    Ep. 32: The Dangers of Devotionals

    Welcome back to the Read, Do, & Tell Podcast. Amy and I are honored you are listening in (or watching on YouTube). It's true that devotionals may be short (they don't take much time to read) and may even help you understand a concept in the Bible. They can also make you "feel good" about having had a "quiet time" for the day. BUT (and this is a big but), there are certain dangers to only reading devotionals. Today, we are discussing the dangers of only reading Christian devotionals. While we certainly aren't discounting every devotional out there (although we'd emphatically tell your to STAY AWAY from "Jesus Calling"), what we are saying is the BIBLE should be a believer's primary reading source. Everything else we read (including Bible studies) should be tested and judged using God's Word.  Instead of just telling you about the dangers of devotionals, we're also offering some advice on what you SHOULD DO instead.  I hope you'll find this episode challenging AND encouraging!     Ep 31: Jesus' Death & Resurrection Bible Reading Plan

    Welcome back to The Read, Do, & Tell Podcast! Today, Amy & I {Becky} are sharing our next printable Bible reading plan, which is the third of our New Testament reading plans. We're picking up where we left off in Episode 29 in the storyline of the Bible. See the links below for all our reading plans. This reading calendar covers Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem all the way through to His death, resurrection, and ascension. We'll discuss Jesus being anointed at Bethany, His "inspection" as the Passover Lamb, His trials, His death on the cross, and hallelujah! - His resurrection. Quite a bit is written about the week between Palm Sunday and Jesus' resurrection. What's interesting to note is that the people went from "Hail Him!" to "Nail Him!" in just one week's time. But again, nothing that happened to Jesus during this week took Jesus by surprise. Jesus came to do the will of the Father. He came to give His life as a ransom for us.     Ep 30: Introducing The "Read, Do, & Tell" Podcast

    Welcome to The Read, Do, & Tell Podcast! This is our official re-launch of the podcast under a new name and new website here at Raising Rooted Disciples. This episode is more relaxed and informal as Amy and I {Becky} reintroduce ourselves on camera! Yep, we're no longer "hiding" behind the computer screen. If you want to learn about how Amy & I met and why we started this podcast in the first place, I'd encourage you to go back and listen to/watch Episode 1. In today's episode, Amy and I are each sharing three facts about ourself. For example, did you know that Amy loves to dance Salsa? Did you know that Becky prefers non-fiction? Then, we're each sharing a surprise fact about the other person {that neither of us knew would be shared}. We're also sharing why we changed the location and name of the podcast. A few years ago, I {Becky} was listening to a sermon in which Ezra 7 was the text. Ezra 7:10 says, “Now Ezra had determined in his heart to study the law of the Lord, to obey it, and to teach its statutes and ordinances in Israel.” There's a flow to this verse. First, you know God’s Word for yourself.     Ep 29: Jesus' Earthly Ministry Bible Reading Plan

    This Bible reading calendar covers the earthly ministry of Jesus between when He called His twelve disciples and Palm Sunday/Passion Week. In this episode, Amy and I (Becky) cover some of Jesus' miracles, His teachings, His parables, His "I am" statements, and Jesus' purpose for coming to earth. Of course, we aren't including every story from the Gospels. If you want that, we'd highly encourage you to read the Gospels for yourself. :) The shortest Gospel is Mark, but the Gospel most people say to begin with is John. It's your pick! When Jesus walked the earth, He was a wonderful example of how we should live, but we don't stop there. Jesus is MUCH MORE than a good teacher or prophet. Jesus was {and still is} FULLY God and FULLY man. He is alive and seated at the Father's right hand. Jesus came to do the will of the Father. He came to preach the Good News. He came to fulfill the Law and the prophets. He came to seek and save the lost. He came to give His life as a ransom for you and I. We're picking up where we left off in Episode 25 in the storyline of the Bible.     Ep 28: Look Out for False Teachers!

    Welcome back to the podcast!* In episodes 23, 24, 26, and 27, Amy and I began a discussion of false teachers and false teaching. False teaching is a SERIOUS matter to the church AND to God! Heretical teaching {or false teaching} is teaching that intentionally distorts or contradicts God or the pure gospel as revealed in Scripture. Those who intentionally distort these things are for real called "heretics." We can give specific examples of false teaching and even name false teachers {see Episode 26 & 27} until we're blue in the face. But we want to give you more than that. We desire that you be armed with discernment to recognize them online or in real life! False teachers tend to share common character patterns and behaviors. Mind you, these are not good character qualities or behaviors! In today's episode, we go through nine of these characteristics and behaviors. I'm sure there are more... We also walk through a few more Scriptures to better protect yourself from these wolves in sheep's clothing.     Ep 26: Heresies Against God

    Welcome back to the Read, Do, & Tell podcast! In episodes 23 and 24, we began the discussion of heresies in the church. We need to remember that heresy is a SERIOUS matter to the church AND to God! Heretical teaching is teaching that intentionally distort or contradict God or the pure gospel as revealed in Scripture. Those who teach heresies are "heretics." In episode 24, we discussed that Christians can hold different beliefs about some things, and it isn't considered heretical. Teachings that distort or contradict the nature and character of God ARE, however, heretical. Today, Amy and I tackle the topic of heresies against God. We will briefly go through four of the early councils and creeds of the church fathers to show you these heretical teachings are nothing new. We'll also talk about some modern-day heretical teachings around the nature of God and the Trinity, so buckle up!     Ep 25: Jesus' Early Life & Ministry Bible Reading Plan

    Welcome back to the podcast! Today, we're sharing our next printable Bible reading plan, which is the FIRST of our New Testament plans! It covers the early life of Jesus as a child as well as His early ministry. We're picking up where we left off in Episode 21 in the storyline of the Bible. Not only will we go through the early life of Jesus, but Amy and I talk about the "silent" years between the testaments. It's really cool to see what God was doing in those 400 years. While it's true that no prophets wrote or spoke during this 400-year period, God was anything but silent as He arranged things.  Galatians 4:4-5 reminds us that in the fullness of time, Jesus came born of a woman to redeem those under the law.
