Welcome to Uncommon Courage, the podcast, where we’ll be having the conversations we need to be having as members of the human collective. We are all being called upon to step up and lead – with kindness, big hearts and unshakable courage – because right now, we have an opportunity to redress what we got wrong in the past, as well as deal with the disruptions we face today, to create a better world for all. However, if we are completely truthful, the biggest challenge we face is believing we can do it – believing in our ability to create massive change. But everyone knows you can’t achieve anything significant without guts, determination, and of course, the courage to keep driving towards the goal, regardless of how hard the journey is! Uncommon Courage will feature global conversations determined to contribute to creating a better future for all life on earth. Ideas, solutions, arguments and laughs - it’ll all be part of the journey. It is time for that which is uncommon to become common.

Is it time to take a pause?

Is it time to take a pause?

Delighted to introduce you to Kevin Cottam, The Global Nomad. He’s the author of ‘The Nomadic Mindset: Never Settle...for Too Long’ and right now, he wants to encourage us all to take the time to pause, but it’s not a simple pause, it’s deeper and much more powerful.
We are all going through extremely challenging times and one of the areas we need to be focused on (I believe) is our mental health and resilience. We need to get prepared for the challenging years ahead, or the era of the polycrisis, as the World Economic Forum reported.

From Kevin’s experiences with three nomadic tribes around the world, he has learnt the importance of slowing down so we can speed up, how to be expansive in our thinking, as well as the importance of acting narrowly. So much wisdom here. Enjoy and remember to pause.

Why cognitive development is a critical focus for education and society

Why cognitive development is a critical focus for education and society

Barbara Arrowsmith-Young is the author of “The Woman Who Changed Her Brain.” When I read this book a few years ago, I knew it was the answer to some challenges we were experiencing with one of our sons. After many years of struggling to find the right answer, it has been amazing and completely transformed his life, and by default, ours too.

Barbara has been touring the world for decades, talking about the brain, neuroplasticity, and she never tires of prioritizing the message about the importance of cognitive functioning. Her vision is to put the Brain in the Education Equation.

Her work begun in 1978 and is recognized as one of the first examples of the practical application of neuroplasticity to address learning difficulties. Since then, its application has expanded to address those dealing with traumatic brain injury, addiction, cognitive decline with aging and those who want to enhance performance.

We covered many things, including a look at Barbara’s life, including when she understood she had a challenge with her own brain, as well as the limited possibilities placed on her from a very young age by educators.  The realms of research created since this program started, showing the incredible results possible and there’s so much more to uncover. As well as where Covid fits into the mix, with neurological damage one of the findings gaining more and more attention since the beginning of the pandemic.

The Know Show – a look back at the year 2022

The Know Show – a look back at the year 2022

It’s our last show for the year, so come and join us as we look back at all that has happened. From the celebrity moments, to war, to crypto blowouts, to crazy politics, to the climate emergency, and more, 2022 has been a year that has spun us all around and turned us upside down. However, while it might look like it’s all bad, there has been plenty of good news and hope in the mix too.
We are thrilled that Karen Leong will be joining us again, as Tim Wade continues to enjoy his time with family in Europe. Karen works with corporations to build high trust, high performance cultures. A Business APAC Visionary Woman Leader awardee, she is an author, trainer, professional speaker, and she isn’t afraid to talk about the issues that matter in the world today.
We are also delighted that Roshini Ganesan has accepted our invitation to join the conversation. For more than 20 years, Roshini has been empowering people to dive-in and embrace the change needed to create better versions of themselves. She helps people understand how they can change to become effective and engaging presenters and communicators, or positive and optimistic people who others want on their team, or as confident and trustworthy leaders’ others are ready to follow. She’s a great lady and we’re so happy she’ll be joining us.
Lots going on, lots to discuss, it’s been a big year, come and join us.
The Know Show is a Livestream held every fortnight on Friday, where Andrea T Edwards, Tim Wade and Joe Augustin, and at least one special guest, review the news that’s getting everyone’s attention, as well as perhaps what requires our attention. We’ll talk about what it means to us, the world and we hope to inspire great conversations on the news that matters in the world today.
The Know Show is based on Andrea T Edwards Weekend Reads, which are published every Saturday on andreatedwards.com, and covers the climate crisis, topical moments in the world, global politics, business, social issues, and passion/humor/history. Join us.

Climate Courage: step up, speak up, show up

Climate Courage: step up, speak up, show up

We are facing multiple planetary crises’ from climate change, to biodiversity loss, ecosystem collapse, rising pollution, mass migration, rising emissions, new pandemics, governments unwilling or incapable of calling an emergency, business as usual everywhere we look, and so much more. Is it any wonder people are feeling hopeless and desperate in the face of these serious threats? I mean, it doesn’t look like we’re doing anything about it at all!
The idea that we have no voice in this fight, no ability to overcome the challenges we face, is a big issue we want to tackle. Because at this stage in the game, it is us - ALL of us - that really can get governments and businesses acting like our world is on fire, because it is.

Of course, it takes courage to speak up and we are going to address the challenges, as well as many other issues that stop people from speaking out in defence of our future, and the future of our planet.

To help me dig into this incredibly important topic, I am delighted to welcome three amazing individuals.

Anjali Sharma is about to publish her new book “Strategic Storytelling” and she is a master in this field. Anjali’s professional focus has been all about helping people steer their success with storytelling. She’s a consultant, Fortune 500 speaker, Hachette author, TEDx Coach and an official LinkedIn Creator.

Julian Mather, author of “Press the Red Button: How to show up on video and win more trust, more authority, more clients.” Julian is a storyteller, a master of video, a professional speaker, trainer and in a former life, he worked behind the camera for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). He is always magical.

Joanne Flinn, author of “Green Site, the sustainability handbook for company directors.” Joanne works on critical challenges facing the C Suite, integrating environment and sustainability into organisations and results. She facilitates strategy alignment to profit, and sustainability goals, advises boards on green governance and enables necessary mindset shifts required for a sustainable future.

Climate Courage is a fortnightly Livestream and podcast published on Uncommon Courage, where we will go big picture on the climate crisis and focus on the actions you and I can take to be part of the solution. Whether individual action, community action, or national/global action - every single one of us can be part of ensuring a live-able future for our children and grandchildren. We owe them that!

The Know Show – are human rights negotiable?

The Know Show – are human rights negotiable?

Welcome to the Know Show. Our screens are full of football (or soccer) mayhem, however, there has been a lot of news beyond the upsets, especially in regard to human rights. Whether it’s focusing on the treatment of migrant workers who built the World Cup venue or LGBTQIA+ rights, there has also been a big focus on the leadership failures at FIFA, as well as questions on the decision to hold the event in Qatar in the first place.
On our show, we like to look at all the layers and angles to news stories, because nothing is ever straight forward, and there is a point of view we are not getting outside the Middle East, and that, of course, is the perspective of its citizens. Regardless, it leaves us wondering – are human rights negotiable?
We are thrilled that Bavani Periasamy has agreed to join us this week, hot off the back of the Malaysian Elections. Bavani is a gratitude advocate, who helps leaders build an appreciative work culture to improve productivity.
We’re also happy that Grant 'The Beat' Bosnick will be joining us again in Tim Wade’s absence, as Tim is enjoying a long overdue family reunion in the UK.
Lots going on, lots to discuss, come and join us.

Climate Courage: why raising human consciousness is critical

Climate Courage: why raising human consciousness is critical

In 1985, Carl Sagan testified before Congress on climate change. He clearly explained the issue and the risks, however, one comment towards the end captured my imagination. He finishes his speech with: what is essential for this problem is a global consciousness. A view that transcends our exclusive identifications with the generational and political groupings into which - by accident - we have been born.
He finishes with: the solution to these problems requires a perspective that embraces the planet and the future, because we are all in the greenhouse together.
He was so right and yet; we haven’t made any movement in this direction at all. In fact, in the last decade, we seem to be splintering apart. But there are pockets of hope around the world and those pockets seem to be getting deeper.
So, what does consciousness really mean? How can we understand and embrace it? There’s a lot of information on it, some of it too extreme for the average person to take on board, but the simplest definition is: it’s the state of being aware of and responsive to one's surroundings.
Joined by my co-host Samantha Gayfer, we have two very special guests to help us understand what consciousness is and how we can create ripples around the world and drive the change needed to overcome the enormous challenges we face.
First up is Yana Fry. Yana helps conscious leaders to realise their full potential. She is an impact coach, global speaker, wellness retreats facilitator, community leader, host of timeless teachings and YanaTV, and she is also an author and poetess.
Our second guest is Sandeep Nath. Sandeep is the founder of RENEWALism, which applies ancient oriental wisdom to reduce stress and raise wellbeing. He is also an expert in productivity and leadership development, an author and professional speaker, and an inner power, energy and mindfulness coach.
Sounds amazing right? Come and join us. We are going live a couple of hours later to suit the time zones of all the speakers.
