Listen Once More: Julia Gets Wise with Gloria Steinem

We are saddened by the news of Gloria Steinem’s passing at the age of 92. Gloria was a force and the defining leader of the women’s movement. Steinem’s commitment knew no bounds, as she spent her life fighting for women's equality, autonomy and a seat at every table. She shifted the world as we know it and taught every one of us the value of our voice. We’re sharing her conversation with Julia from 2024 as we mourn her loss and honor a lifetime spent lighting torches for the rest of us to carry. In this episode of Wiser Than Me, Julia sits down with 92-year-old author and revolutionary Gloria Steinem. The two delve into Gloria's remarkable journey as a pioneering feminist and discuss joining the army of gray-haired women who will take over the world. Gloria also gives Julia THE most incredible advice for aging without shame. Plus, Julia’s mom, Judy, recounts her early ambitions in acting and her initial reservations about working outside the home. 2. The Julia Louis-Dreyfus Episode

    The Julia Louis-Dreyfus Episode

You might know Julia Louis-Dreyfus from Seinfeld. You might know her from Veep. You might know her just by knowing her. To be fully honest with you, we were all a little nervous today because of how important this woman is to our lives. For Benny, watching Seinfeld was a religious experience every week. He used to have a dog named Larry David. Kristin used to watch Elaine every day for confidence. Dave is actually from the Seinfeld coaching tree of comedy. So really, even this show you're watching right now would not be what it is without Seinfeld existing. And one of the biggest inspirations for us was trying to capture that feeling of a group of friends just hanging out. Well, today Julia comes over and does exactly that with the three of us, and what can you say about that except it's an honor. We were all very starstruck but we think we mostly held it together. We love Julia! Boy are we thankful she came. Thanks for watching us hang out with one of our comedy idols. We respect you! May 27

Julia Gets Wise with Joan Baez

Julia is joined by 85-year-old folk legend and lifelong activist Joan Baez, who is still dancing, still showing up, and still refusing to be quiet. They talk about singing before a quarter million people at the March on Washington in 1963, what made Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. laugh, and what real courage feels like from the inside. Joan opens up about her decades-long struggle with anxiety, forgiveness, and dissociative identity disorder. Oh, and she sings. Three times. Afterwards, Julia calls her 92-year-old mom Judy — who, it turns out, was playing folk music on a portable Victrola in Sri Lanka when Julia was young. 6. Julia Louis-Dreyfus On Broadway, Annie Leibovitz, and Why Chloe Should Go To Therapy With Her Mother

    Sep 8

Julia Louis-Dreyfus On Broadway, Annie Leibovitz, and Why Chloe Should Go To Therapy With Her Mother

Late last year, Annie Leibovitz went on Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ podcast Wiser Than Me. The premise of the show is that Louis-Dreyfus speaks to women who are older than her about their life experiences and wisdom gained along the way. Early on in their conversation, the longtime Vogue photographer floated the idea of photographing Julia, “It’s strange to me,” Leibovitz told her, “I haven’t photographed you.” At that moment, they set out to amend things. A little less than a year later, Leibovitz’s images of Louis-Dreyfus graced the pages of Chloe’s first September issue.“That was a life dream for me to work with her,” Louis-Dreyfus said to Chloe on today’s episode of The Run-Through, “It’s scary to have your picture taken, but I didn't have that anxiety [with her]. I felt confident in her.”  She has had a storied career and has decided it isn’t too late to try something new—this fall she is making her Broadway debut in Other Desert Cities, the 2011 play by Jon Robin Baitz about a well-to-do conservative family that gets together in Palm Springs for Christmas Eve. Louis-Dreyfus will play Polly, the matriarch of the family, who she says she has developed based on many “Pollys” she grew up around. As for her maintenance routine, she plans to do a combination of interval training, walking and running, pilates, and drinking electrolytes. In addition to her upcoming Broadway debut, she and Chloe spoke about the loss of her family’s home of 32 years in the Palisades fire. “That is definitely, short of losing people that I love in my life, the great loss,” she remarked, “That was a shocking experience. I still can't believe it happened.” Chloe’s mother also lost her Los Angeles home in the fire and they commented on the rose bushes that, against all odds, survived this massive destruction. “The little things that remain are so much more treasurable now,” Louis-Dreyfus said.   At the end of every episode of Wiser Than Me, Louis-Dreyfus debriefs the contents of the episode with her mother, Judith Bowles. She has revealed on the podcast that she and mother have gone to therapy together. Chloe asked her if she too should try therapy with her own mother. “I'm all for it, “ Louis-Dreyfus encouraged, “I think you should definitely do it. I would advise you to do it while you have the chance.” The Run-Through with Vogue is your go-to podcast where fashion meets culture. Hosted by Chloe Malle, Head of Editorial Content, Vogue U.S.; Chioma Nnadi, Head of British Vogue; and Nicole Phelps, Director of Vogue Runway, each episode features the latest fashion news and exclusive designer and celebrity interviews.
