Unpeeled Thoughts

Unpeeled Thoughts

Why do we act fine when we’re clearly not? Why do we call chaos “normal”? Unpeeled Thoughts is where I, Faith, try to make sense of adulthood in Naija, unpack society, culture, power, identity, friendships, and the quiet behaviours we pretend make sense. Diary style, honest, reflective, and a little sarcastic, I'll mix storytelling with social commentary. A journal in audio form, and a soft space to think without losing your mind. Each episode sits in that good kind of discomfort, moving through the odd, the tender, and the quiet chaos of daily life with nuance, vulnerability and calm. adaorahezekiah.substack.com

Why I’m Turning In My 'Girls Girl' Card

“Girls girl” used to be simple. It meant you looked out for other women, didn’t throw anyone under the bus, and just had each other’s backs. Lately, though, especially online, it’s turned into this loud, almost bossy thing. So in this episode, I’m going into how a word that once meant solidarity somehow turned into a way to control how women act. We get into how people treat any disagreement like it’s betrayal. Labels like “pick me” get thrown around just to shut down real conversations. And honestly, it’s wild how often people confuse holding someone accountable with causing harm. I want to talk about the line between actually supporting someone and just demanding loyalty. Sometimes, even setting a boundary gets twisted into being “anti women" and "anti feminism” There’s this quiet, draining feeling that comes with always having to perform sisterhood, especially in Nigerian spaces or online, where being close is everything, and sometimes staying quiet feels safer than speaking up. This isn’t about being against women or feminism. It’s about looking honestly at what happens when solidarity gets reduced to aesthetics, vibes or something fragile that falls apart if anyone dares to ask a tough question. If support disappears the second things get real, was it ever really support? So if you’re tired of friendship politics, feeling burnt out by online feminism, or just wondering what a real community should feel like, this one’s for you. This is a public episode.
