From high school students to Grammy winners, join us in Interlochen Public Radio's Studio A for insightful interviews and performances of works new and old.

    7th Grade Band

    Jamie Robinson, Nancy Giffels, Jennifer Wesling, Tom Wright, Jean Callum, Marlene Robinson and Paula Herbart recently visited IPR's Studio A. They're members of the Traverse City Philharmonic's Act 2 Band, a group for adults with little to no prior musical experience who are interested in learning how to play a band instrument. Some of the musicians are returning to instruments they played in high school after years away, and others are picking up different instruments than what they played in high school. But some of them had never played an instrument before this year. Each of these musicians has deep ties to Interlochen, and they have a combined 116 summers working at Interlochen Arts Camp. That's why they decided to learn how to play the Interlochen Theme together, and they played it in Studio A.

    Viridian Strings (June 2026)

    The musicians of Viridian Strings return to Studio A with music of Jean Cras and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. The trio includes founders Joe Skerik, who plays the viola, and Kyle Stachnik, who plays the cello. They’re joined by violinist Nathan Meltzer. They're giving three free recitals this week in Elk Rapids, Suttons Bay and Frankfort, plus one next week at Interlochen. Music performed in Studio A Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Divertimento for String Trio in E-flat major (K. 563): I. Allegro Jean Cras, String Trio: II. Lent

    Viridian Strings (June 2026)

    Every time the ensemble known as Viridian Strings performs in northern Michigan, they have a slightly different configuration. Violinist Nathan Meltzer, double bassist Nina Bernat and pianist Umi Garrett are joining Viridian Strings founders Joe Skerik (viola) and Kyle Stachnik (cello) for a series of recitals in northern Michigan this week. The musicians visited IPR's Studio A to perform movements from quintets by Franz Schubert and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
