Episode 62: Julia Sheehan -- Rocket on the trail! Long distance backpacker
Ever dream of quitting your job and wandering off into the forest? Then you will love hearing Julia's story of what led her to do exactly that, and how she continues to be a full time long distance backpacker.
Julia, aka Rocket, is on the trail right now, backpacking the Continental Divide, and I was lucky enough to sit down with her a few days before she left.
Julia is a full time adventure lover and long distance backpacker. She started her journey over 2 years ago when she quit her job and sold all of her belongings and hiked the entire Appalachian trail. Before that she struggled with finding her happiness and after working as a nurse she realized that everyday is a blessing. She has since hiked over 3000 miles and has many more planned. She has struggled with her mental health since childhood and has found nothing more cathartic and healing than long distance backpacking.
If you are curious about getting started on any outdoor adventure, Julia offers plenty of encouragement, practical advice, and resources. We all walk our own path in life, and what a pleasure to spend time with someone who is so passionately walking the life that works best for her.

Episode 60: Amber Petty, Writer and Entrepreneur
I am joined today by the fabulous Amber Petty, who shares a plethora of wisdom with us. A freelance writer and entrepreneur, Amber speaks to finding creative satisfaction outside of traditional means.
After spending 13 years in New York as an actor, Amber got tired of waiting around for auditions and started freelance writing. Six years later, she's written for the New York Times, Thrillist, Greatist, Parade, MTV.com, Bustle, and even Snooki's blog. In her Freelance Writing for Actors & Creatives class, she's helped students go from no previous experience to bylines in Business Insider, Huffington Post, Thrillist, Eater, and more.
We talk about the internal shift she went through with transitioning from an actor to a freelance writer, and what helped her to move forward through a difficult time. She mentions more than once the importance of establishing areas of our lives and creativity that are within our control to help propel us forward.
Amber also shares some hilarious and inspiring moments from her time in NYC as an actor and in performing with The Upright Citizen’s Brigade. She drops pearls of wisdom on what it means to really live your dream, and how to take a look at if the current lifestyle you’re living matches up to the dream you’ve imagined.
Amber is a real gem; I am clearly a fan! If you are a creative person trying to find your way, this episode is for you. You are not alone in your struggles and dreams, girl, we are right there with you!

Episode 59: Lori Brookes, author of "The Unintended Positive Consequences of Hiking"
Join me for a sweet and lively discussion with author and self proclaimed woman with moxie, Lori Brooks.
Lori is an accomplished/published writer and photographer, and was not a hiker prior to the journey she outlines in her book. Lori published her first memoir in February 2020. Her memoir covers a landmark and poignant slice of time in her life. On the edge of her 59th birthday Lori experienced an awakening on a solo hike in Death Valley National Park, which led to a divinely gifted idea of hiking her way to her 60th birthday, with no other agenda than to transform her health. It became known as the Sixty60 Journey, 60 hikes to 60 years. What actually transpired in that year and beyond is what she calls her "Unintended Positive Consequences of Hiking" also the title of her memoir.
Lori shares many aspects of her story with me, from comical to grief laden experiences, in our talk together. She offers practical advice for anyone looking to transform their health or try something new and adventurous.
Enjoy this episode and hopefully we will see you on the trail!
