    0002 - The Return of the Moresbys (1 7 1974)

"The Return of the Moresbys" is the second episode of the CBS Radio Mystery Theater, originally aired on January 7, 1974, just one day after the series premiere. Hosted by E.G. Marshall, this episode continues the show's tradition of delivering suspenseful, well-acted radio drama, complete with the signature creaking door introduction. The story revolves around a man who, grieving the death of his wife, decides to have her stuffed and preserved by a taxidermist so he can keep her with him forever. However, the plot takes a dark and unexpected turn when she seemingly returns to life—or does she? This episode blends elements of horror, psychological tension, and the macabre, exploring themes of obsession, loss, and the boundaries between life and death. Unlike the grounded crime drama of the premiere, this one leans into a more eerie and unsettling atmosphere, hinting at supernatural possibilities without fully committing to them. The cast includes notable radio and theater actors, with Ralph Bell playing the bereaved husband and Marian Seldes as his wife, delivering performances that amplify the story’s creepy tone. John and Hester Morgan, a retired mining engineer and his wife, move to a historic house in Eastport Harbor, Maine, seeking a new life. The local real estate agent, Mr. Higgins, reveals the house's peculiar history of multiple ghosts, which he believes are brought by the inhabitants themselves. As they settle in, John becomes increasingly distant and secretive, working on a book about mining while displaying unusual behavior. A mysterious lawsuit involving the sale of John's Lucky Penny mine emerges, involving a man named Elliot Harmon who allegedly shot himself after feeling cheated. Tensions rise between John and Hester as he becomes more aggressive and defensive, refusing to discuss the details of the lawsuit or his past. Strange occurrences begin to plague the household, including unexplained visitor sightings and John's increasingly erratic behavior. The story culminates in John's disappearance, which coincides with Elliot Harmon's death. Upon investigation, both John and Harmon's bodies are discovered in an experimental shaft at the Lucky Penny mine, with Harmon wearing a distinctive black cap. The supernatural undertones suggest a form of spectral revenge, where Harmon's ghost seemingly pursued John until both of their deaths, fulfilling a karmic justice for perceived wrongs in their business dealings. 00:00 - The house of ghosts  06:58 - A frightening phone call  12:07 - John's strange behavior  22:09 - Disappearance and confusion  32:09 - Mystery at the cemetery  Listen to our radio station Old Time Radio https://link.radioking.com/otradio Listen to other Shows at My Classic Radio https://www.myclassicradio.net/ Entertainment Radio | Broadcasting Classic Radio Shows | Patreon Remember that times have changed, and some shows might not reflect the standards of today’s politically correct society.
