Episode 237: Slithering Through the Sea (National Sea Serpent Day)

Today on August 7th is National Sea Serpent Day, also known as Sea Dragon Day. It commemorates those mythological creatures that appear in many cultural and urban folklore. One of the more famous sea serpents is the Loch Ness Monster, nicknamed “Nessie”, supposedly photographed in Scotland. While the photograph has been debunked, Nessie definitely left a big mark of wonder and awe in society. Also, monsters thought to be mythical then have been confirmed to be real animals now, such as the giant oarfish, perceived by the Japanese as messengers of the sea god’s palace and thought to be omens of earthquakes and tsumani. This week, we’ll be playing tracks from video games that feature sea serpents: a cousin of Nessie that helps student across the lake, a sea-dweling snake with a poisonous bite and paralyzing breath, and a worldly serpent that speaks a language long forgotten. Following these original tracks are remixes, with a special note that some are from OC Remix. Hoist the sails and prepare to meet these creatures of the sea…   “National Sea Serpent Day” Tessie (Earthbound fandom) Sail Serpent (Dragon Quest.org) Jormungandr (God of War fandom)     Track Listing Intro and BGM: “You’ll Never Find a Nessie in the Zoo”, composed by Roger and Gavin Greenaway, from the 1984 British cartoon “The Family-Ness” “Tessie!” – [Earthbound] – composed by Keichi Suzuki, Hirokazu “Hip” Tanaka “Earthbound ‘Brainshock’ [Tessie!] – remixed by aluminum “Ocean Waves” – [Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation] – composed by Koyichi Sugiyama “Ocean Waves” – arranged by Koyichi Sugiyama, performed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, from the album “Symphonic Suite Dragon Quest VI Maboroshi no Daichi” “God of War” – [God of War (2018)] – composed by Bear McCreary “War Never Changes [God of War]” – remixed by Aesaire   YouTube playlist Discord channel     Source

Episode 235: Cruising the Road (National Day of Motoring)

Before you lies the open road, with its many twists and turns, entrances and exits, and at times a path less used or paved. Your map shows the network of roads that pass through or end at a city or stop. There’s a destination in mind, guided by a general direction that needs to be taken. Today, we’re celebrating National Day of Motoring, on July 24th, a day launched by MINI USA, the manufacturer of the Cooper, for the pure joy of driving for fun. At first, MINI encouraged their owners to take part in a nationwide rally to complete tasks and check in at certain stops along their route. Then it grew beyond the brand to include classic and modern cars. This day is meant for drivers and their passengers to explore new roads and destinations and share in the experience. We’re playing tracks from video games that evoke the sense of motoring: a rally to one of five destinations, a racing adventure in Mexico, and a circuit of tracks across various countries. There’s also remixes to follow each of these original tracks. Time to shift into Drive and hit the gas!   “National Day of Motoring” Out Run Forza Horizon 5 Horizon Chase       Track Listing “Magical Sound Shower” – [Out Run] – composed by Hiroshi Kawaguchi “Out Run “Magic Sound Shower” theme (Arcade/Sega Saturn)” – remixed by Tee Lopes “Encanto” / “Main Menu/Menu” – [Forza Horizon 5] – composed by Urbandawn “Forza Horizon 5 – Menu Theme [Overlay remix]” – remixed by Overlay Music “Title Theme” – [Horizon Chase] – composed by Barry Leitch “Title Theme (Yrae Araujo Remix)” – remixed by Yrae Araujo   YouTube channel Discord channel     Source

Episode 234: Going the Wrong Way (National Wrong Way Corrigan Day)

Sometimes going the wrong way is a good thing… Just ask Douglas Groce Corrigan, a pilot who decide to fly in the ‘wrong direction’, and we’re celebrating National Wrong Way Corrigan Day on July 17th. It was on this day, back in 1938, that Corrigan didn’t follow his submitted flight plan, from New York to California. With a dream in his heart and the thought of Charles Lindbergh’s flight to Paris in his head, Corrigan left heading east after encountering heavy clouds and managed to make it to Dublin, Ireland on July 18th. While his license was suspended, Corrigan received a hero’s welcome, complete with ticker tape parades and movie contract to play as himself about his transatlantic flight (“The Flying Irishman”). He still states that “… I got mixed up in the clouds, and I must have flown in the wrong way.” On this week’s episode, we’re discussing video games in which things went the wrong way: a pet in a creepy mansion, a wayward Paladin charging into a rookery, and a livestream gameplay that went incredibly south. We’re playing tracks from these games along with their covers. Prepare yourself to go the wrong way…   “Wrong Way Corrigan Day” Douglas Corrigan “The Adventures of Wrong Way Corrigan” Know Your Meme: Leroy Jenkins “Twitch Plays Pokemon” Twitch Plays Pokemon (Bulbapedia)     Track Listing “Edison Family” – [Maniac Mansion (NES)] – composed by George Sanger “Maniac Mansion (Edison Family’s Theme)” – covered by Lame Genie “A Call to Arms” – [World of Warcraft] – composed by Glenn Stafford and James Hayes “A call to arms HEAVY METAL (World of Warcraft soundtrack)” – covered by Charlie Parra “Wild Pokemon Battle” – [Pokemon Red] – composed by Junichi Masuda “Pokemon Red Blue Yellow WILD BATTLE” – covered by ToxicxEternity   YouTube playlist Discord channel     Source

    Episode 233: Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec

Today we’re celebrating the 26th anniversary of Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, back in July 10, 2001, exclusively for Sony’s PlayStation 2. It was the third installment and is the series’ first game within the sixth generation of consoles. While there is multiplayer mode via Arcade Mode, the core Gran Turismo experience lies in Simulation Mode. Earning licenses allows the player to access certain race courses and challenges, while winning these races gives credits, so that they can buy certain or their favorite cars to tune and race in more difficult races. The significant leap in technology (graphics, physics, sound design, car modelling, etc) added to the experience. Gran Turismo 3 is considered the best-selling in the series and the 2nd best-selling PlayStation 2 game. Episode 232: Developed in America

Happy 250th Birthday, America! On July 4th, delegates of the Second Continental Congress met to sign a document that would set a course for the Thirteen Colonies. Intense debate and voting sessions in previous days and weeks were required to ensure that all the colonies were in agreement. All knew they were declaring themselves traitors to a monarchy an ocean away yet were resolved in their intent to free themselves the invisible hand that burden them of their way of life. Two days before, they approved a resolution of independence; on July 4th , the Declaration of Independence was dated and signed, legally separating themselves from King George III. In lieu of the Fourth of July weekend, we are celebrating with tracks from video games that were developed in the United States of America: a scientist escaping a lab during an alien invasion, a lone prisoner who turns out to be a Dragonborn, and a man trying to pay a debt by searching for a special woman. We’ve also got covers and remixes following each of these tracks. Episode 231: A Tribute to Bobby Prince

This week’s episode is a special tribute to Bobby Prince (aka Robert Caskin Prince III), the composer for several id Software games and their series, such as Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Duke Nukem, and Rise of the Triad. He passed away recent on Jun 16th. Bobby Prince had an interest in MIDI technology during the late 1980s and early 1990s, having a music background when he was part of a high school band called “Jesters”. He learned to create backtracks for various genres and was active on the BBS (bulletin boards) for computer music and MIDI. By chance, he happened to reply to a call for someone able to create music for video games. After speaking with Scott Miller and later John Romero, he worked on the music for the second trilogy of the Commander Keen series. He also did sound, along with music for Wolfenstein 3D, using his experience as a platoon soldier during his time in the Vietnam War. The music he composed is heavily influenced by rock and metal music from groups such as Alice in Chains, Megadeath, Black Sabbath, Pantera, and Slayer. His composition for Doom has been entered into the National Recording Registry. Join us as we listen to several compositions by Bobby Prince, along with their covers and remixes, and learn more about him…   Bobby Prince Music blog Legacy (Bobby Prince) Doom II Music (Fandom)     Track Listing All original tracks composed by Bobby Prince.   “Welcome to a Kick in Your Pants in Good Old Hillville” – [Commander Keen in Goodbye, Galaxy] “Commander Keen 4 – ‘Welcome to a Kick in Your Pants in Good Old Hillvile’ (EWI Cover)” – covered by Soundole VGM Cover “Get Them Before They Get You” – [Wolfenstein 3D] “Wolfenstein 3D – Get Them (EF Remix)” – remixed by EliteFish “Running From Evil” – [Doom II] “Running From Evil // Cover” – covered by Vincent Moretto Outro: “E1M1 – At Doom’s Gate – Doom” – [Doom] – composed by Bobby Prince; covered by FamilyJules featuring ToxicxEternity   YouTube playlist Discord Channel         Source
