The Heatwave Killing: When a Husband Snapped | 1976 / Gary Toms / Harold Evans

In the summer of 1976, one of the hottest on record, a young man's body was found in a ditch on a lonely Leicestershire road. At first, it looked like a hit-and-run. It wasn’t. 25-year-old plumber Gary Toms had been in a relationship with a married woman named Marlene Evans. Her estranged husband, Harold Evans, had spent months watching the relationship develop, attending court for breach of the peace, attempting suicide, and quietly acquiring a pistol. Was this a man pushed beyond breaking point, or a calculated, premeditated murder dressed up as provocation?… *** LISTENER CAUTION IS ADVISED ***     This episode was researched and written by Eileen Macfarlane. Edited by Joel Porter at Dot Dot Dot Productions. Script editing, additional writing, illustrations and production direction by Rosanna Fitton.  Narration, additional audio editing and mixing, and script editing by Benjamin Fitton. MURDERED: Joan Webster & Marie Iannuzzi

In 1981, a Harvard graduate student vanished after stepping out of Logan Airport the night after Thanksgiving. As investigators searched for answers, they focused on a suspect connected to another murder – a woman who was killed just two years earlier. He was convicted in one case and widely believed responsible for the other. But after reviewing thousands of pages of records, we found gaps that raise difficult questions: Was the wrong man blamed? And is the real killer still out there?    Head over to our Crime Junkie YouTube channel to WATCH this episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfb_-VeKeqQ Source materials for this episode cannot be listed here due to character limitations. Fertility Specialist Helps Couples Get Pregnant, Then Has Affair With Wives- Mysteriously Found Dead

Everyone hears about pre-nups but what about post-nups? They’re drafted and signed AFTER two people are legally married and they’re typically much weaker when brought in front of a judge.    For example, the following post-nups of a young couple in Hawaii will likely not stand up in court.    It states that in the event of a divorce: the husband gets all the assets; their family home and full custody of their daughter. The wife gets nothing.    Nothing besides two stipulations:     She is permanently banned from visiting psychics nor can she ever, under no circumstance, see or speak to her fertility specialist ever again.    The specialist is a local acupuncturist named Jon Takuhara who has helped multiple couples successfully conceive. What does Jon have to do with anything? And is it just a coincidence that two weeks after the couple signs their post-nups, Jon is found murdered?        Full show notes available at RottenMangoPodcast.com Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
