On the Saturday the 27th of October 1984, 76-year-old widow Barbara Pinder was brutally murdered in her own flat on Prince of Wales Drive in Battersea by an unknown man with a lot of hatred for her. One year later, on Saturday 27th of October 1985, 86-year-old widow Henrietta Osbourne was also stabbed and attacked frenziedly in an attack which had similar hallmarks. It went unsolved for two years… then out of the blue, a petty burglar confessed to both murders. Evidence proved it was him, he confessed, he was convicted.     On Easter Monday in 1991, in a quiet village in Kent, a couple spent the evening at home together. It had been a normal day, nothing out of the ordinary. But just after 10pm, a knock at the door shattered that routine. Within minutes, 43-year-old Alan Leppard had been shot dead on his own doorstep in what many would later describe as an execution-style killing. Witnesses reported seeing a mysterious American-style car circling the area, and a stranger had even been asking for Alan by name weeks before his murder. But what followed made this case even more unsettling. Months later, Alan’s partner Brenda Long was found dead in her bath, with early reports suggesting suicide before a coroner ruled her death as unlawful killing. Two deaths, countless unanswered questions, and more than three decades later, no one has ever been brought to justice. Despite the appeals against his release from the families of his victims who feared he wasn't safe to be in the community, Whitelock was released from prison back to live in Swansea. He became an almost Bogeyman, and around the North West of the UK, he has an almost legendary status. But - he was very, very real, and this time around on the Enthusiast, I bring you the tale of a strange individual who had a fetish that you, when you hear about it, would almost make you smirk. Until I tell you, that it was a fetish that led to the loss of at least one life.     Cornwall isn't the sort of place you associate with large scale drug imports from South America, IRA terrorists and murder. But in this episode of the UK True Crime podcast, we hear a story that involved all of these things. When detectives quizzed local farmer Ross Stone about cannabis being grown on his farm, they could never expected that he would reveal that two missing men - Brett Flournoy & David Griffiths were also buried there. But was he responsible for the killings? Back in January 2024, I covered this story, but today I have just heard that one of the key people in the story was found dead in their prison cell last month.
