Sheik Mufty Yassin – Test and Sacrifices of Past Generations

From Jamaatu Noor Mosque – (Antwerp, Belgium) This khutbah reflects on the profound sacrifices of the early generations of Muslims—the Muhajirun who left behind their homes, their wealth, and their families for the sake of their faith. The imam reminds us that they did not migrate for worldly gain, but solely seeking the pleasure of Allah and His Messenger -5-12. He highlights the story of Mus'ab ibn Umayr—a young man who had everything: wealth, status, beauty, and the finest clothes. He was known as the most handsome young man in Mecca, wearing custom-made garments and shoes from Yemen as a sign of his affluence -1-17. Yet when the light of Islam entered his heart, he gave it all up. He was appointed the first ambassador of Islam, sent to Medina to prepare the city for the coming migration -9. At the Battle of Uhud, he carried the banner of Islam. When his right hand was severed, he took the flag in his left. When his left hand was severed, he held it with his arms until he was martyred—never letting the flag fall -17. The imam connects these stories to our own lives, asking: What are we sacrificing for our deen? Are we willing to give up comfort, status, or convenience for the sake of Allah? Sheik Mufty Yassin – Advice of Imam Al-Shafi'i (Part 2)

The imam shares some of these profound advices, including the famous saying: "I complained to my teacher about my inability to memorize, so he advised me to leave off bad deeds. He informed me that knowledge is light, and that the light of Allah is not granted to one who engages in bad deeds" . This serves as a powerful reminder that spiritual knowledge and remembrance are inextricably linked to one's actions and intentions. The khutbah also draws on Imam Al-Shafi'i's counsel on guarding the tongue and sincerity: "Whoever would love for Allah to open their heart, or to illuminate their gaze, should leave excessive talking regarding things that don't concern them, keep away from sins, and have between them and Allah some carefully hidden good deeds" .
