  1. Mumford & Sons, Vicky McClure and Russell Tovey #518

    OCT 24

Mumford & Sons, Vicky McClure and Russell Tovey #518

What’s the weirdest situation you’ve listened to Radio X in? Chris was off this week so Toby stepped into the breakfast shoes and had just about the silliest show you can imagine. We were also blessed with some awesome guests this week, gave away lots of tickets to upcoming gigs and became privy to Toby’s terrifyingly accurate clairvoyance skills.  The first guest we had this week was the incredibly talented Vicky McClure. She came into the studio to chat about the new season of Trigger Point. She spoke to Toby and the team about the unique experience of working with real-world bomb diffusers on set as they aim to make the show as close to reality as possible. What she didn’t expect coming into the studio this week however, was to be playing a game that involved delivering electric shocks to producer John. Next, Russell Tovey popped into the studio to talk about his new book: Art School (in a book): A future artist's guide to contemporary Art. He spoke about the inaccessibility of the art world for an outsider and how intimidating it can be. He also said that art is for everyone and that his new book is a way of helping young people bridge this gap. Oh and he also chatted about silly things too like how insane it was voicing Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents. Finally we had the legendary Mumford & Sons in the studio chatting to Toby about a host of topics, ranging from their latest single featuring Hozier, to being onstage with Springsteen. They also spoke about other artists they dream of collaborating with, such as Stevie Nicks and Adele. That’s all for this week, but we have these to offer you before we go: Planning a heistThe ceremony at Hayes Bowls ClubCouples on their wedding night Enjoy! Vicky McClure, If, Two Tickets to Greece & Hoard

This week, Vicky McClure chats to Simon about her new limited series ‘Insomnia’, which sees a mother approaching her fortieth birthday forced to grapple with her traumatic past after she develops insomnia.   Mark gives his thoughts on various new releases, including ‘Two Tickets to Greece’, a French comedy-drama starring Laure Calamy (of ‘Call My Agent’ fame) which follows two childhood friends who cross paths after many years and finally decide to take their dream vacation to Greece; and ‘Hoard’, a social realist psychodrama, which sees a teenager living in a foster home encouraged by a previous resident to revisit her childhood memories of her mother who used to be a hoarder.   The big review of the week is 'If’, John Krasinski’s latest, which sees a 12-year-old girl, who can see everyone’s imaginary friends, embark on a magical journey to reconnect the forgotten so-called IFs with the now-adult kids who dreamt them up.  Timecodes (relevant only for the Vanguard - who are also ad-free!):  07:00 – Two Tickets For Greece Review  11:49 – Box Office Top Ten  21:40 – Vicky McClure Interview  35:36 – Hoard Review  42:40 – IF Review    You can contact the show by emailing correspondence@kermodeandmayo.com or you can find us on social media, @KermodeandMayo   EXCLUSIVE NordVPN Deal ➼ https://nordvpn.com/take Try it risk-free now with a 30-day money-back guarantee!  A Sony Music Entertainment production.     Find more great podcasts from Sony Music Entertainment at sonymusic.com/podcasts and follow us @sonypodcasts    To advertise on this show contact: podcastadsales@sonymusic.com  Learn more about your ad choices. 3. Weekend Woman's Hour: Jodie Comer, Vicky McClure, Jameela Jamil

    01/20/2024

Weekend Woman's Hour: Jodie Comer, Vicky McClure, Jameela Jamil

The Killing Eve star Jodie Comer joins us to discuss her latest film, The End We Start From. The protagonist is a new mum, who has to navigate a flooded Britain with her baby. Jodie also reflects on the powerful response to her play Prima Facie, and the impact of fame on her life. According to a new report by the charity Brainkind, up to one in two survivors of domestic abuse in the UK may be living with an undiagnosed brain injury. We speak to Steffy Bechelet from Brainkind and Dr Annemarie Burns, a consultant clinical neuro-psychologist. Vicky McClure joins us to discuss her new role as explosives expert Lana Washington in a new series of Trigger Point. How often do you feel weary and depleted? The burnout coach and historian Anna Schaffner discusses her book, Exhausted: An A-Z for the Weary. They were known as Israel’s “eyes on the border.” These were female Israeli border soldiers - who raised concerns about suspicious Hamas activity on the Gaza border in the run up to the October 7 attack - but those concerns went unheard by higher ranking officers. Hamas killed at least 1,200 people in that attack and took about 240 hostages, around 130 of whom are still being held. Since then, nearly 25,000 civilians have been killed in the Israeli bombardment that followed, according to the Hamas-run health ministry. We speak to the BBC’s Alice Cuddy and the author Mary Ann Sieghart. The actor and activist Jameela Jamil has made headlines over the years for her provocative, sometimes sweary social media posts, often calling out celebrity culture for promoting unrealistic ideals. She reflects on cancel culture and her resolution to post online with more 'grace and empathy'. Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Lucy Wai Editor: Erin Riley
