Why Jameela Jamil Had To Explain Her Sexuality

Why Jameela Jamil Had To Explain Her Sexuality

In her documentary Miss Americana, Taylor Swift talks openly about her struggle with an eating disorder. That inspired writer Anne Helen Petersen to write an article on how unhealthy relationships with food can hide in plain sight. We ask, is it OK to tell someone that they have an eating disorder?

Also, today we answer a group therapy question posted by one of our listeners. Is it OK for teenage or tween girls to sleep in their male cousin’s room?

Plus, actress Jameela Jamil recently came out as queer on Twitter after she was announced as a judge on a TV vouging competition. Why is it still hard to come out and announce your sexuality? And what does it mean to be Queer in 2020?

    Meet Nick

    Meet Nick

    Hey Outlouders!

It’s Holly dropping in your ears to tell you about our exciting dating podcast, Eligible.

We all know that dating apps can be deceiving. You’re swiping left and right at someone’s picture but you actually don’t know what the person is really like.

That’s why we came up with the idea of getting to know the person by hearing their voice before you see their picture.

This is the very first episode of Eligible and we’re kicking off the world’s first podcast dating show with our first single, Nick.

Here's a little bit about him...

    Age: 26

    Occupation: Primary school teacher

Top three things he wants from a relationship: Intimacy, fun, holidays

How he describes himself:  Genuine, deep thinking, relaxed, empathetic

    Best quality: Kind

    Worst quality: Stubborn

What he hopes to get out of this experience: I hope to meet people that have a genuine interest in what they’ve heard about me and are open to a meaningful connection.

If you’d like to get to know Nick better, head to www.mamamia.com.au/eligible, enter the code word you heard in the episode and you'll get access to Nick’s details and photo.

This episode is brought to you by Fantastic Furniture, the perfect place to find the heart of your home.

    HOW DOES THE SHOW WORK?

Every Friday our host, Rachel Corbett, sits down with an eligible single to have the awkward first date for you so you can get a sense of whether this person is worth your time.  She'll also do the reference checks by calling up a few of the women in the eligible single's life to find out what they're really like.

At the end of each episode, if you like what you hear, we'll give you a secret code you can enter at mamamia.com.au/eligible so you can see what your new love interest looks like and how to contact them.

The rest is up to cupid!

Caroline Flack And Who's To Blame

Caroline Flack And Who's To Blame

Mikhaela Peterson recently announced that her father, author Jordan Peterson, who is known for taking issue with political correctness and condemning feminism is recovering from addiction to tranquillisers and a near-death experience. So does the fact that Peterson’s life is not in order, negate all his advice?

Also, “I’m waiting for him to propose” and “I don’t want to pressure him”  are phrases we hear women say in heterosexual relationships. So Facebook’s COO Sheryl Sandberg has asked, why are women still struggling to take charge when it comes to marriage and dating?

Plus, the world is in shock after former Love Island UK host Caroline Flack died by suicide on February 15th. Caroline has been no stranger to the incessant bullying fuelled by tabloid culture, so who is to blame for Caroline’s death?

If you or someone you know is thinking about suicide, get help immediately.  Call Lifeline at 13 11 14.

The Female Sex Scene We Never Thought We'd See

The Female Sex Scene We Never Thought We'd See

In a recent tweet, Bettina Arndt shared a poster from Griffith University’s dating manual which highlights a person’s right to say no to sex. In her words, she claimed that the manual encourages women to be “uncaring demanding bitches”. Despite her undisputed anti-feminist sentiment, the tweet made us ask, is Griffith University’s dating manual more partial towards women?

Also, vulvas and orgasms on Gwyneth Paltrow’s third episode of the Netflix series ‘the goop lab’ has got us all wondering, is female sexuality witnessing a big cultural moment?

Plus, our Quicky producer Melanie Tait tweeted a post asking, is it silly to gift a mum a facial or massage without organising for someone to look after her kids? We discuss.

Weinstein’s Lawyer Just Told Us What She Really Thinks

Weinstein’s Lawyer Just Told Us What She Really Thinks

Not surprisingly, the ratings for this year’s Academy Awards were at an all-time low. Joaquin Phoenix’s veganism speech felt a tad bit preachy to some and we’re asking, why is it that almost every Oscar acceptance speech has to adopt some sort of a political or ‘woke’ tone to make it memorable?

Also, more than 90 women have accused Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault. Donna Rotunno is Harvey’s female defense lawyer and her interview with the New York Times's Meghan Toohey has got everyone (including us) talking. What lies in the mind of Weinstein’s female defender?

Plus, an ad was banned from screening during the Oscars that showed the reality of what happens to a woman’s body after she has a baby. Was it really all that shocking? We discuss.
