    Cognitive Dissonance, 7.29.11

In this installment of Cognitive Dissonance, Meg rails against the debt ceiling debacle, derides the war on the poor, and explains how we may all be screwed by the Tea Party's insistence on holding the global economy hostage to their temper tantrums. She also shares tweets from folks around the country encompassing their views on what's going on with Congress in 140 characters or less. Dammit Troy stops by to troll Meg and discuss the virtues of llamas, plus Glenn Beck's political re-education/summer youth camp; Will returns from Prague and gives his take on welfare queen Michele Bachmann; and Meg tops it off with an epic amount of D-bags o' the Week. Angry Malcontent will return in a week or so - he was at the beach. Lucky bastard. All music remains copyright the original artist. Cognitive Dissonance, 3.18.11

Testing, testing 1-2-3.... And we're back! Expect sporadic podcasts, but this one's a doozy. Token Conservative takes on defunding of public television, Angry Malcontent discusses the misery that is the new Twizzlers, and Meg rails against the Iraq War turning eight, derides Ann Coulter for suggesting radiation is good for you, gives details on Ann Coulter's Homo Rainbow, decries the war on the poor, and celebrates a pro-union victory in Wisconsin. Cognitive Dissonance, 1.29.10

Note: The first about 30 seconds or so are off balance. There was a problem with the hookup into my computer, so the vocal audio is very low in the introduction. This week was a very special edition of Cognitive Dissonance called "Cognitive Dissonance Celebrates Equality!" Why? Because the Platte County School District #1 tore down the Anti-Defamation League's "No Place for Hate" campaign banners at Wheatland's high school and West Elementary school after five parents (supposedly) complained because the Gay and Lesbian Fund of Colorado was one sponsor of this campaign. The banners hung for nearly a year before anyone was "offended." The school board's ultimate vote was 4-3 in favor of tearing the banners down. Many students and community members are outraged and are insisting the banners be hung again. Check out the Wheaterville website for more info, to sign a petition to put the banners back up, and how to contact the school board. We took public comment all night from Laramie community members, as well as from some brave souls who ventured from Wheatland. School board members will all be receiving CDs of this broadcast very soon. Technical note: I had wanted to mention Wheatland HS grad Jeremy Bredeson's excellent website and post, "Gay Like Me" on my show, but I simply forgot to write it in the show log. As such, I forgot. So I still want to give him a shout-out here: Give Mama Some Sugar Check out the site and the post - all of it is excellent reading. As for the rest of the show, Angry Malcontent reminded Obama the Lucy never let Charlie Brown kick the football and the fundits broke character to each speak as themselves on this issue. Yes, kids, here's the big reveal: The fundits aren't real people, they're caricatures of pundits. Whoa. D-bag o' the Week saw local and national d-bags getting called out with an assist from Matt Stannard. You can catch Matt on KOCA with "Sunday School" from 2-4 p.m. as he plays unsigned bands, b-sides and rarities and throws in a dash of political commentary for that perfect blend of spices. Track Listing: "Moral Threat" - Social Distortion "God And Country" - Thermals "New York City Cops" - The Strokes "Out Here in the Middle" - James McMurtry "Every State Line" - Ani DiFranco "God's Children" - The Gutter Twins"American Girl" - Tom Petty "Wasted Time" - Kings of Leon "Never Gonna Change" - Drive-By Truckers "Laramie" - Amy Ray "Mama's Got a Girlfriend Now" - Ben Harper "The Frown Song" - Ben Folds "The Times They Are a Changin'" - Asexuals "Underdogs" - Manic Street Preachers "Mutes in the Steeple" - Archers Of Loaf "Shepherds of the Nation" - The Kinks "Laugh,Love,Fuck" - The Coup "Lonely People" - Talib Kweli (Feat. LaToiya Williams) "Conservative, Christian, Right-Wing Republican, Straight, White, American Males" - Todd Snider"Defenders of Marriage" - Anne Feeney"Pirate Radio" - David Rovics

Cognitive Dissonance teaches Sunday School, 1.17.10

I filled in for new KOCA addition Matt Stannard of Shared Sacrifice on Sunday. Matt recently began hosting the show "Sunday School" but due to his alter-ego's responsibilities, he was forced to be in Texas this weekend. His show features progressive commentary and his own unique blend of music - think the similar politics of Cognitive Dissonance, but with a problem-solving twist. No worries. I played some political folk and some indie rock, and appealed to the good people in radioland to donate to the unfortunate souls in Haiti who have recently lost everything. I also talked about making phone calls for Democrat Martha Coakley in Massachusetts. She's the number sixty vote on health care reform, unless Scott Brown, a moderate-turned-teabagger, happens to swoop in and capture the seat. Track listing: "You Dissolve" - The Thermals"Walk" - Blind Melon "Looks Just Like The Sun" - Broken Social Scene "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" - The Jayhawks "Army Reserve" - Pearl Jam "So Much Beauty in Dirt" - Modest Mouse "Instigate The Role" - At The Drive-In "The Universal Cynic" - Bad Religion "Will the Revolution Come?" - Reel Big Fish "Scratch" - Morphine "Sing Me Spanish Techno" - The New Pornographers "The Rules" - Ben Kweller "The Times They Are A-Changin'" - Bob Dylan "Stupid's Pledge" - Utah Phillips "The Marching Song of the Covert Battalions" - Billy Bragg "Amerika v6.0 (The Best We Can Do)" - Steve Earle "Jesus Of The Moon" - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds "Frank's Tavern" - Calexico "Somebody Loves You" - Eels "Start A War" - The National "Is It Wicked Not to Care?" - Belle & Sebastian "American Music" - The Hold Steady "Sometimes Salvation" - The Black Crowes "With God On Our Side" - Bob Dylan "Unless You Are Free" - Utah Phillips "Between the Wars" - Billy Bragg "Transcendental Blues" - Steve Earle

    Cognitive Dissonance, 11.06.09

Podcasts will slowly return. I'm getting caught up, but this was an extra-special podcast. The podcasts will probably be somewhat out of order, but they'll be here. This week's show featured Dustin Von Krosigk, producer for the group Goon Squad, and a youth member of The State Advisory Council on Juvenile Justice (SACJJ). The SACJJ is made up of twenty-five people with training, experience or special knowledge concerning the prevention and treatment of juvenile delinquency or the administration of juvenile justice. Dustin was in and out of the juvenile system in Wyoming for non-violent offenses and saw the lack of focus on rehabilitation first-hand. He was also recently interviewed for a documentary on juvenile justice. It was fitting to have Dustin as a guest on Cognitive Dissonance on the second half of the "Know Your Rights" special - I read each amendment from the Bill of Rights and explained the meaning. The Angry Malcontent was ranting about car trouble since he was stuck in Fort Collins, but the Fundits were present. They debated the vote in Maine to overturn the governor's signing of a law to allow same-sex marriage. We had multiple d-bags o' the week. Finally, hip-hop group Goon Squad (produced by Dustin Von Krosigk) premiered two songs on the show. Track listing: "Know Your Rights," The Clash "Goons of Hazzard," Dead Kennedys"Disconnect," Rollins Band "I Can Be The Man You Want," Goon Squad "$timulus Plan," Dead Prez & The Evil Genius DJ Green Lantern "Sound of Da Police," KRS-One "Démocratie fasciste," Article 4 (feat. This week's show featured music from Treepeople, Sonic Youth, The Dead Weather, Superchunk, Tom Waits, The Love Me Nots, Super Furry Animals, The Brian Jonestown Massacre and Modest Mouse, and the Angry Malcontent ranted about our space program, and our lack of motivation ("Where's my goddamn hover car?!"). Blue Collar Joe debated Aurora Firestone on health care and got owned by Aurora and the Angry Malcontent. I shared my thoughts on Urbandictionary.com, and, for the first time, we had an unrelated, two-way tie for d-bag of the week! (Note: I referred to Robert Webb as Richard Webb a couple of times.
