'On The Record... With MAH' is a student led podcast for the Sussex University school of Media, Arts and Humanities. With the podcast, we aim to foster a sense of community through creating a space for students to express any and all of their interests and ideas, as well as engage with current events and community issues.     34: LGBTQ+ Series Part 2: Sarah Hegazi and Oppression

    Welcome back to ‘On the Record … with MAH’ – the student-led podcast by the School of Media, Arts and Humanities at the University of Sussex. In part two of this series, in this episode, we discuss the political and economic oppression inflicted on the LGBTQ+ community, particularly in Egypt. In the case of Sarah Hegazi; an Egyptian human rights activist who committed suicide whilst in exile in Canada on 14.6.2020. She claimed asylum there after being arrested, detained & tortured for raising the LGBTQ+ flag at a concert in Cairo 2017. We discuss the upcoming anniversary of the Egyptian LGBTQ+ activist and celebrate her legacy with a close friend of hers, Sara Alshief along with Isobel Elrick.
