Stop Limiting Yourself: How Your Beliefs Become Your Biology | Nir Eyal

Nir Eyal spent six years researching why brilliant, talented people consistently fall short of their potential, and what he found will surprise you: it's not a lack of knowledge, resources, or intelligence holding most people back. It's the invisible belief system running silently in the background, shaping every decision you make without your awareness. Most of us are walking around with beliefs forged in survival mode, and we're using them long after they've stopped serving us. The good news is that beliefs, unlike facts, are tools you can examine, update, and swap out. In this conversation, Nir walks you through the motivation triangle that explains why willpower and information alone never work, and the exact four-step turnaround process that rewrites the beliefs costing you peace, progress, and connection. Whether you're struggling with a goal that keeps stalling, a relationship that stays stuck, or a quiet voice telling you that you're not enough, this episode gives you a practical way out. The Greatness Playbook: The Belief Breakthrough Edition Nir’s books: Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products Indistractable, Updated Edition: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life Beyond Belief: The Science-Backed Way to Stop Limiting Yourself and Achieve Breakthrough Results In this episode you will: Learn the exact four-question turnaround process Nir uses daily to dissolve limiting beliefs about people, including the one about his own mother that changed everything Discover why being "too smart" can actually work against you and how liberating beliefs outperform facts when it comes to achieving what you want Understand the motivation triangle and why you'll never stay consistent on behavior and benefit alone without the third element most people skip entirely Find out why positive visualization and manifesting can actually decrease your chances of success and what athletes do instead that works Understand why the words you say out loud about yourself become your biology, and how to use secular prayer as a tool for pain tolerance and inner peace For more information go to https://lewishowes.com/1896 For more Greatness text PODCAST to +1 (614) 350-3960 More SOG episodes we think you’ll love: Lewis Howes [SOLO] Dr. Joe Dispenza James Clear Get more from Lewis!  Get my New York Times Bestselling book, Make Money Easy! LUKE COMBS: The Man Behind The Success (Marriage, Fatherhood & Life With OCD)

You can achieve everything you set out to and still feel empty. So what actually makes a truly successful life? Jay sits down with global country superstar Luke Combs for an honest conversation about life beyond the sold-out stadiums and awards. Luke shares what it’s really been like navigating success while still trying to stay grounded and feel like himself. He shares what it was like growing up with OCD, the intrusive thoughts that once controlled his days, and the quiet battles he faced long before fame. Luke also reflects on love, marriage, and fatherhood and how those roles mean more to him than any chart position ever could. He talks candidly about missing the birth of his son while on tour, the guilt that followed, and the ongoing effort to show up as the best husband and dad he can be. Jay and Luke explore the tension so many of us feel between chasing ambition and protecting what matters most, asking the question: What does success really mean if you’re not present for the people you love? Luke speaks about money, fame, and gratitude with humility, admitting that while financial success makes life easier, it can’t buy the feeling of a perfect day with your family or the peace of knowing you’re living in alignment with your values. In this interview, you'll learn: How to Stay Grounded When Success Changes Your Life How to Manage Intrusive Thoughts Without Letting Them Control You How to Be Present for Your Family While Chasing Big Dreams How to Strengthen Your Marriage Through Growth and Challenge How to Support Your Mental Health Without Shame How to Give Back When You’ve Been Given More How to Stay True to Who You Are as Your World Expands We all wrestle with doubt, guilt, fear, and the quiet pressure to be more than we think we are. But growth doesn’t come from pretending those struggles aren’t there, it comes from facing them with honesty and compassion. Luke Combs’ The Way I Am is an honest reflection on identity, love, and personal growth, a grounded collection of songs that explore what it means to show up as your true self. Deep Settling of the Body and Mind for Anxiety Release

In this meditation, I invite you into a deep settling of the body, returning gently to the inherent goodness of being embodied. We begin by coming back to the body as it is, allowing weight to settle into the floor and tension to loosen without judgement. The shoulders soften, the breath moves quietly in the background, and awareness travels slowly from the soles of the feet upward through the spine, across the shoulders, and down again through the body. Rather than analysing or correcting, we simply ask: How is it to be me in my body at this time? The body is not something to resist or fear. It is an essential part of who we are, carrying us into the world and into each present moment. With calm attention, we recognise the body as our companion in this life, grounding awareness in contact and steadiness. This daily guided meditation offers a moment of calm, whether you are pausing during the day or winding down before sleep, helping you relax deeply, release tension and feel at home in your own body. Don't Waste Your Life (Use THIS Daily Shift To Build a Life That ACTUALLY Feels Meaningful)

What if the real reason you feel stuck isn’t because you’ve failed but because you’ve been living on autopilot for too long?  Jay breaks down the small, everyday habits that quietly keep us stuck — our tendency to choose what’s comfortable, the way we assume we have more time than we do, and how often we tell ourselves we’ll start “later.” He explains why trying new things makes life feel fuller and more memorable — and how doing the same thing over and over can make months or even years feel like they flew by. And he reminds us that while comfort feels good in the moment, meaning is built slowly — and that’s what actually stays with you. Jay breaks down the hidden forces that keep us stuck: our brain’s love of comfort, our illusion that we “have time,” and the dangerous promise of “later.” He explains how novelty makes life feel expansive, while living on autopilot compresses our memories and years into a blur. He challenges the addiction to comfort, reminding us that meaning compounds slowly while pleasure fades quickly. Most importantly, he emphasizes that we don’t become our intentions, we become our patterns. Nearly half of our daily behaviors are automatic, which means the life we’re building is shaped less by what we dream about and more by what we repeatedly practice. In this episode, you'll learn: How to Stop Living on Autopilot How to Use Time with Intention How to Build Better Daily Habits How to Stop Waiting for “Later” How to Create a Life You Actually Chose  Clarity grows with courage. Start where you are. Use what you have. Choose what matters today. And trust that when you live on purpose, even the smallest steps can change the direction of your entire life. 391. The unconscious vs. conscious mind

We like to think we’re making conscious choices all day long - but a lot of what drives our reactions, habits, and gut feelings happens outside of awareness. The conscious vs. unconscious mind is a useful way to understand why you can know what you want, and still do the opposite. In this episode, we break down what the conscious and unconscious mind actually mean in psychology, where the idea came from, why it can feel unsettling to face, and how to build more influence over your impulses and automatic patterns.  We explore:•        The difference between deliberate thinking and automatic processing•        Freud’s topographical model•        The importance of the unconscious mind•        The responsibilities of the conscious and unconscious•        How to spot unhealthy unconscious patterns    Watch on Netflix Follow Jemma on Instagram: @jemmasbeg Follow the podcast on Instagram: @thatpsychologypodcast Subscribe on Substack: @thepsychologyofyour20s For business: psychologyofyour20s@gmail.com    Our favourite sources: https://www.nature.com/articles/nn.2112 https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/chapter/bookseries/abs/pii/S0065260106380021?via%3Dihub https://acmelab.yale.edu/sites/default/files/1999_the_unbearable_automaticity_of_being.pdf   The Psychology of your 20s is not a substitute for professional mental health help. Stop Trying to “Win” An Argument With Your Partner! (THIS Shift Will Turn Conflict into Communication)

Why can it sometimes feel easier to connect with the outside world than with the person we love most? Jay explores why love can feel stressful instead of safe, even when both people care deeply. Drawing from his Audible Original Messy Love: Difficult Conversations for Deeper Connection, he breaks down the everyday habits that quietly create distance: subtle disrespect, scorekeeping, unspoken resentment, mismatched conflict styles, and the fear of saying what we really feel. Through real sessions with three couples, he shows that what we often label as incompatibility is rarely about love itself, it’s about unresolved hurt, inherited fight patterns, and the deep need to feel respected, recognized, and taken seriously by the person we care about most. Jay introduces five transformative principles that can help couples turn conflict into connection. From understanding how respect, not chemistry, is the true foundation of lasting love, to breaking the silent resentment of scorekeeping, he invites listeners to reflect on where imbalance, miscommunication, and unexpressed needs may be shaping their connection. He explains how our conflict styles, whether we vent, hide, or explode, are protective patterns learned over time, and why repair, not perfection, is the true marker of a healthy relationship. In this episode, you'll learn: How to Build Love on Respect, Not Just Chemistry How to Stop Scorekeeping Before It Turns Into Resentment How to Express Needs Without Blame How to Identify and Improve Your Conflict Style How to Repair After an Argument Instead of Withdrawing How to Communicate Feelings Instead of Accusations Healthy love isn’t built in grand gestures or perfect moments. It’s built when two people choose understanding over ego, consistency over intensity, and respect over being right. And knowing those choices are available to you at any moment. 502 | God Won't Allow Me to Settle For Less

Have you ever tried to make something work so badly… only for it to fall apart anyway? In this episode, Tyra talks about the uncomfortable but necessary truth: sometimes the reason it didn’t work out is because God wouldn’t let you settle. Whether it’s relationships that almost made it, opportunities that looked good on paper, friendships that slowly faded, or spaces that felt “good enough” but not aligned — this conversation is about divine disruption. The closed doors. The redirection. The feeling of “why is this so hard?” When you’re just trying to make something stick. This week’s Affirmation is: “God, raise my standards to match Your promises.” Tyra unpacks: The difference between contentment and settlingTrusting redirection, even when it bruises your egoLetting go of “almost” in order to receive alignment If you’ve been frustrated because nothing mediocre seems to last in your life… maybe that’s the point. This episode is your reminder that not everything that leaves is a loss. Sometimes it’s protection. Sometimes it’s preparation. And sometimes… it’s proof that you’re called to more.
