Episode #14: Harley Built an Electric Motorcycle… and Almost Nobody Knew

Harley-Davidson built a real electric motorcycle — and somehow most people still barely knew it existed. We got our hands on a Harley-Davidson LiveWire, specifically an early numbered First Strike edition, and took it out to see whether it felt like a real motorcycle or just another EV experiment with handlebars. Turns out, it’s quick. Very quick. Around liter-bike territory quick. It handles well, has a surprisingly good throttle curve, DC fast charging, a familiar charge-port placement where the fuel cap would be, and even Harley’s little “heartbeat” feedback so you know the bike is on and ready. It is not perfect. The riding position is more sport-bike than cruiser, range still matters if you ride with gas-bike groups, and the price was not exactly bargain-bin friendly. But as an electric motorcycle? Harley did a lot more right than people gave them credit for. In this video, we cover: What the LiveWire feels like on the roadAcceleration, handling, weight, and riding positionWhy the throttle curve matters without a clutchThe “heartbeat” feature at stopsDC fast charging and real-world range concernsUsed pricing vs original MSRPWhy this bike deserved more attentionThanks to Lawless Harley-Davidson in Scott City for letting us take it out.
