    20. The Inspiration of Romance through the Devotion to Life. The Sufi Movement and the Bhakti Movement.

The history of the Sufi Movement and how it has influenced modern poetry and concepts of romance is better explained by Filip here on Youtube: https://youtu.be/WQirjcT7ENs.   The Short Version of the Sufi tradition is philosophers, mystics, teachers and Saints that originated in Bagdad in the roots of Islam and then later travelled to India to mix with devotees of Hindu and Buddhist traditions and taught that the rules of religion were not the path to god or happiness.    The path of looking at the self and your inner world was the path to a closer relationship with the divine and true love.   They used music, poetry, song, dance, chanting and teachings of the oneness of humanity, brotherhood, kindness and connection of humans to their environment, the stars and the earth.   In Sydney I'll be sharing a Sufi Movement Workshop starting July 15 2022: https://classbento.com.au/sufi-movement-workshop-sydney  Famous Sufi poets and writers such as Rumi have influenced the medieval and renaissance poets and writers such as Shakespeare and modern-day artists such as Beyonce who named her daughter after Rumi.    The romance in the music and the poets of the Sufi go beyond the idea of being romantically inspired by one person.  The romance is with life itself.   One of my favorite poets is Kabir who was not just a Sufi he is also considered a Yogi and Saint who was and is revered by Hindus, Sikhs and Muslims.   Kabir is known as being responsible for the Bhakti movement in India, which is singing and creating poetry full of devotion that inspires romance and deep feelings with the speaker and the listener and brings people to a deep connection to their heart.   Check out some poetry by Kabir: https://www.poetry-chaikhana.com/Poets/K/Kabir/Mybodyisfloo/index.html   My body is flooded by Kabir  (English version by Andrew Harvey) Original Language Hindi   My body is flooded  With the flame of Love.  My soul lives in  A furnace of bliss.   Love's fragrance  Fills my mouth,  And fans through all things  With each outbreath.

    18. Finding Love through Death

What does it mean to lose someone when they die and how does that changes our relationship to love? Over the years, I've had many people share with me the strange wonderful sad and miraculous passing over of their loved ones. Maybe you have a story to share. I will share the phenomena of seeing things while people are passing over, a bit from my experience and also research on the phenomena of near-death and deathbed experiences of the other side. Death is actually the biggest reminder of what we do value, how we love those who are close to us and how when the body dies, we are still deeply connected to those we incarnated with. Maybe you also have some 'contact' with the other realms with loved ones being close to you. How can this show us that what we deeply desire is a deeper connection to each other - and a deep need to be with those we love and connected to their betterment - even when they are no longer alive. If you want to hear more about my near-death experience you can have a look here https://youtu.be/oGYcfxjhTsM?t=1695 I share my journey with Sydney’s Interfaith group led by Siva and Vasantha Peri Also in our podcast Patti and I have 2 episodes when I was still in recovery from cancer – and really just trying to process the experience you can hear the episode here: https://anchor.fm/bbr-at-home-and-work/episodes/Episode-12---Angelas-Journey-Back-to-Life---A-Life-Worth-Living---Part-1---The-Message--What-are-you-doing-here-ebl9t0/a-a1isi4s Resources on Death and Near-Death Experiences: Dr Peter Fenwick

    17. Natural Love and love of Nature. Are Humans "naturally loving"?

What is in our nature that makes us love naturally? If you have a child, they are naturally loving. Not always accepting or tolerating. But always loving. And then as we age, we lost that natural love of the world and life. Why? Recently I found a beautiful youtube channel where kids in trauma used music and dance to celebrate life and they now make an income from the channel to support their lives. You can see the Masaka Kids here: https://youtu.be/TH4V-yHbJXk Watching their videos, I feel life and I am happy. We have lost our connection to nature as a human species, and as a result, we have trauma, we have rising air pollution which is killing us, we have oceans filled with waste that kills other life and we are on a trajectory to the end of the human species because we have become the diseased peoples of the earth. Today, I'm going to look at natural love and how to reconnect to love in the self as a natural gift, when we connect to nature, and forget about the ideas of what humanity is, and reconnect to our initial role as a species that honored all life, animal, plants, microbes, fungi, bacteria that are our ancestors and the ecosystems of the planet that allow our earth to breathe and the natural kingdom that allows life to be possible at all. PS I've discovered this really cool Virologist Dr Zach Bush who shares how when we see the bigger picture of all life that allows us to exist on the earth - we can start to approach disease from an enlightened perspective. Check out Dr Zach Bush out here on the "VIROME" - how viruses are part of our evolution as a mammal and not an enemy, and instead a call to start looking at how we are part of the ecosystem of all life on earth. https://youtu.be/TEb33U0hHxM If you are in Sydney and want to explore your natural love through movement, join me here: Dance for Joy and learn Sufi Movement https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/347203935317

    16. Body Love. How do you build safety, trust and acceptance in our body in these times.

I wrote the Body of Love in 2012 to introduce movement-based and self-connection exercises to help people feel love and acceptance in their bodies. http://amzn.to/2o28JFB Now when there is more technology we are losing real connection in our bodies and becoming shaped by technology's impact on our bodies which is obvious from the increase in lack of attention, inability to focus, and general anxiety and sense of disconnectedness. In this podcast, I share 4 things we need to contemplate to start a better relationship with our bodies in these times. 1. Learning how to feel inside the body to stop giving our attention to the external way of perceiving the body. And building the skills required to feel deeper inside our body as a solution to the excessive focus on how our society makes us think we should look and looking at the body through the screen images. 2. How we can't regulate and legislate appropriate ways to respect the body if we don't help people and children to feel internally in their body because this will simply be more of a mind control measure of the body, which doesn't encourage the ability to feel and flow with who we are and who we are becoming. 3. The power of touch as a way to reclaim your connection to your body and the feelings of love that allow you to feel connection. Touch offers a deep connection that is a supportive and nurturing gift of the body. 4. How saying that you "love yourself" is not enough to manage the deprivation of human contact and human connection and touch when we are dealing with isolation or disconnection from each other. And how can we build social contact that brings us back into our humanity. The body is a gift - so let's learn what we can build through loving the gift of our body.
