Army leadership principles translate into business success. Why vacant land investing differs from traditional real estate. Common mistakes new investors should avoid. Building passive income and long-term wealth. The importance of systems, discipline, and consistency. Why financial education is critical for veterans. Overcoming fear and taking the first step toward entrepreneurship. Creating a legacy that extends beyond military service. Whether you're preparing to leave the military, looking for additional income, interested in real estate investing, or simply searching for inspiration from someone who successfully built a second mission after service, this episode offers practical insights and valuable lessons from a veteran who continues to lead by example. Join us for a conversation about service, leadership, entrepreneurship, and discovering that your greatest mission may begin long after your military career ends. Uncivilized Rebirth: Rebuilding the Warrior Within with Paul B. Miller

What happens when the uniform comes off... but the war inside never ends? For many veterans, the greatest battle isn't fought on foreign soil—it's the one fought after coming home. The loss of identity, the weight of trauma, broken relationships, addiction, isolation, and the constant search for purpose can leave even the strongest warriors wondering where they belong. Tonight on HomeFront SitRep, hosts Willis and Gunny Deeds welcomes Army combat veteran, speaker, mentor, and founder of Uncivilized Rebirth, Paul B. Miller, for an honest conversation about what it truly means to heal after military service. After serving sixteen years as an Infantryman with multiple combat deployments, Paul found himself facing the same invisible battles that affect thousands of veterans every year. PTSD, chronic pain, alcoholism, anger, and the struggle to reconnect with his family threatened to define the next chapter of his life. Instead of allowing those challenges to become his legacy, he chose a different mission—one focused on rebuilding himself from the inside out. That journey became Uncivilized Rebirth, a movement dedicated to helping veterans, first responders, and anyone carrying unseen wounds rediscover purpose, accountability, emotional strength, and authentic leadership. Throughout this powerful episode, David and Paul explore why so many veterans feel lost after leaving the military, how trauma affects relationships and identity, and why healing requires more than simply "moving on." Together, they discuss the difficult transition from warrior to civilian, the importance of vulnerability among veterans, and how embracing discomfort can become the catalyst for lasting personal growth. The conversation also examines the role of faith, forgiveness, and self-discipline in recovery, while offering practical guidance for veterans who feel trapped by depression, addiction, or the belief that asking for help is a sign of weakness. In this episode, you'll hear about: The mission and philosophy behind Uncivilized Rebirth Transitioning from combat to civilian life Overcoming PTSD, addiction, and emotional isolation Why identity loss affects so many veterans Leadership beyond military service Building stronger marriages and families after service Developing resilience through accountability and purpose The importance of vulnerability within the veteran community Practical tools for beginning the healing process Finding hope when life feels directionless This isn't simply a conversation about surviving military service—it's about learning how to truly live afterward. Whether you're a veteran, active-duty service member, first responder, military spouse, or someone who loves and supports those who have served, this episode offers powerful insights into recovery, resilience, and the lifelong journey of becoming the person you were meant to be. Because healing doesn't erase the warrior. It helps the warrior become whole again. HomeFront SitRep is dedicated to telling the stories of veterans, military families, and organizations making a difference in the military community—one conversation at a time.

From the Caribbean to the Battlefields of Europe: Two Journeys, One Conversation

Not every mission begins with a deployment, and not every lesson comes from a battlefield. This week on HomeFront SitRep, David Willis and Gunny Samuel Deeds trade the microphones for passports as they share two unforgettable journeys that couldn't have been more different—yet both left a lasting impact. David takes listeners aboard the Carnival Liberty for a family adventure through the Western Caribbean, visiting the vibrant island of Cozumel, Mexico, the rich culture and tropical beauty of Belize, and the breathtaking shores of Roatán, Honduras. From exploring ancient ports and crystal-clear waters to spending priceless time with family, David reflects on what it means to slow down, reconnect, and appreciate the moments that often pass us by. Meanwhile, Gunny embarks on a journey every veteran dreams of making. Traveling through France, Normandy, and Germany, Gunny walks the same ground where history was written by the Greatest Generation. From the windswept beaches of Normandy where Allied forces fought to liberate Europe, to the cemeteries, memorials, museums, and historic battle sites that preserve the legacy of World War II, Gunny shares the emotional experience of standing where courage, sacrifice, and freedom collided. Together, David and Gunny compare two very different adventures—one centered on family, relaxation, and making memories, the other rooted in remembrance, history, and honoring those who came before us. Throughout the episode they discuss: Family vacations and why veterans sometimes need permission to simply unplug. The unforgettable ports of Cozumel, Belize, and Roatán. Life aboard the Carnival Liberty and what surprised them most about cruising. Walking the beaches of Normandy and experiencing history firsthand. The powerful emotions of visiting military cemeteries and memorials. Exploring France and Germany through the lens of military history. Why every American—especially veterans—should visit these historic places at least once. The importance of preserving history so future generations never forget the sacrifices that secured our freedom. Sometimes the best stories aren't about current events or politics. Sometimes they're about family, friendship, reflection, and remembering where we've been so we better understand where we're going. Whether you're dreaming of your next vacation, fascinated by military history, or simply enjoy hearing two Marines swap stories from opposite sides of the Atlantic, this episode offers humor, perspective, and heartfelt conversation that reminds us all why experiences—not possessions—become our greatest treasures. Join David Willis and Gunny Samuel Deeds for an episode filled with laughter, reflection, history, and unforgettable memories—from the turquoise waters of the Caribbean to the hallowed ground of Normandy.

    The Strength Behind The Uniform

When Americans think about military service, they often picture the service member wearing the uniform, standing watch, deploying overseas, or answering the call to defend the nation. What is often overlooked are the spouses and families who stand beside them—carrying their own burdens, making their own sacrifices, and serving in ways that rarely receive recognition. Tonight on HomeFront SitRep, host David Willis sits down with military spouse advocate, speaker, author, and founder of Burton Collective Allison Burton for an eye-opening conversation about the realities of life on the home front. Military spouses are often expected to be resilient, adaptable, and self-sufficient. They navigate deployments, frequent relocations, career disruptions, financial uncertainty, childcare challenges, and the emotional toll of supporting a loved one whose profession carries unique risks and demands. Yet many of these struggles remain largely invisible to the public. Allison has made it her mission to tell the stories that often go unheard. Drawing from her own experiences as a military spouse, she has become a powerful advocate for military families, challenging outdated perceptions and pushing for greater awareness of the sacrifices made by spouses and children. Through candid conversations, writing, and public speaking, she is helping bridge the gap between military communities and the civilians who may never fully understand what military life requires. In this powerful episode, Allison shares her personal journey and discusses how military life affects every member of the family—not just the individual wearing the uniform. Together, David and Allison explore: The Hidden Costs of Service Military service extends far beyond deployments and duty stations. Families often bear significant emotional, professional, and financial costs that are rarely discussed. Allison breaks down the realities behind the military lifestyle and explains why family readiness is critical to mission readiness. Military Spouse Employment Challenges One of the most persistent issues facing military spouses is maintaining a career while moving every few years. Allison discusses the impact frequent relocations have on employment opportunities, professional development, licensing requirements, and long-term financial stability. The Emotional Weight of Deployments While service members deploy to dangerous and demanding environments, spouses often become the sole support system at home. Allison shares insights into the emotional challenges military spouses face before, during, and after deployments, and how families adapt through uncertainty and separation. Raising Children in a Military Family Military children experience a unique childhood marked by frequent moves, changing schools, parental absences, and constant transitions. Allison discusses the resilience military children develop and the support systems they need to thrive. Mental Health and Family Resilience Military families often carry stress, anxiety, grief, and uncertainty in silence. Allison discusses the importance of mental health awareness, community support, and creating safe spaces for military spouses to seek help without stigma. Why Military Spouse Voices Matter For too long, military spouse experiences have been viewed as secondary to military service. Allison explains why including spouse perspectives in policy discussions, veteran advocacy, and military support programs is essential for creating lasting change. Silent Ranks, Loud Burdens Allison offers a glimpse into her upcoming book, Silent Ranks, Loud Burdens, which explores the untold stories of military spouses and the challenges they face while supporting those who serve. The book seeks to give voice to a community that often sacrifices quietly while carrying tremendous responsibility. Building Stronger Military Communities The conversation also focuses on practical solutions, including community engagement, peer support networks, mentorship programs, and policy improvements that can better support military families throughout every stage of military life. Why This Conversation Matters Military spouses are often referred to as the backbone of military families, but that title comes with immense responsibility. Behind every deployment, training exercise, PCS move, and military mission is a spouse holding the family together through uncertainty, change, and sacrifice. This episode reminds us that service is rarely an individual endeavor. The sacrifices made by military spouses and families deserve recognition, respect, and support. Their stories matter. Their voices matter. And their experiences provide valuable insight into the true cost of military service.Ask

Healing Veterans One Paw at a Time

On this powerful episode of HomeFront SitRep, David Willis and Gunny Samuel Deeds sit down with the founder of Isaac Loves His Hooman (ILHH), a nonprofit organization whose mission was born from an unlikely rescue that ultimately changed two lives forever. The story begins in January of 2018 when a dog named Isaac was returned to what was supposed to be his forever home due to severe food allergies. Through a series of events that seemed destined to happen, Isaac was placed into the care of an honorably discharged United States Marine Corps veteran who was facing his own battles with clinical depression and the invisible wounds that many veterans carry long after military service ends. What happened next would become the foundation for a movement. As Isaac recovered physically, his new hooman began healing emotionally. The bond that developed between them revealed the incredible power that service dogs can have in the lives of veterans and first responders struggling with depression, PTSD, anxiety, addiction, loneliness, self-harm, and suicidal thoughts. Recognizing that countless others were facing the same challenges, the pair launched Isaac Loves His Hooman, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to bringing help, hope, and healing to those who have spent their lives serving others. Today, the organization works to provide service dog placement, mental health awareness, education, treatment support, and recovery resources for veterans and first responders across the nation. During this conversation, we'll dive deep into: • The incredible story of Isaac and the Marine veteran who found healing through an unexpected friendship • The founding and growth of Isaac Loves His Hooman • Why service dogs are so effective in helping veterans and first responders combat PTSD, anxiety, depression, and isolation • The science behind the human-animal bond • The challenges of mental health stigma within military and first responder communities • Success stories that demonstrate the life-changing impact of service dog partnerships • The process of training and placing service dogs • How communities can help support veterans who are struggling in silence • The future vision for Isaac Loves His Hooman This episode is a reminder that healing doesn't always come from a prescription, a therapy session, or a support group. Sometimes healing arrives on four legs. Join us for an inspiring conversation about resilience, recovery, second chances, and the extraordinary connection between humans and dogs that continues to save lives every day. Because no veteran should fight alone. HOMEFRONT SITREP Real Veterans. Real Stories. Real Conversations.
