Too many conversations about trans, intersex and gender-diverse people, including gender-nonconforming people, happen without them. Misinformation fills that silence; in homes, clinics, institutions, courtrooms and newsrooms. Turn the Tables tears those misconceptions apart, in public, with evidence and lived experience. Each episode brings a diverse panel to one table: trans, intersex and gender-diverse community members, including gender-nonconforming people, other LGBQ+ people, allies, health professionals, legal voices and sometimes the people who hold the misconception itself.

    Trans people are mentally iIl.

    In 2019, the World Health Organisation reclassified gender incongruence; removing it from its list of mental disorders. Uganda's health system has yet to follow. We talk pathologisation, healthcare access, and what an affirming health system actually requires. The science has moved. This conversation demands the system does too.

    Trans people are a western import.

    The most common and damaging misconception in the Ugandan context is that trans identity is foreign, colonial, or imposed. Int this episode, we talk a bit about pre-colonial African history, linguistics, and oral tradition to demonstrate that gender diversity is indigenous.
