A Conversation With The Fastest 13Yr In The WORLD: The Story Of Erik Semling - Future Olympian

A Conversation With The Fastest 13Yr In The WORLD: The Story Of Erik Semling - Future Olympian

Today on the podcast is the youngest guest in the history of The Running Effect Podcast.

His name is Erik Semling. He's in 8th grade and 13 years old from the state of Minnesota. As an 8th grader this past Fall, he placed 6th at his HIGH SCHOOL (yes, you read that right) State Meet.

Erik has run 15:09 in the 5k, which is an unofficial age group world record, and 31:17 in the 10k, which is an official age group world record. Again, this kid is only 13. In 2022 he became the AAU Indoor 3000m National Champion and has only improved since then.

In today's conversation, Erik takes me through his start in the sport, setting world records, an in-depth look at his training, his ambitions in sport, handling hate, and so much more!

I was quite frankly shocked with how articulate Erik was as an 8th grader. This episode was awesome, and I have no doubt will inspire you to chase after your goals all the more!

Jackson Heidesch Opens Up On The Dark Side Of NCAA Running, Reflecting On Breaking 4 Minutes In The Mile, & Growing Up With Caitlin Clark

THE KING OF IOWA RETURNS TO THE PODCAST

After his Freshman year at Duke, Jackson Heidesch sits down with me to recap his past year of ups and downs.

In high school, Jackson was the most accomplished track athlete to ever come out of the University of Iowa. If you've been living under a rock the past year, let me refresh you. Jackson ran 3:59.08 in the mile in high school to become the 10th fastest boy in history at the distance. He's also run 8:42 in the 2-mile, won a National Championship, and is undefeated against Himeon Birnbaum on the grass.

Today's conversation is two friends catching up and chopping it up for an hour on a plethora of subjects. We reflect on Jackson's historic year last year, his thoughts on the class of 2024, his transition to college, how he's handled many setbacks, his ambitions for the coming months, and so so much more.

That's about it. We probably shouldn't have released this one, but we did... Tap in.
