The AI–HPC Revolution in Engineering: How Europe is Building the Digital Factories of the Future

In this episode, host Sophia Honisch from EXCELLERAT P2 speaks with Bastian Koller, Managing Director of the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS) and coordinator of HammerHAI, Germany’s first AI Factory for manufacturing and engineering. Together, they explore how AI and HPC are converging to shape Europe’s industrial future, why manufacturing and engineering are ideal testing grounds for applied AI, and how Europe’s network of AI factories is fostering collaboration, trust, and innovation across the continent. The conversation also touches on the cultural and organizational shifts needed to make advanced computing more accessible to industry, and on the importance of shared success stories to demonstrate the impact of Europe’s investments in digital innovation.
