Christian Horner: How reflection wins races (E58)

Christian Horner is the Team Principal of the Red Bull Formula One racing team. Christian’s path to Formula One management ladder began behind the wheel, as a talented young racer, before at the age of 25 he founded the Arden International Race Team. Three consecutive International Formula 3000 Team championships brought the young Team owner to the attention of Red Bull and when the company decided to field its own F1 entry in 2005, it turned to Christian to run the operation. In 2010, Christian led Red Bull Racing to its first brace of titles and further double World Championships followed in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Entering his 17th season at the helm of Red Bull, Christian is still one of the youngest Team Principals but he is also its most experienced.  - - - - - - - -  Visit the Bulldog Skincare website to see their entire range at www.bulldogskincare.com. Christian Horner: putting Red Bull back on top

It’s been a dramatic year for Red Bull Racing, from the titanic battle Max Verstappen fought with Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes for the 2021 title, to setting up their own power unit arm, before taking a commanding lead in both championships this season – with a flirtation with Porsche thrown in for good measure. Team boss Christian Horner tells host Tom Clarkson all about that incredible 2021 title fight from Red Bull’s perspective, including his thoughts on rival team boss Toto Wolff, and that intense Abu Dhabi season finale. He also reflects on whether Verstappen approaches racing Charles Leclerc differently to how he takes on Hamilton, what he makes of Daniel Ricciardo’s early McLaren exit, and why Red Bull decided now was the right time to set up their own engine division. Plus he reveals what happened to the proposed Porsche partnership, touches on some of the company’s non-F1 projects – including designing a submarine – as well as how it feels to have led the team back to the brink of championship glory once again.Related episodes: Christian Horner in 2021 and 2018Sergio Perez This episode is sponsored by: Babbel: go to babbel.com/play and use promo code GRID for an extra six months freeLinkedIn Jobs: post your job for free at linkedin.com/GRIDDoorDash: for a limited time, our listeners can get 50% off and zero delivery fees on their first order of $15 or more, when you download the DoorDash app and enter code GRID

Superior Verstappen seals statement victory – Miami GP review

From P9 to P1, Max Verstappen produced a masterclass in Miami as he fought through the field to take his third victory of the season and move 14 points clear of teammate Sergio Perez at the top of the Drivers’ World Championship. Tom Clarkson is joined by former McLaren driver Pedro de la Rosa and De Telegraaf journalist Erik van Haren to dissect the race. Erik shares insight into Max’s frame of mind coming into the weekend after his frustrations in Baku and the influence Max’s father, Jos Verstappen, has on his racing. Red Bull team principal Christian Horner explains why strategy was the key difference in the battle between his drivers, after they secured their fourth 1-2 of the year. A satisfied George Russell drops by to share his thoughts on an impressive P4 and what to expect from Mercedes’ planned upgrades for the next race at Imola. Lando Norris gives a very honest assessment of McLaren’s lack of performance as they leave the States without any points for the third time this season. Alpine duo Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon both finished in the top 10 for the first time in three Grands Prix and team principal Otmar Szafnauer tells Tom that the upgrades they brought to Azerbaijan are paying off.
