A stroll with Jane Austen

Journalist Jill Sainsbury meets the people behind the trails who set about to ensure that Overton is remembered in the Jane Austen story. Born just 2.5 miles away in Steventon, Jane Austen regularly came to the village to do her shopping, send letters and visit friends and family. Now the present day residents have created three fantastic trails to showcase the village and surrounding countryside they love which Jane Austen knew so well. Enjoy the sounds and stories of village life back in Jane Austen’s time and today. “A stroll with Jane” is a Switched-on Multimedia Production. The Overton Jane Austen Trails project was funded through Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Pride in Place, which is backed by the UK government’s Shared Prosperity Fund. Credible content and believable boards with Jasmine Sainsbury

Jasmine Sainsbury started a YouTube channel aged 16 to help her revise for her GCSE history exam. Seven years later, it’s amassed nearly 40,000 subscribers and is being used by history teachers far and wide to help their students get through their exams. What started as a hobby led to a first class history degree at the University of Sheffield and now a masters in ‘public history’ at a university in Germany. It turns out by creating the YouTube channel, A Long Long Time Ago with cute cartoon animations, she’s been doing ‘public history’ for years! #3: No need to fear the red pen!

You finally put pen to paper to write the book you’ve always wanted but the editor then attacks it with a red pen. Rather than feel despondent first time author and experienced human resources consultant Jill Aburrow could soon see that those small edits made it even better.
