Understanding Status: The Science Behind Respect and Influence (And What It Means for Parenting) w/ Professor Alison Fragale

In today’s episode, I sit down with psychologist and professor Alison Fragale to explore the concept of status—what it really means, why the need to be respected is such a fundamental human drive, and how it shapes the way our kids navigate friendships, school, and their broader social world. We talk about how status often shows up differently for girls, the balance between being likable and being confident, and how subtle habits like self-deprecation can influence how our kids see themselves. We discuss a simple, powerful framework for understanding behavior through the lens of warmth and competence, along with practical ways to help kids build confidence, interpret social feedback, and develop relationships rooted in real respect rather than external validation. Do You Have to Get Checked? Let's Talk Cervical Checks + Sweeps

This week on the Mommy Labor Nurse podcast we're going to talk about your cervix! To be more specific, we'll be diving into cervical checks and membrane sweeps. Your cervix is essential to birth and can often be used as an indicator of how "prepped" your body is for labor before labor even starts. Today, you'll learn how cervical checks are done, how to handle them, and general pros and cons during pregnancy and labor. Then, we'll talk about membrane sweeps which involve the cervix and are one of several things you can do to help jump start labor. So, what exactly is a membrane sweep? Here's a hint, it has nothing to do with actual broom sweeping! Keep listening to learn more. After this episode, you can continue learning with Episode 77 on why it's important to prep your body for labor and EP112 where you'll get tips about prenatal exercise that will serve you during birth and beyond.   Questions covered in this episode: What is a cervical check? What if you are not dilated or just 1 centimeter dilated? How long does the cervical check take? What exactly is the provider checking for during the cervical check? Are cervical checks painful? What tricks can you use to pass the cervical check? What is the Bishop Score and how does it work? Is the cervical check actually necessary? When is the cervical check necessary? Can you ask for a cervical check to your provider? Can you ask for a cervical check during labor? What are the Pros and Cons of cervical checks during pregnancy? What is the difference between cervical check and membrane sweep? What to expect after the membrane sweep? What tips can you use to pass the membrane sweep? What happens if a membrane sweep is successful? What should you do after a membrane sweep? What other options do you have if a membrane sweep isn't successful?

Life Comes At You Fast | Ep 180 | The Dear Son, Show

Dear Son: Life Comes at You Fast (Problem-Solving, Responsibility & Real-World Lessons) In this episode of The Dear Son Show, D Johns and Jey Blac reflect on how quickly real-life tests can arrive before sons feel prepared, using stories like a late-night tire blowout that revealed gaps in communication, problem-solving, and a father’s tone even when saying the right words. They discuss using unexpected moments as coaching opportunities, balancing protection with letting kids experience consequences, and the danger of “skipping steps,” including buying a teen a new Challenger too soon, allowing passengers, and a wreck that followed—plus lessons from a stolen scooter and earning replacements. The hosts also connect “life comes at you fast” to readiness planning, global events as teachable moments, and personal examples like sudden loss, joining the military, and financial growth outpacing habits, ending with a push to “talk less and do more work.” 00:00 Tire Blowout Cold Open 00:45 Welcome to Dear Son 01:44 Network Updates 03:18 Life Comes Fast 04:58 Late Night Blowout 08:36 Problem Solving Lessons 12:31 Repair Talk and Trust 16:11 Letting Sons Lead 17:30 Car Crash Boundaries 18:34 Scooter Stolen Twice 22:31 Scooter Lesson Learned 23:03 Teen Car Rules 25:03 Crash After Greenlight 27:10 Rewards And Entitlement 29:51 Teach Through Doing 36:58 World Events As Lessons 42:54 Life Came Fast Stories 44:48 Planning And Money Prep 47:34 Closing Lets Talk Work #fathersonrelationship #adviceformen #modernfatherhood #adultchildren #lifelessonsformen #raisingmen #raisingkids #mantalk Channel Focus Areas: “What Fathers Should Teach Their Sons” “How to Be a Better Father” “Father Son Relationship Advice” “Mistakes Fathers Make” “Lessons Every Man Should Learn” Follow James: https://instagram.com/jeyblac Also, if you've made it this far, don't forget to: 1. subscribe to the channel, 2. turn on the notifications, 3. like this video, 4. leave a comment, and 5. share this content with someone who needs it. Ep.308: Jessica Robertson on Duck Dynasty Values, Adoption Identity, and Raising Grounded Kids

In this episode, Dr. Meg Meeker talks with Jessica Robertson about the family values behind Duck Dynasty, the role of faith in shaping their home, and the challenge of raising grounded children in a culture obsessed with fame, screens, and constant noise. Jessica shares how her family protected their marriages, children, and routines during the height of public attention, and why authenticity, forgiveness, and prayer resonated so deeply with viewers. They also dive into adoption, identity, and Jessica’s heart behind her children’s book Dear Valor. Drawing from her experience raising Gus, her Black son adopted into their white family, Jessica explains why honest conversations about identity matter, how adoption reflects biblical truth, and why intentional parenting is essential in every season. This conversation is filled with wisdom on faith, family values, adoption identity, homeschooling, and raising grounded kids with confidence and love. Episode Highlights: Why Duck Dynasty connected with so many families Jessica explains how the show’s emphasis on prayer, faith, forgiveness, and family made people feel seen and encouraged. How the Robertsons protected their kids from fame She shares the boundaries they set around filming, routines, social media, and keeping family life as normal as possible. Adoption, identity, and honest family conversations Jessica opens up about raising Gus, talking about race and belonging, and why adoption should be discussed with truth, compassion, and intention. Parenting with presence in a distracted world The conversation explores schooling choices, technology boundaries, support systems, and why kids need parents who stay engaged. Encouragement for overwhelmed parents Jessica offers practical reassurance for moms and dads trying to build strong families without doing everything perfectly. About Jessica Robertson: Jessica Robertson believes children thrive when parents lead with consistency, faith, and presence. Whether navigating fame, adoption, technology, or school decisions, her message is clear: grounded kids are shaped by grounded families. Parents do not need celebrity platforms to build strong homes, but they do need intentionality, courage, and a willingness to protect what matters most. Buy her latest book, Dear Valor here.
