Lag B'Omer Insights: Moshe, Rabbi Akiva and Rabbi Shimon

This week Israel observed the 'minor' holiday of Lag B'Omer - the 33rd day of the Counting of the Omer. What is the story behind this day? Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman reflect on the history of the great sage Rabbi Akiva and his student Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, who rebelled against Roman occupation of the Land of Israel, and is credited with authoring the Zohar. What is the role of a 'tzaddik,' an exceptionally righteous person, in Torah thought? And why is it customary to pray at the tombs of the righteous? Our hosts engage in a fascinating conversation that conveys many lessons about venerating the righteous, and the power of prayer._________Rabbi Chaim Richman Jerusalem Lights | Torah for Everyone Join our new WhatsApp channel! https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDN...Rabbi Chaim Richman's 'Jerusalem Lights', a non-profit educational organization, shares the wisdom of Torah teachings with all sincere spiritual seekers, emphasizing the ennoblement of the human spirit, the brotherhood of mankind, and the nurturing and development of each individual’s personal faith and relationship with the Creator. Frequency of Spiritual Sensitivity

This week's double Torah readings of the portions of Tazria and Metzora focus on the high level of spiritual sensitivity that Torah beckons us to cultivate: sensitivity to the miracle of birth, to relationships, to how we treat others… and to how we speak about others. Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman discuss the unprecedented and inimitable Biblical phenomena known as 'tzaraat' – a Divine wake-up call which, in reality, becomes a channel for Divine mercy and compassion, providing a wayward individual who alienated others, with the toolkit he needs to reintegrate himself as a responsible and caring member of society._________Rabbi Chaim Richman Jerusalem Lights | Torah for Everyone Join our new WhatsApp channel! https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VbDN...Rabbi Chaim Richman's 'Jerusalem Lights', a non-profit educational organization, shares the wisdom of Torah teachings with all sincere spiritual seekers, emphasizing the ennoblement of the human spirit, the brotherhood of mankind, and the nurturing and development of each individual’s personal faith and relationship with the Creator. What Is the Urim and Tummim?

This week's Torah portion of Tetzaveh (Ex.27:20-30:10) mysteriously omits the name of Moshe, and though his presence is hidden, he is very much on the scene. But what's that all about? In this week's Jerusalem Lights podcast, Jim Long and Rabbi Chaim Richman explore this theme of hiddenness -- a major lesson of the Purim story, both past and present. Our hosts engage in a fascinating discussion of the Breastplate of the High Priest and its mysterious, oracle-like function known as the 'Urim V'Thummim', and begin to prepare for the upcoming days of Purim. The Fast of Esther will be observed on Monday, March 2 2026. Purim in most of the world will be observed on Tuesday March 3, and in Jerusalem, Shushan Purim will be observed on Wednesday March 4. Purim Sameach, Blessings for a joyous Purim to all! _________Rabbi Chaim Richman Jerusalem Lights | Torah for Everyone Please support the work of Jerusalem Lights, Inc., a USA recognized 501 ( c ) 3 non-profit organization to enable these productions to continue and grow:PayPal: infojerusalemlights@gmail.com or: https://paypal.me/JerusalemLights?loc...In the USA: Jerusalem Lights Inc.
