ग्वालियर रियासत के सिंधिया: राजनीति, अकाल और अशिक्षा (Scindias of Princely State of Gwalior: Politics, Famine and Illiteracy) with Shashank Singh

In this episode, we discuss Shashank Singh's PhD research, done at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, on the Princely State of Gwalior between 1860-1975. This a three-part episode. In this first part, Shashank talks about how the Scindia's hid famine and illiteracy behind the veil of 'progress' in Gwalior. In Part II, we discuss how the Scindias played a balancing act by aligning with the British, the Hindu Mahasabha and the Indian National Congress, at different time to continue their hold on power. In Part III, we will discuss the tripartite struggle over jurisdiction between the Scindias, the British and the Rajputs of Malwa.
