Ep. 7 - Innovation Through Reinvention, Identity & Happiness Centered Leadership with Rochelle Gapere

“Sometimes the most strategic move you make isn’t scaling faster… it’s stepping back long enough to understand who you actually are.”In this episode, hosts and co-founders Stacey Luces and Denise Williams sit down with Rochelle Gapere, a Jamaican-Ugandan attorney turned Chief Happiness Officer, to explore the intersection of identity, reinvention, and leadership in today’s evolving global landscape.Rochelle shares her journey from practicing law to experiencing a deep personal and professional misalignment that led her to take extended leave and ultimately a sabbatical at Oxford. It was there that she discovered positive psychology, not as a soft concept, but as a science grounded in performance, wellbeing, and human potential. This conversation goes beyond career pivots.Rochelle opens up about cultural identity, belonging, and the internal tension many high-performing leaders carry when success no longer feels aligned. She reframes innovation not just as external disruption, but as the courage to reinvent internally, to question inherited definitions of success, and to build a life and leadership style that reflects who you truly are.The discussion also connects wellbeing directly to business outcomes, from productivity and engagement to retention and long-term performance, making a compelling case that leadership today requires more than strategy. It requires self-awareness, psychological safety, and intentional design.Episode Highlights1. Reinvention as a Strategic Move - A breakup. A career that no longer fit. What looked like a pause became one of the most strategic decisions she made, leading her into the field of positive psychology and a completely new path.2. Identity Drives Innovation - The conversation explores how reconnecting with who you are, culturally and personally, becomes a powerful driver of clarity, decision-making, and innovation.3. Happiness Is Not Soft, It’s a Performance Strategy - Rochelle breaks down the data behind workplace wellbeing, showing how happiness directly impacts productivity, engagement, turnover, and ROI. Strategic themes discussed in this episode include:•        Why reinvention is not a breakdown, but a necessary leadership evolution•        The connection between identity, authenticity, and sustainable success•        How psychological safety directly impacts business performance and innovation•        The role of wellbeing as a measurable driver of productivity and retention•        Moving from external validation to internal alignment in leadership•        Why the future of leadership requires human-centered systems, not just operational excellenceAbout We WHISTLE GlobalWe WHISTLE Global is a leadership and membership organization built for global leaders of Caribbean heritage and aligned partners to fully belong and do extraordinary things together. Ep. 6 - The REAL moves behind the REELS: Caribbean Power & the Ecosystem That Is WHISTLE

“Caribbean excellence has never been the problem. The problem is we’ve been building it in isolation.” In this episode, hosts and co-founders Stacey Luces and Denise Williams pull back the curtain on what WE WHISTLE Global really is and why it exists. What started as a kitchen table conversation between two Caribbean leaders asking “what if we build together instead of separately?” has evolved into a global ecosystem connecting leaders across 15+ countries, multiple industries, and generations. This is a behind-the-scenes look at the strategy, intention, and lived experience of building WHISTLE. Stacey and Denise share the real story: The hundreds of conversations and meetings Countless hours of research and advisory meetings The early belief and resistance The emotional and strategic weight of building something new And the deeper truth driving it all: Caribbean leaders are already operating at the highest levels. What has been missing is the infrastructure to connect, align, and scale that power collectively. Episode Highlights 1. From Isolation to Ecosystem: Caribbean excellence exists across every industry, but often in silos. WHISTLE was built to change that by creating a space where leaders can connect, collaborate, and move together at scale. 2. The Real Cost of Leadership Without Community: At higher levels, leaders face isolation, pressure, and decision fatigue. This episode explores why trusted rooms and honest conversations are not optional, but essential. 3. From the Kitchen Table to Global Movement: The shift is happening. Leaders are moving from building individual success to designing impact, legacy, and long-term influence through aligned ecosystems. Strategic themes discussed in this episode include: • Why Caribbean leadership has been globally impactful but structurally disconnected • The difference between individual success and collective power • How trust-based communities accelerate opportunity, capital, and partnerships • The importance of building infrastructure, not just visibility • The role of identity, belonging, and shared experience in leadership growth • Why the future of leadership is ecosystem-driven, not individual What This Episode Ultimately Reveals • Caribbean leadership has always been globally impactful, but structurally disconnected • The shift required now is from individual success to coordinated, collective power • Trust-based, high-caliber communities are not optional. They are the accelerators of capital, opportunity, and influence • Visibility alone does not scale impact. Infrastructure does • Identity, belonging, and shared lived experience are not soft concepts. They are strategic advantages when activated correctly • The future of leadership is not built in isolation. It is built in ecosystems that align people, capital, and execution About We WHISTLE Global We WHISTLE Global is the gateway to Caribbean Excellence. Ep. 5 - Alignment, Identity & Building Without Losing Yourself with Naresh Samlal

"From 11 people in a basement on a mattress to leading a global technology firm, Naresh Samlal’s story is not just about success. It’s about alignment, identity, and the cost of building something meaningful.” In this episode, hosts and co-founders Stacey Luces and Denise Williams sit down with Caribbean diaspora leader Naresh Samlal, Founder and CEO of CloudSource Global, a modern IT and cybersecurity firm helping companies operate securely and predictably. Naresh shares his journey from immigrating to the United States and living with extended family, to rising through the ranks of corporate leadership and ultimately building a company grounded in trust, discipline, and long-term thinking. He reflects on the sacrifices of his parents, the mindset shifts that shaped his leadership, and the moment he realized his greatest advantage was not despite his background, but because of it. This conversation goes beyond business. Naresh opens up about the isolation of leadership, the pressure to perform at higher levels, and the importance of creating spaces where leaders can be fully honest without having to carry the weight alone. He speaks candidly about community, fatherhood, mentorship, and the internal evolution required to build something that is not only successful, but aligned. Episode Highlights 1. From Survival to Strategy: Naresh’s early experience as part of an immigrant family shaped his work ethic and perspective. What began as survival evolved into intentional leadership rooted in discipline, long-term thinking, and calculated risk. 2. The Isolation Tax of Leadership: At higher levels, leaders are expected to have answers—even when they don’t. Naresh shares the reality of carrying responsibility without shared context and why creating trusted spaces is essential for sustainable leadership. 3. Redefining Wealth Beyond Money: The conversation explores how wealth is expanding beyond financial outcomes into alignment, relationships, and the ability to live and lead with intention. Strategic themes discussed in this episode include: • The hidden cost of leadership and the importance of emotional and relational support systems • How Caribbean upbringing shapes resilience, ambition, and identity in global environments • The shift from external success to internal alignment as a measure of leadership • Why community is not optional at higher levels of leadership, it is essential • Building businesses that reflect who you are becoming, not just what you can achieve About We WHISTLE Global We WHISTLE Global is a leadership and membership organization built for global leaders of Caribbean heritage and aligned partners to fully belong and do extraordinary things together. Ep. 4 - Building Healthcare Ecosystems, Family Legacy & Breaking Barriers with Raymond Levy

“From loading UPS trucks at 3:30 AM to building healthcare systems serving underserved communities, Raymond Levy’s story is a masterclass in Caribbean diaspora leadership.” In this episode, hosts and co-founders Stacey Luces and Denise Williams interview Jamaican-born healthcare leader Raymond Levy, President and CEO of Total Medical Management and chairman and CEO of the NGO Alternative Healthcare Solutions. Levy shares how being raised in a latchkey home by a mother who worked three jobs shaped his work ethic and how family and community influence his leadership. After football, he learned the U.S. healthcare system at Neighbourhood Health Partnership (later acquired by UnitedHealthcare), identified disparities in underserved communities, and built and acquired medical centres designed to match the quality and aesthetics of affluent areas. He also discusses launching Breaking Healthcare Barriers in Jamaica after his mother’s final wish, funding early efforts personally, organizing hurricane-response missions across rural Jamaica with rotating volunteer clinicians, and emphasizing relationship-building, listening, and problem-solving to navigate bureaucracy and create lasting legacy for his five children. Episode Highlights 1. From Athlete to Healthcare Systems Builder - Raymond didn’t plan to enter healthcare. He saw a gap: Healthcare infrastructure in underserved communities looked nothing like affluent areas. So he began acquiring, building, and scaling medical centers designed to bring dignity and quality care to underserved neighborhoods. 2. Diaspora Networks Are an Untapped Force - Raymond mobilized 60+ doctors, nurses, and volunteers after a hurricane to run medical missions in Jamaica. His insight: The diaspora’s willingness to give back is not the problem. The missing piece is a trusted conduit to coordinate impact. 3. Legacy Is Built Through Participation - Raymond includes his children in everything. His philosophy is legacy is something the next generation witnesses and carries forward. Strategic themes discussed in this episode include: • Diaspora leadership as a long game built through discipline, risk, and persistence • How Caribbean family systems shape ambition, work ethic, and leadership identity • Seeing gaps in underserved communities and turning vision into practical infrastructure • The role of network capital in mobilizing people, expertise, and resources across borders • Why Caribbean leadership is uniquely positioned to bridge cultures, sectors, and communities toward collective progress About We WHISTLE Global We WHISTLE Global is a leadership and membership organization built for global Caribbean leaders to fully belong and do extraordinary things together. Ep. 3 - Reinvention, Belonging, and Building What Lasts with Michelle Ottey

In a nod to International Women’s Day (IWD) co-hosts Stacey Luces and Denise Williams are joined by Michelle Ottey, Principal Investment Officer and Caribbean Hub Lead for IFC Transaction Advisory, the private sector arm of the World Bank. Michelle has spent decades structuring complex public-private partnerships and advising governments across the Caribbean on infrastructure, development, and long-term economic transformation. But this conversation goes beyond titles and transactions.Together, they explore a dimension of Caribbean leadership that is often overlooked in conversations about success, power, and performance. One of identity, reinvention, chronic stress, healing, and the long journey of learning to lead without shrinking.Michelle speaks candidly about what it took to move from proving she belonged to fully owning her presence. She reflects on being told she was “too much” from an early age, learning to adapt and conform, and later choosing a different path rooted in self-awareness, belonging, boldness, and legacy. She also shares how a life-altering cancer diagnosis transformed her leadership. What began as crisis became clarity. Her healing journey reshaped how she thinks about risk, control, delegation, success, community, and what it means to lead with both authority and heart. This episode is about becoming whole, community as a strategy, the power of the collective, and what becomes possible when Caribbean leaders stop shrinking and start building together. As the episode ends, Stacey, Michelle, and Denise break into laughter, song, and dance to one of Trinidad’s Carnival soca hits this year, “Cyah Behave” by Voice. On a week when the world marks International Women’s Day, the moment captured something important about leadership. Not perfection. Not constant strength. But the freedom to be joyful, vulnerable, fully human, and unapologetically present.Sometimes leadership looks like authority. Sometimes it looks like women refusing to shrink. And sometimes it looks like three Caribbean women laughing, singing, and claiming space exactly as they are.Strategic themes discussed in this episode include:• Reinvention as a leadership evolution, not a branding exercise• The hidden cost of chronic stress and over-functioning• Belonging, identity, and the pressure to adapt inside global systems• Why vulnerability, community, and coaching matter at senior levels• Infrastructure, development, and nation-building in the Caribbean• Leading through crisis without becoming a victim of it• The power of collective action in rebuilding lives, systems, and futures• Redefining wealth through health, relationships, purpose, and legacy• Why Caribbean excellence must move from isolated success to coordinated influenceAbout We WHISTLE GlobalWe WHISTLE Global is a leadership and membership organization built for global Caribbean leaders to fully belong and do extraordinary things together. Ep. 2 - "Hope in the Ashes: Caribbean Leadership, Betrayal, and Rebuilding in Public "

In this episode, hosts and co-founders Stacey Luces and Denise Williams expand the definition of Caribbean leadership and confront a truth rarely discussed in power circles. When talking about leadership, we usually talk often about strategy, scale, capital, and global influence. But sometimes the real test of leadership does not happen in the boardroom. It happens at home. It happens in private. It is in these deeply personal moments that leadership is most exposed, and it is exactly where this conversation begins. Stacey and Denise are joined by Sonya Fulford, a FIFA Council member representing small nations on the global stage, and her husband Garvey Missick, a Turks and Caicos entrepreneur and construction executive. Together, they discuss their book Hope in the Ashes, a dual-voiced memoir about betrayal, accountability, faith, and the intentional work of rebuilding a marriage under public scrutiny. Sonya and Garvey speak candidly about the hidden pressures Caribbean leaders carry, including emotional restraint, scrutiny, and the isolation tax. They share how betrayal “burned” their marriage, the shame and masking that followed, and what it required to rebuild: truth in the room, professional help, personal accountability, and the courage to let trusted support in. The conversation moves from pain to principle. From public image to alignment. From silence to ownership. They reflect on redefining success and leadership not as public applause, but as impact, mentorship, peace, and generational example. This episode is a blueprint for navigating leadership when public success does not guarantee private safety. Strategic themes discussed in this episode include: • Leadership beyond performance, including repair and rebuilding • Public success versus private safety and the hidden cost of silence • Emotional restraint, scrutiny, and masking at the highest levels • Truth-telling, accountability, and professional help as leadership decisions • Redefining wealth as peace, health, relationships, and integrity • Community pressure in small-island cultures and reclaiming your narrative • What Caribbean men and women must unlearn to lead differently This episode reframes wealth as more than money. Wealth is peace. Wealth is integrity. Wealth is the ability to rebuild without erasing yourself. About We WHISTLE Global We WHISTLE Global is a leadership and membership organization built for global Caribbean leaders to fully belong and do extraordinary things together. Ep. 1 - Caribbean Excellence, The Isolation Tax, and Why This Podcast Exists

In this inaugural episode, hosts and co-founders Stacey Luces and Denise Williams explain why they created the WE WHISTLE Podcast and why it is necessary, now.Caribbean leaders are global CEOs, investors, scientists, founders, policy makers, and cultural architects inside some of the most powerful institutions in the world. We are building companies, structuring capital, innovating in science and technology, influencing legislation, and shaping global culture. But the archive barely mentions us. And in leadership rooms, we are often the only ones who look and sound like us.Stacey and Denise introduce what they call the isolation tax, the experience of carrying ambition, responsibility, and visibility without shared context. They speak candidly about global Caribbean leaders rising to the top, what stays hidden behind that success, and the impact of our stories being undocumented or told by others. The WE WHISTLE Podcast is a doorway into real conversations with global leaders of Caribbean heritage. Not just what they achieved, but how they did it. The risks they took. The rooms they entered. The trade-offs they made. The responsibility that came with influence. These stories are a blueprint for the Caribbean diaspora. At the center of the podcast is identity, leaders shaped by their Caribbean heritage. Stacey and Denise discuss the name WHISTLE. It comes from a scientific phenomenon in the Caribbean Sea called the Rossby Whistle. It is a low vibration created when the Caribbean Sea interacts with powerful ocean currents. The vibration begins in Caribbean waters and travels far beyond its point of origin, and can even be detected from space. That is the metaphor behind WE WHISTLE: Caribbean influence that moves through global systems. Often quiet but always impactful and undeniable.Strategic themes discussed in this episode include:• Moving from being "the only" in the room to shaping the room • Owning our narrative • Making money and building real, lasting wealth• Trust across borders can change access, opportunity, and influence• Legacy, for ourselves, the next generation and the communities that shape usAbout We WHISTLE GlobalWe WHISTLE Global is a leadership and membership organization built for global Caribbean leaders to fully belong and do extraordinary things together.
