PMD #3: NPR wins some Gracies, HPR gets its spring drive goal and a Tribute to Carl Kasell.

Highlights for Tuesday, April 17th include... 1) NPR wins three Gracie awards for coverage of the #MeToo movement. 2) 102.3 KHNS in Haines, Alaska has become the first station to add "The Daily" from NYT and APM since the program's public radio debut. 3) Hawaii Public Radio unexpectedly expanded their Spring Fund Drive by a day. It reached its goal and then some. 4) Technical problems involving one TV/FM combo from NET Nebraska and an HPR-2 translator in Kailua-Kona. 5) A tribute to Carl Kasell, the longtime "Morning Edition" newscaster and "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me!" scorekeeper, who passed away at the age of 84 after a battle with Alzheimer's disease. PMD #31: WDET now reads part of the U.S. Constitution.

It's the 4th of July edition of Public Media Daily, Episode #31. Not much happened during the holiday but some highlights from Wednesday, the 4th of July, 2018 include... 1) 101.9 WDET Detroit is trying to start an NPR-inspired tradition by reading the Preamble and the Bill of Rights of the United States Constitution. 2) 90.5 KUT Austin listeners get to decide which program will take over the Saturday 2:00 p.m. timeslot to replace Marketplace Weekend, which has ended production. 3) WBAA West Lafayette's AM 920 translator on the FM dial (105.9 W290CM) has been having some problems since Tuesday. PMD #16: Two KJZZ executives are suspended, WABE's Denis O'Hayer is retiring, WLVT will soon air a new newscast and Tanzina Vega's debut on The Takeaway.

Highlights from the weekend of Friday-Sunday, May 4th-6th include... 1) Two 91.5 KJZZ Phoenix executives are suspended on paid leave due to "anonymous allegations" against them. 2) KBDI 12 Broomfield - Denver (CPT12: Colorado Public Television) is upgrading its studios to HD. 3) 90.1 WABE Atlanta's Denis O'Hayer is retiring after nine years at WABE and 42 years in Atlanta broadcasting. 4) WLVT 39 Allentown - Bethlehem, Penn. is hiring journalists for its new nightly newscast, "Reporter Corps." 5) WKAR continued its transmitter work for the upcoming F.C.C. Spectrum Repack. 6) Alabama Public Radio (APR) was the recipient of the national Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for radio in honor of their multi-part series "Help Wanted: Alabama's Rural Health Care Crisis." 7) Technical problems include KLRU 18 Austin and its subs going off-air for a while on Friday and 88.9 KLDN Lufkin - Nacogdoches (RRR: Red River Radio) currently broadcasting on low-power. 8) Later today, Tanzina Vega's debut as permanent host on The Takeaway from PRI and WNYC. PMD #6: Tamara Keith gives birth, more awards, a new health channel and Tiny Desk concerts turn 10.

Highlights from Friday-Sunday, April 20th-22nd include... 1) NPR's Tamara Keith has given birth to a baby boy. She also did her NPR Politics podcast a day before giving birth. 2) 89.5 KWGS Tulsa, 90.5 KUT Austin and 90.1 KERA Dallas - Fort Worth all won awards over the weekend. 3) South Florida PBS launches a new 24-hour health channel called obviously, "The Health Channel." 4) Ozarks Public Television (OPTV) is back on DirecTV, U-verse and Mediacom customers after a tower fall that killed a worker and injured several others last week. 5) Alejandra Martinez has left KUT Austin to join WLRN Miami. 6) Boise State Public Radio will have its own daily show, "Idaho Matters," starting later today. Programming changes have been made as a result too. 7) Technical problems include: KMBH has been off-the-air for two months, KXJZ and its online stream was briefly off Saturday morning, WCNY-TV wasn't working most of the weekend and Colorado Public Radio had maintenance Saturday night. 8) NPR's Its Been A Minute is visiting Chicago for a live show. 9) WFAE's Charlotte Talks turned 20 last Friday and Robert Costa has now hosted Washington Week for a year. 10) NPR's Tiny Desk concerts turned 10 over the weekend and as a treat, we play one of Laura Gibson's songs from the first-ever concert back in 2008.
