Venetia La Manna (REPLAY): How To Slow Down

Venetia La Manna (REPLAY): How To Slow Down

This is a replay episode with the brilliant Venetia La Manna, broadcaster, slow fashion campaigner. On her platforms she discusses issues relating to the fast fashion industry and climate crisis. I always learn a lot from her, especially on the topic of how to support garment workers and hold the fashion industry to account. In the first half we talk about her work in the slow fashion space and the second half is about how she ditches her phone at the weekend to enjoy a slower pace, so basically an episode on how to slow down. Enjoy! xo

Rachel DeLoache Williams (REPLAY): The Story of Anna Delvey

Rachel DeLoache Williams (REPLAY): The Story of Anna Delvey

This is a replay episode! My guest today is Rachel DeLoache Williams, Vanity Fair photography editor and now author of My Friend Anna: The True Story Of The Fake Heiress Of New York City (all about her relationship with NYC scammer Anna Delvey. One of TIME magazine's must-read books of 2019. This book is the true story of Anna Delvey through her friend Rachel's eyes, someone you might have read about in the news, the fake heiress whose deceit and elaborate con-artistry deceived the Soho New York scene before her lies were dramatically exposed. This is Rachel's story who is still dealing with the consequences of being so betrayed. The pair met through mutual friends, and became inseparable. But after Anna’s debit card was declined in a Morocco whilst on holiday in a five-star luxury resort, Rachel began to suspect that her increasingly mysterious friend was not all she seemed. This book has been called Catch Me If You Can meets Gossip Girl with Instagram filters. Between Anna Delvey, Fyre Festival’s Billy McFarland (Anna even tried to scam Billy) and Elizabeth Holmes, whose start-up app duped the high and mighty of Silicon Valley, 2019 seems to have be the year of the scammer.Hope you enjoy this interview with Rachel and please do leave a rating or review if you did!Check out the book here: https://uk.bookshop.org/a/153/9781787478305

#366 Julia Cameron (NEW): Navigating Worries, Doubts & Fears

#366 Julia Cameron (NEW): Navigating Worries, Doubts & Fears

My guest today is the wonderful Julia Cameron - again! She is a third time guest on this podcast and that’s because I just love her wisdom so much. She is a huge inspiration of mine when it comes to creativity and wellbeing, and she has a new book out, called Seeking Wisdom: A Spiritual Path to Creative Connection, which is a comforting, brilliant guide to stepping back and finding faith in your creativity again, and yes, in some cases a higher power. In the new book, she recaps on her recovery from alcoholism and addiction, its a deeply personal account of pain, healing and growth, showing the reader how to harness prayer (in whatever form that takes for the individual) to overcome our lives challenges and obstacles, and forge ahead towards becoming the person we are meant to be. It’s inviting and welcoming: she embraces her reader to believe in something again, and you of course don’t have to use the word God if you don't want to, you can use whatever word or concept you like. I also really recommend her memoir Floor Sample which is one of my favourite ever memoirs. So, here is a brand new episode with Julia and I really hope you enjoy it!!

#365 An Interview With Me(!): My New Book Disconnected: LIVE at BookBar

#365 An Interview With Me(!): My New Book Disconnected: LIVE at BookBar

I’m excited to share this episode with you, this time it’s an interview with me! All about my new book Disconnected, which is out TODAY (January 13th 2022). I did an in person event at BookBar in London, a gorgeous independent bookstore that I recommend you visiting if you are ever in the area, and I was interviewed by the founder of the bookstore Chrissy Ryan. It felt amazing to be in person with people again after launching projects on Zoom for so long. We discussed many themes in the book; how to unplug without going cold turkey, why I don’t believe in guilt-trips or intense digital detoxes and why I think there’s a better way to create a healthy distance with your phone. We discuss our Internet selves, how to stay true to who we are online, what an e-personality is, how to slowly step away from society’s productivity obsession, how to realise when your devices are making you anxious and prompts on how to create space for yourself again. So I really hope you enjoy this conversation, and if you’d like to buy the book, in hardback, audio or e-book I have left the links below in the show-notes. Hope you enjoy, and thanks for listening!

Dame Stephanie Shirley (REPLAY): On Learning To Love Change

Dame Stephanie Shirley (REPLAY): On Learning To Love Change

This is a replay of an episode with Dame “Steve” Stephanie Shirley. I recorded this one in 2019, it was a sunny summer’s day in London and we recorded it in a meeting room at Penguin’s offices. Dame Stephanie is tech pioneer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. She also goes by the name "Steve" which she used to sign business letters to potential clients when they were not responding to her. If you haven't already, go and watch her Ted Talk "Do ambitious women have flat heads?" it is funny and moving and super interesting to hear what it was like being a woman in tech during the 60s. In this episode, we talk about her brilliant memoir Let It Go. In this episode we talk about workplace misogyny, making money, resilience, giving back, and why it's important to always keep learning. Hope you enjoy x
