  11. Jimmy Butler

    02/19/2019

    Jimmy Butler

Quentin and Darius serve up good vibes with none other than special guest Jimmy Butler. The 76ers’ shooting guard gets personal and goes in on everything from the first person in the NBA to “bust his ass,” to the fact that he didn't even know where Milwaukee was when he chose to attend Marquette for college. The eight-year vet gives a how-to lesson on playing defense successfully in today’s league and the three discuss Jimmy’s rookie season with the Bulls in 2011–12, and how being on a team with so many veterans taught him the importance of speaking your mind and being blunt. Jimmy also discusses his past — his struggles as a kid in Texas and his meteoric rise to NBA stardom from junior college, to coming off the bench at Marquette, to being a first-round draft pick. Q and Darius ask Jimmy about his first big spending spree, which came right after he won a gold medal at the 2016 Olympics. That story leads directly into to another lesser known tale about the time Jimmy went to Fashion Week in Paris with D-Wade and Melo and found out he was being traded from Chicago to Minnesota. Lastly, Jimmy divulges which NBA player he modeled his game after, where his nickname, “Jimmy Buckets,” comes from and why Justin Beiber's latest album is in his top 5. 12. Chris Webber

    02/17/2021

    Chris Webber

C Webb is in the building! He’s the man who’s always been at the center of the culture – from his star-studded AAU team to the legendary Fab Five years to his 15-year run in the league. The Midwest legend begins by breaking down his insanely stacked AAU teams and explaining the wild Midwest basketball culture he thrived in while growing up. Then it’s all about Michigan and the Fab Five. The boys who defined college basketball at the time. He gets into the baggy shorts and the buzz cuts, what that ride to fame as a group of college friends was like, and how painful it was experiencing losses in back-to-back championship games. Then he chats post-college, how his mother creatively helped him get over The Timeout, and how the draft process saw him through some hard times. From there, the guys take turns imagining what a C Webb-Shaq duo would’ve done to the basketball world, and Chris gives the backstory of why Shaq pushed for Penny Hardaway. It all worked out, as C Webb linked up with part of Run TMC in Golden State and snatched Rookie of the Year. He goes on to explain his Godfather-like contract, which allowed him to be a free agent after his first season, and what sent him to the East to reunite with Juwan Howard in D.C. The guys then get into C Webb’s finding out that he’d been traded to Sacramento ... while in a grocery store, and why he was so adamant about not wanting to play there. Things changed fast, though, as teammates made him love it there and his arrival led to the Kings’ most successful stretch. C Webb then touches on the final years of his career, what it was like to play with AI in Philly, and what he’s been doing since he retired, including growing his collection of African-American artifacts and teaching a master’s class at Wake Forest. We see you, Professor! C Webb has truly done it ALL. From the game of basketball to the game of life, Chris Webber is a hands-down inspiration. Tune IN! 13. Shawn Marion

    04/28/2020

    Shawn Marion

The Matrix, aka Shawn Marion, joins the fellas on this week’s episode of Knuckleheads with Quentin Richardson and Darius Miles! One of the most underrated NBA players of all time looks back on his unlikely ascension from barely recruited high schooler to standout JUCO player to one-season star at UNLV. Q remembers the first time he met Shawn, at a Jordan camp where The Matrix was shocking everybody by putting on a show amid the nation’s elite. Then Shawn talks about getting to the NBA, where he was the only rookie on the Suns in 1999 — and why that situation really helped him in the long run. He reveals what it was like to play with Jason Kidd and how that experience gave him so much confidence. Then it’s time for a little reminiscence about the 2004 Suns, when Q came aboard, and just why that team was so damn good. Shawn lays out the crucial importance of his shift to the four spot and then takes time to point out just how impressive it was that, at 6'7", he could hold his own against the toughest position in the Western Conference. Speaking of impressive, do you know who the first player in NBA history to have 15,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, 1,000 blocks and 500 threes was? Yup, The Matrix. Shawn then talks about moving around the league a bit and how hungry he was to win a championship. Shawn bounced from Phoenix to Miami (actually learning he’d been traded in the middle of his own Super Bowl party) and made a pit stop in Toronto before finally landing in Dallas. In 2009 that Mavericks team was special and they knew it. Shawn even remembers Jason Terry getting a championship trophy tattoo at the start of the season. That Dallas team would go on to beat the Heat in an epic run, propelled by a playing-out-of-his-mind Dirk Nowitzki. Shawn reveals that he and Dirk would play one-on-one every day after practice to get Dirk ready to face off against smaller guys. Shawn Marion had one hell of a career and you best not forget it — Trix is a must listen! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
