EDIT: Snowbowl Ski Resort, at the time it began using reclaimed sewage water for artificial snow, was the only resort in the world to use reclaimed water to make 100% of their artificial snow. Episode 024: Molly Wood (Whale Foundation)

Join Michael Che and Colin Jost (aka Cody Bayles and Dan Phillips) as we go #beyondFLG with intellectual, interpersonal, and intergalactic powerhouse; Molly Wood, the executive director for the Whale Foundation. Molly was born and raised in the throws of the Mogollon rim in Show Low, AZ - the place where the main drag is named “Deuce of Clubs.” and the high school is named after your favorite nickname for middle-aged women trolling for younger men - #GoCougars. In this episode, Molly goes #beyondFLG to discuss her personal interest in botany and herbalism, what led her to taking on a gig as a river guide, and ultimately, what led her to apply and be selected for the executive director position at the Whale Foundation - which is a non-profit company oriented toward connecting the river guiding community with resources for mental health treatment, funding for education/further learning, and medical health treatment. Molly shares about the history of the Whale Foundation including the origins of its name, her vision for going forward, and some challenges she foresees. It was a bigly pleasure sitting with Molly and to learn how much passion she holds for developing and building community in natural and organic ways, in addition to what GPS coordinates represent her favorite places to be connected to nature. Episode 025: Meg Kabotie-Adakai (Flagstaff Mountain Town Market)

Join Snoop Dogg and Mike Tirico (aka Cody and Dan) as they take a break from the Olympics to interview Flagstaffian Meg Kabotie Adakai. Meg is the mom of two beautiful children. She's an educator, she's an artist, and she's a lover of nature and community. She earend a most prestigious degree from THE Northern Arizona University. Her degree is in Biomedical Science and Psychology. Meg comes from a line of Hopi artists on her father’s side, whose work can be found throughout Northern Arizona and the world. She is a board member of Flagstaff Foodlink and the Indigenous Circle of Flagstaff, and serves on the Indigenous People’s Advisory Council of Coconino County. She currently manages Flagstaff Mountain Town Markets, and teaches children about nature and community. This episode covers some of Meg’s conenction to the land and the people of the surrounding areas, her approach and goals in creating the FLG Mountain Town Markets, and how the market has unfolded thus far, including what she sees going forward. Episode 002: Davona Blackhorse, MA (PhD Candidate)

For today’s episode, Tommy B and Robby G (AKA Cody B and Danny P) go #beyondFLG with Davona Blackhorse, a clinical mental health counselor who is currently working towards a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Studies from NAU. In Davona’s program, her studies focus on the psychological impact of toxic land mining exposure on the Navajo Reservation and historical trauma among Native Americans. Among other activities, Davona has helped develop a social practice art exhibition titled, “Hope + Trauma in a Poisoned Land” and was a featured speaker at the National History Institute’s annual conference on Reciprocal Healing in Sedona. Davona is bright, strong, courageous. and knowledgeable. Today THE Island Boyz (aka Cody and Dan) are going #beyondFLG with Laurel Morales. Laurel is the founder and host of the 2Lives Podcast. Prior to starting 2Lives, Laurel was a Senior Field Correspondent for KJZZ, Fronteras, and a Freelance Journalist for NPR. Laurel has lived in FLG for about 20 years and she can be found on the infamous Lost Burrito Trail on the Dry Lake Hills, doing yoga, or having Sushi with her daughters at Karma Sushi Bar when she is not in her closet recording and producing new episodes of 2Lives. In this episode, Laurel discusses her experience as a journalist, secondhand exposure to trauma and what led to starting the 2Lives podcast. Episode 006: Vince Sherry (Run Flagstaff)

Fred and George Weasley (aka Dr. Bayles and Dr. Phillips) go #beyondFLG with Vince Sherry (aka St. Vincent de Sherry), owner and operator of Team Run Flagstaff. Vince helped to organize the virtual “Run with Rivs” challenge as a means to support Tommy “Rivers” Puzey and his family. Check out his description of how that challenge came about and what he would hope for in the future. Vince also highlights his rise to ownership of Run Flagstaff, addresses its influence on run culture in Flagstaff, and outlines where it is headed in the future. Of note, Vince’s alternative course in life was to become a middle school science teacher. Vince is an overall generous guy carving his own niche into the run culture of Northern Arizona. He mentions interactions and relationships with the likes of Nat White, NATRA Neil, Erin Strout, Gayle Hughes, Mike Smith, the Coconino Cowboys, and, one of his childhood heroes, Bob Kennedy. Episode 014: Jason Costello (Canyon Coolers)

Join Pete Twinkle and Greg Stink (aka Cody and Dan) as they go #beyondFLG with Jason Costello, the founder and CEO of Canyon Coolers (@canyoncoolers). Jason, like many other well-intentioned folks, found himself in Flagstaff, AZ in the early 1990’s when starting college at the Harvard of the West (NAU). Following his degree, he worked in a variety of settings and somehow, someway, found himself in the domain of slinging coolers. In 2010, he founded Canyon Coolers and a few years later, he went all in with the business. Since then, Canyon Coolers has won a variety of awards and remains as one of the top products when compared to its competitors for ice retention. Canyon Coolers offers a lifetime, hassle-free warranty and identify their value of relationships as the reason for this warranty. Stay tuned to learn whether it is or is not also a conflict avoidance strategy.
