Boy George: Meet The Real George O'Dowd (E307)

Boy George is the iconic frontman of Culture Club, celebrated for much more than his flashy style and soulful voice. Known for breaking boundaries in music and fashion, he became a symbol of self-expression in the '80s and is still going strong. Behind his unique look and bold personality is George O’Dowd, a man with stories of resilience, creativity, and self-discovery. In this episode, George sits down with Jake and Damian to reveal the real person behind the fame. He shares memories of his early days and how challenging family dynamics, especially with his father, shaped who he is today. George also talks openly about his battles, from traumatic childhood experiences to struggles with addiction, and how each has led to valuable lessons in his life. He dives deep into his philosophy of mind, thought, and consciousness, the core principles he credits with keeping him grounded and thriving. He also explains how he’s learned to handle public criticism, stay true to himself, and navigate life’s chaos. From joining his first band to forming Culture Club, George reflects on the magic of his musical journey and what made Culture Club so successful in a time of fast-changing culture. With an honest look at the ups and downs, George offers insights on resilience, the importance of personal growth, and learning from both triumphs and mistakes. Boy George, Rob Brydon, Maisie Adam & Ian Wright’s Euros Update #449

Hey friend, how ya doin’? The sun is shining, the pub gardens are booming and your favourite podcast is back. What could be better?! Welcome to Episode 449 of The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Podcast. This week, Pippa returned from Cuba, bringing some smokin’ hot gifts for Chris and the guys. Also, we had a smashing lineup of guests. Firstly, Chris’ favourite judge, Rob Rinder, paid a visit to the studios, so expect the usual level of loveable bickering. From one Rob to another, actor, comedian, TV host and small-man-in-a-box impersonator, Rob Brydon dropped by to tell the team all about the new Tudor-Fantasy series, ‘My Lady Jane’, which is coming soon to Amazon Prime Video. Then, comedian and football fanatic, Maisie Adam, came in to talk Leeds United, Glastonbury and her upcoming UK tour, ‘Appraisal’. Last but not least, the LEGEND that is Boy George brought glamour, giggles and gig news into the studio.  Also, with the Euro’s kicking off this week, some may be a little down in the dumps with England’s recent performance. BUT FEAR NOT! Ian Wright is here to spread words of wisdom, dialling into the studio from the host nation itself.  Sounds good, right? THERE’S MORE! The list of Glastonbury Flagbearers was finalised, Dom has an update on his embarrassing, shambolic and potentially illegal sweepstake, and also…. Dom’s Chili Chocolate Prank, Robbie Williams & Pippa’s Sausage Necklace! #262

Well, well, well. This week on The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X we pulled over an absolute corker of a prank. Dominic Byrne became the latest target to fall victim to the ‘Instant Regret’ Chili Chocolate...and our plan worked like a dream. Poor Dom was hoodwinked into thinking we’d been sent in some Christmas flavoured chocolates but as you’ll hear, they were far from it! We were also joined by a fantastic range of guests too - starting the week with Stereophonics’ Kelly Jones who told us all about the new documentary ‘Don’t Let The Devil Take Another Day’ and the time he went on Dom’s shoulders at a gig. Next up was Tom from Blossoms who came on FaceTime to tell us all about their new Christmas single - nice and festive! Boy George dropped by on Thursday to chat to us about an ACTUAL live gig that he's doing with Culture Club this month. Finally, the legend that is Robbie Williams joined us to talk about his Christmas album and how he’s been getting into the festive spirit with his family. It was Pippa’s birthday on Monday (happy birthday Pippa!) so the team got her an extra special birthday message from someone and her very own sausage necklace. You’re welcome, Pip. Plus, Matt Parkes-Smith decided to take on the Instant Regret chili chocolate to show Dom how it’s done - all on this week’s podcast! And if that wasn’t enough, here’s more… Tony Blackburn’s Heron-Watch Chris Tarrant’s Party Trick Matt’s Trip for the Gravy Burger Enjoy! The Chris Moyles Show on Radio X Weekdays 6:30-10am
