Drag From The Left - Season 2: Episode 5

Hey there heathens and holy rollers, this week Avery and Juanita begin to discuss what their “Show Up Queen” verse would have centered. The conversation quickly veers into how unhelpful neoliberalism and performative politics are largely unhelpful in any political or liberation movement. They make an example out of DaBaby’s recent homophobic and HIV/AIDS-ignorant antics and conclude by drawing the parallels of the multiple ways white supremacist violence is enacted by people of all kinds of identities.  Later in the episode, Avery gets personal about his ongoing relationship with desirability, protection, anger, violence, and how that all fits into his abolitionist politics. Accountability is central to this week’s episode. #AllStars6 #DragRace #DragFTL Drag from the LEFT is recorded live every Sunday at 6PM EST with your hosts @AveryWare and @JuanitaBindem on Stereo App: https://stereo.com/averyware https://stereo.com/juanitabindem Drag From the LEFT is available everywhere podcasts are streamed:  https://anchor.fm/drag-from-the-left Follow us on social media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DragFTL/Twitter: https://mobile.twitter.com/DragFTLInstagram: https://instagram.com/dragftl?igshid=...  Bibliography: Stigmatizing Language Prevents People From Accessing HIV Care by  Juan Michael Porter II (The Body) (@juanmichaelii) @TheBodyDotCom  https://www.thebody.com/article/stigmatizing-language-prevents-hiv-care-access The History of Minstrel Shows and Jim Crow by Dr. Jonathan Holloway (Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition of @Yale)  https://glc.yale.edu/outreach/teaching-resources/teacher-professional-development-programs/past-teacher-development-15 How To Give A Genuine Apology Part 2: The Apology – The What and The How by Mia Mingus (Leaving Evidence) @miamingus

Drag From The Left - Season 2: Episode 4

Hey there heathens and holy rollers, inspired by the budding love affiars between Eureka O’Hara and Trinity K. Bonet, this week Juanita and Avery attempt to speak truth to the nuances and complexities of interracial dating in Queer communities. More specifically, they speak on Black folks that exclusively seek out white partners for sexual and romantic connections. They later transition to commentary on the demonization of African spiritual practices, its connection to colonization, and the many similarities some African spiritual practices have with Christain narratives. They wrap up with a conversation on the brilliance of Lil Nas X and his most recent song and video, Industry Baby. #RPDR #AllStars6 Drag from the LEFT is recorded live every Sunday at 6PM EST with your hosts @AveryWare and @JuanitaBindem on Stereo App: https://stereo.com/averyware https://stereo.com/juanitabindem Drag From the LEFT is available everywhere podcasts are streamed: https://anchor.fm/drag-from-the-left Follow us on social media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DragFTL/ Twitter: https://mobile.twitter.com/DragFTL Instagram: https://instagram.com/dragftl?igshid=...   TW/CW: Homophobia, transphobia, Gender-based family trauma, interracial relationships Bibliography: On Not Being White by Reginald Shepherd (In The Life edited by Joseph Beam)  The colonial politics of desirability, fitness and gay manhood by Avery Ware (Black Youth Project)  Introduction to the Military Masculinity Complex by Brandon T.
