What constitutes why some missing persons cases get attention? What are the criteria for a case making national news? And why doesn’t EVERY case receive the same coverage?

In our final episode of the series we explore the issue of equality - and ask whether your background or the colour of your skin can influence how your case is reported and investigated.

At a time when the subject of race and equality is being discussed in relation to missing persons, we shine a light on why some cases fade into the background, and ask what can be done to make a change.

    Georgina Gharsallah

When someone goes missing, it’s often the ‘last sighting’ which is used to try and ascertain why they went, where they went, and what happened to them. But in this case, exactly what IS the last sighting is a part of the debate.

Georgina Gharsallah has been missing since 2018 – a young mum who had endured some challenging times – but who had little reason to disappear. The days leading up to her disappearance were chaotic. And the last sighting on the morning gave no clue to where she went. But a second potential sighting, uncovered over a year later, poses a host of new questions.

So why DID Georgina disappear? Where could she have gone? And who was responsible? The latest episode of The Missing hears from Georgina’s mum Andrea, and explores her life, the days before her disappearance, and the theories around what happened next.

    Allan Bryant

    Allan Bryant

This story is the all-too-frequent tale of a tragedy following a night out. Allan Bryant was a young lad enjoying what should have been a night of frivolity, an engagement party, and then a trip to the local nightclub. But when Allan didn’t return home, it soon became clear his night out had ended prematurely.

This episode hears from Allan’s dad, also called Allan, and examines the many theories that swirl around the case. Had Allan come to harm outside the nightclub? Had he been involved in an accident on his walk home? Or had something more sinister taken place? Allan Senior believes people in the community know what happened, and her urges them to speak up.
