    A Scent of New-Mown Hay • Sci-fi War Horror

    This book was a pick that I noticed while shopping at Re-Read Used Books here in Ottawa. I'd never heard of the title before. I'm always trying to find titles or authors that are from that particular era before I started reading in the '80s that aren't the classics and usual suspects that came in or after the sci-fi and adventure boom. Upon reading it I was stoked to see it was like a "keep calm" zero-day version of The Last Of Us set in the 50s.     The Caretaker • Follow the Rites, or the Rabbit?

    I loved We Used To Live Here and the summary for The Caretaker certainly grabbed me. Marcus Kliewer’s work is a ‌refreshing blend of old-fashioned horror ghost stories and super-modern paranormal twists. Coupled with ‌striking covers and the fact that the author is Canadian, I'd have a hard time turning this down. This book was provided as an e-arc by Simon & Schuster (thank you!), and I was slow at getting to the long-form review - all in all, I was very excited to see all the hype surrounding this book. That said, I am pretty excited for 10 years down the road when we have five more of his books and can play the old house megaverse game. This is the story of Macy Mullins, ‌a young adult who was shoved into adulthood at too young ‌an age, and I ‌do like and connect with characters like that. Especially those secluded in creepy houses, surrounded by cliff-side forest.     Does Booktube displace critical review of books? • Booktuber Role tag

    This conversation caught my eye over at Cliff's Dark Gems, and I really liked the questions posed. It was summed up in my mind as the question, "Whyfor, Booktubers?" and not just booktube, but why we as humans step forward and do this. Are we displacing journalists and dedicated book reviewers? Has the 'book review' died? And did BookTok kill it? That last question is not truly addressed here, to be quite honest, as that is simplifying the matter far too much. Maybe that is something I would like to discuss though...
