#212: ADHD and Self-Esteem: How to Help Your Child Feel Good About Who They Are

We are talking with Penny Williams, host of the Beautifully Complex podcast, about ADHD and self-esteem. Penny vulnerably shares how her own social anxiety once made her overly critical, driven by a need for her kids to look “put together” as a reflection of her. We explore how letting go of others’ opinions can be a powerful turning point, especially for parents raising kids with ADHD and autism. Penny introduces the authenticity mirror and offers practical ways to reflect acceptance, confidence, and pride back to your child so they can feel good about who they truly are. MEET PENNY WILLIAMS Penny Williams is a behavior and parenting coach, author, and educator who supports families raising neurodivergent kids, including those with ADHD, autism, and anxiety. Through her science-informed, compassion-centered SIGNAL Parenting™ framework, she helps parents understand what behavior is communicating and respond with connection instead of punishment. Penny is the award-winning author of Boy Without Instructions, host of the Beautifully Complex Podcast with over 5 million downloads, and founder of the Regulated Kids Project. Her work has been featured in leading parenting and neurodiversity publications. At the heart of Penny’s work is one powerful belief: Behavior isn’t the problem — it’s the signal. She Destroyed His Life: Men Be Warned!

**He had the house. The savings. The good job. Then one woman destroyed all of it — and never faced a single consequence. Joe did everything right. He worked hard, saved $100K, bought his first condo, and finally felt ready to find "the one." What he found instead was a nightmare that would cost him his freedom, his health, and nearly his entire future. This is the true story of how a "damsel in distress" turned Joe's life upside down — fake suicide attempts, disappearing acts, a trafficking hoax, false assault charges, and 6 months sitting in a jail cell for a crime that never happened. No evidence. No corroboration. Just her word — and a system built to believe it no matter what. If you're a man who thinks "this could never happen to me," listen closely. Joe thought the exact same thing. In this video, I break down: ▪️ How the "rescue mission" trap works on good men ▪️ Why confidence and success can actually make you MORE vulnerable ▪️ The red flags Joe ignored — and the ones his parents saw immediately ▪️ How the justice system can hold you without a conviction ▪️ Why this woman had done this before — to another man, two months earlier ▪️ What every man needs to know before playing the hero This is Life 2.0 — a channel for men navigating midlife, divorce, and rebuilding a life that's actually theirs. We don't sugarcoat it. We call out bad behavior from men AND women, and we laugh at our own mistakes because that's the only way to gain wisdom from them. 🔴 If you know a guy in a situation like this, send him this video. It might save his life, his freedom, or both. 📩 Need coaching or want to talk through your own situation? Parenting Beyond the Diagnosis

On today’s episode of Parenting & You, Dr. Shefali sits down with a mother whose daughter was diagnosed with ADHD and autism, only to discover later in life that she, too, had the same diagnoses. Be A "Free Range Man" In A World Of "Wanna-Be Women"

In a world where traditional roles are being redefined, being a "Free Range Man" is a concept that has sparked intense debate and discussion. According to John Griffin, embracing this mindset is crucial for personal development and growth, particularly in the realm of relationship coaching. As a relationship coach, Griffin emphasizes the importance of establishing boundaries and navigating the complexities of modern relationships, which he refers to as Life 2.0. This is in stark contrast to the conventional norms of Life 1.0, where societal expectations often dictate our choices. Griffin's philosophy is rooted in modern wisdom, which encourages men to reevaluate their approach to relationships and personal growth. By recognizing the pitfalls of the "simp industrial complex" and the "pink mist," men can break free from toxic patterns and cultivate a more authentic, empowered sense of self. This video explores the concept of being a "Free Range Man" in a world where "WannaBe Women" are redefining the rules, and how men can thrive in this new landscape by embracing their individuality and rejecting the pressures of societal conformity. Through Life 2.0, men can focus on personal growth and development, and develop the skills and confidence needed to navigate the challenges of modern relationships, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and purpose-driven life. By tuning in, you'll gain valuable insights into the world of relationship advice for men, and learn how to establish healthy boundaries and cultivate meaningful connections. How to Parent a Strong Willed Child

On today’s episode, Dr. Shefali sits down with international parenting coach Mary Van Geffen, who specializes in helping mothers raise strong willed, or as she calls them, “spicy” children. As the mother of a spirited child herself, Mary understands just how humbling and triggering parenting can be. Dr. Shefali also shares her own experience raising a strong willed child and the lessons she has learned along the way. Together, they discuss why these children often experience bigger emotions, challenge routines and expectations, and require a different approach to parenting. Mary explains how parents can stay calm, kind, and firm while raising confident, resilient children. This conversation will help parents see that a strong willed child is not a problem to fix, but a gift to understand and nurture.
