    The 'Werewolf' Of Tibnin Bridge

    The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, or UNIFIL, has since its establishment in 1978 assisted Lebanese forces along the country's border with Israel to maintain peace, security, and ensure humanitarian access. In it's near five decades in existence, countless soldiers from nations across the world have lost their lives as part of these peacekeeping forces, and it is the Irish Army that holds the distinction, to date, of having the highest toll of casualties, with almost 50 service personnel having lost their lives as a result of enemy fire, unexploded ordnance and transport related incidents. Though every soldier knows and accepts these are very real risks, one October evening back in 1982, three of these Irish soldiers, deployed on peacekeeping duties, lost their lives as a result of something that no soldier ever, or should ever, expect. They lost their lives at the hands of one of their own. He had a strong belief that the drug broadened the mind and could transform society and make it better for all of us. Henry Todd got very much into this scene and then started his own LSD lab, producing huge quantities of the stuff. In the episode of the UK True Crime Podcast, I look at the undercover police operation 'Operation Julie' soon had Henry Todd and others making and selling LSD under surveillance, and how Todd later made the unusual move into high altitude mountaineering. On the Saturday the 27th of October 1984, 76-year-old widow Barbara Pinder was brutally murdered in her own flat on Prince of Wales Drive in Battersea by an unknown man with a lot of hatred for her. One year later, on Saturday 27th of October 1985, 86-year-old widow Henrietta Osbourne was also stabbed and attacked frenziedly in an attack which had similar hallmarks. It went unsolved for two years… then out of the blue, a petty burglar confessed to both murders. Evidence proved it was him, he confessed, he was convicted.
