Episode 142 Laura Kempton Part 1 of 2 Vivacious, fun-loving, and popular twenty-three year old Laura Kempton was a fixture in the downtown Portsmouth, New Hampshire social scene in 1981. On the night of Sunday, September 27 th , she was seen out late at a local club with a girlfriend. And then she went home, alone. Sometime in the wee hours, someone broke a panel out of her front door, entered her apartment, and raped and killed Laura. Her vicious slaying shocked the small city, and police had their hands full with a complex investigation trying to ferret out the killer among all the people Laura knew. And then, a year later, it happened again. Tammy Little’s murder bore undeniable similarities to Laura’s, and both remained unsolved for decades. Now, we have a resolution in Laura’s case, thanks to IGG. Whether Tammy was indeed killed by the same person remains to be seen.

Deanna Merryfield

Episode 105 Deanna Merryfield On the night of July 21, 1990, thirteen year old Deanna Merryfield spent much of the night watching movies with her grandmother in Killeen, Texas. After her grandmother went to bed, Deanna snuck out of the house, and at 3:30am, went to see her sister Rebecca who lived with their uncle nearby. Deanna knocked on Rebecca's window and the sisters briefly talked before their uncle woke up and told Deanna that she needed to leave. Deanna had been driven to the house by two men in a Brown or Bronze four door car that Rebecca did not recognize. Deanna left with the two men who were thought to be either Caucasian or Hispanic, and after that, she vanished. Hours later, Deanna's grandmother realized that she was missing and reported her missing, but because she was suspected to be a run away by police, there was no investigation started. In 1992, Rebecca reportedly received a collect phone call from someone who told the operator that her name was Deanna, but when Rebecca accepted the call, the caller had hung up. The call was traced to Kentucky, where Deanna had family, but none of her relatives there reported seeing Deanna. During the 2000-2002 time period, there was an unconfirmed sighting of Deanna by a relative of hers who claimed to have encountered her, and that Deanna at the time of the sighting had several tattoos. The information provided by this family member may not be credible. At another point over the years, someone contacted police and told them that Deanna had returned home safely. As a result, her case was closed. It was only realized later that the call was to police was inaccurate, and Deanna was still missing, at which point her case was re-opened. Deanna remains missing to this day. In this episode, Deanna's sister Melissa is our guest. At the time of her disappearance, Deanna was described as a White female standing between 5ft and 5ft5, and weighing 108-120 pounds. She had Blonde hair and Hazel eyes. She had a small scar on her upper lip. Deanna if alive today, may or may not have tattoos; including the name “Merryfield” with an unknown date on her neck, a cross with lines on her ankle and a yellow rose with “Texas Born” on her back. There is a DNA sample on file for needed comparisons as per Deanna's NAMUS page Investigators are interested in identifying and speaking to the two young men Deanna was last seen with. At the time of Deanna's disappearance, the men, possibly brothers, were thought to be White or Hispanic, and their names may be Tony and Rudy Longoria. Doe ID 'Rosemount John Doe' James Everett

Episode 69 Doe ID 'Rosemount John Doe' James Everett On September 26,2014, the remains of an unidentified man were found in a decommissioned railroad switching shed located behind American Legion in Rosemount, Minnesota. Although the remains were mostly skeletonized and too decomposed to determine a cause of death, it appeared that he had died of natural causes. Items and belongings found with him were indications to the authorities that the man was possibly homeless, and had died from exposure due to the cold Minnesota winter. He was dubbed 'Rosemount John Doe'. In July 2022, using DNA and forensic genealogy, 'Rosemount John Doe' was identified as James Everett of New York State, who had voluntarily gone missing for reasons unknown in September of the previous year. Why he left his life behind, and how he wound up living in a railroad shed in Rosemount still remain a mystery, but his family and friends are happy to have some closure knowing what happened to him. 'Rosemount John Doe' finally has his name back, it's James Everett, and this is his story. Episode 156 Pam Conyers In one of the oldest cases covered by DNA: ID, in 1970, 16 year old Pam Conyers vanished after an evening trip to the Harundale Mall in Ann Arundel County, MD. There was no question that Pam had run away, and police immediately began a search for the teen. Two days after she left the mall with her purchase, her car was found hidden in brush in a wooded median of a new highway that was being constructed, not far from her home. Soon, her body was found nearby. Pam had been raped and murdered, and dumped in the woods not far from the construction site. Clues discovered at her autopsy and in her car led police to theorize that there were two perpetrators. Whoever they were, they eluded investigators for decades. Finally, when the Parabon genealogist used IGG, she was able to identify a suspect. And then the FBI stepped in an identified another.

In one of the oldest cold case homicides solved by IGG, Mary Schlais’s shocking murder in Dunn County, WI was finally resolved. Way back in 1974, a witness saw the killer disposing of Mary’s bloody body in a snowbank, and the killer dropped something at the scene… and yet, his identity eluded investigators for 50 years. Dunn County investigators never gave up on Mary’s case, and when investigative genetic genealogy came along, they jumped at the opportunity, once and for all, to obtain justice for the bright, multi-lingual, artistic young equestrian who had her whole life ahead of her until it was snatched away with a few thrusts of a knife. Finally, they had a name for the monster who stabbed Mary to death. And what they would hear from him was shocking.

James 'Jimmy' Townsend

Episode 149 James 'Jimmy' Townsend In 1985, 13 year old James 'Jimmy' Townsend was a popular boy in his hometown of Monroe, Louisiana. He was a friendly and gifted athlete who played a variety of sports and excelled at them. By September of that year, Jimmy had become involved in boxing, but that wasnt all that was new for Jimmy. He was also a new father to a baby girl; Kristy. Being a father at 13 was certainly going to be a challenge for Jimmy, but he was ready to take it on. Sadly, he'd never get the chance. On September 28th, 1985, Jimmy along with a couple friends went to a local fair, and while there, they got into an altercation with a group of seven young men and boys, thought to be members of a local gang. Jimmy fought back before he and his friends ran for their lives. Sadly, Jimmy couldn't outrun his attackers, and he was savagely beaten to death. Although police had the accounts of multiple witnesses, and names of suspects, the case was never resolved and remains unresolved to this day. The mother of Jimmy's daughter Kristy wound up giving her up for adoption when she was just eleven months old so she never got to know her father. As she grew up and began to wonder about her roots, Kristy was upset that her father's murder forever changed the outcome of her life. She was determined to get justice for her father, and has helped to re-ignite a fresh look into the case. In this episode, Kristy discusses her father's tragic and violent murder, and how her life was affected by it. Kristy is personally offering a reward of at least $1000 for information that leads to a conviction in her father's case.
